• Establishment of Community Institution in the form of CO/VO/LSO.

• Capacity building of Community Institution in Management and Leadership skills through CMST/LMST

• Exposing the Community to the area where already such practices are successfully run by the community itself as: Seeing is believing

• Need identification and prioritize it

• Community put forward demand in the form of resolution with the approval of 2/3 majority.

• SRSP staff visit the area and conduct feasibility.

• If the site is feasible, detail cost estimate is prepared and forwarded for the approval.

Community Mobilization & MHP (Before MHP)

• After Approval, third dialogue held to formally initiate the MHP and the committee’s formed namely; Project Committee, Audit Committee and O&M Committee by the community itself.

• A joint account opened with signatories ; President, General Secretary of the CI and the DPM of the Project.

• Community contributed in the form of provision of land (free of cost), carriage of equipment, erecting poles and transmission lines.

• Community also provide a place as ware house for the material.

• During implementation, the Project Committee took responsibility of quality work and supervision.

• Project staff also visit the site to ensure the quality and the work as per design.

• After successfully testing the MHP, the community provide an operator for O&M purpose.

• Capacity building of the operator through technical training.

• Proper handing/taking over of the MHP with the community.

• Rs. 2000/connection was collected from the community and deposited in the joint account with the purpose to use it for Operational & Maintenance and sustainability of the project.

• Collection of monthly bills and deposit in the joint account by the operator.

• Maintaining the complete record of the MHP, financial as well as physical.

• For maintenance purpose, the community put forward the request in the form of resolution which will verify by the project staff, estimate prepared and then the amount released for repair or maintenance.

Benefits• Proper training of Operators and management committees

• Reduction in using the biogas (dung, wood, kerosene oil)

• Less pressure on forest.

• Time saved to use it for other productive activities especially for women

• Children have enough time to study.

• Kalam MHP is running as social enterprise benefitting 637 domestic consumers as well as 43 commercial consumers like hotels, schools, telephone exchange and health providers.
