› Outline

Once you have completed the Certificate in Company Direction courses and examination, the Diploma in

Company Direction is the next step.

It provides an opportunity to put into practice the knowledge gained from the Certificate in a realistic and

safe environment. It encourages peer group support, challenge and stimulation, mirroring in many ways the

operation of a board.

The Diploma in Company Direction builds on the Certificate to cover additional functional areas:

Understanding marketing and human resource strategy and how they interact with the corporate strategy

Structuring the organisation for future success based on the business objectives

› Developing Board Performance This is a compulsory programme which you must attend prior to sitting the examination. This three day

interactive course requires delegates to act as board members, central to the activities and running of the

organisation. You will challenge and utilise skills gained from your experience as a director in an applied and

dynamic way, as a board facing a variety of challenges and crises.

› Who should attend? The course is aimed at directors and individuals who have completed the IoD’s Certificate in Company

Direction (Chartered Director Stage 1) and wish to gain the Diploma in Company Direction.

› What to expect Replicates the issues experienced by a ‘real’ organisation – diagnosing and overcoming the challenges

regularly faced by the board

An opportunity to receive feedback on your own impact and performance as the board reviews and

appraises its own impact and effectiveness

Delegates will be required to apply their knowledge in constantly changing situations that evolve during the

course.

Diploma in Company Direction: Developing Board Performance 15 - 17 May 2017

› Course objectives Participation on this course will enable you to:

Understand your board’s role; its dynamic, power, influence and conflicts

Gain knowledge of important topics including: risk and crisis management;

decision-making; mergers and acquisitions; and board performance

Understand relevant techniques and tools to improve personal skills and

that of the board

Evaluate and improve the performance of your board, its committees and

individual directors.

When you have passed the examination you will be awarded the Diploma in

Company Direction. Successful completion of the Diploma examination is also

one of the criteria in achieving Chartered Director status, the professional

qualification which recognises the professionalism and experience of

directors.

As a guide, pre-work for this course should take 60-90 minutes. For the

benefit of all delegates, please ensure the pre-work is completed prior to

attending the programme.

HOW TO BOOK For the Company Direction Programme please complete and return the appropriate booking form to the GTA University Centre. It is important that you complete all appropriate sections of the booking form. Non-members of the IoD are welcome on all courses.

FEES

The Company Direction fees are inclusive of course materials plus light refreshments and buffet lunch. The IoD member fee is only available to current IoD members. All fees are exclusive of VAT. Payment of the fees may be made in two instalments during the delivery of the programme. More flexible payment arrangements are at the discretion of the GTA and must be agreed before the commencement of the programme. The programme fees do not include the two-day Crammer Session, the fee for which will be confirmed once a cohort has been secured. Fees may be paid by cheque to ‘GTA University Centre’ or by BACS transfer. Please contact the Accounts Manager at the GTA for details.

INVOICES

An invoice will be sent to you prior to the commencement of the course with details of the instalment dates and amounts.

CANCELLATION POLICY

a) If notice of a cancellation is received in writing more than 30 days before the course start date, you will be charged 20% of the course fee.

b) If notice of a cancellation is received in writing 21-30 days before the course start date, you will be charged 50% of the course fee.

c) If notice of a cancellation is received in writing between 0-20 days before the course start date all fees are forfeited.

SUBSTITUTES

Delegates may (without financial penalty) send a substitute, provided the GTA is notified in writing in advance, and such a substitute meets the entry criteria. If the substitute is a non-member of the IoD, any fee difference must be paid prior to the course.

DRESS CODE

In accordance with the IoD rules, delegates are required to wear business attire at all times. Gentlemen must wear a jacket and tie. Jeans and casual wear are not acceptable.

ACCESS / SPECIAL DIETARY REQUIREMENTS

Delegates are requested to notify the GTA of any special dietary or access requirements on receipt of their joining instructions.

SCHEDULE CHANGES

Descriptions, including fees, are given in good faith. However, the IoD and /or the GTA reserves the right to change content, leader, location and fees, or to cancel, for whatever reason. Neither the IoD or the GTA will be held responsible for any fees/cancellation charges incurred by these changes.
