INVERCARGILL
CENTRAL BAPTIST
CHURCH
132nd Annual Report
2010
132nd ANNUAL REPORT & FINANCIAL STATEMENT
of
INVERCARGILL CENTRAL BAPTIST CHURCH
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31st DECEMBER, 2010
AN EXPLANATION:
This year we plan to do things a little different on “Vision Night” which will be on Friday 11th March. It
will be a time to look back with thanksgiving on what God has enabled us to do during 2010, and look
forward with anticipation and faith to those things we sense He has in store for 2011.
In the context of the VISION we will:
* share a meal together (pot luck) beginning around 6pm)
* tell faith stories
* share vision
* elect Church leaders: (nominations for Elders are: Joy Thompson, Andrew Aitken,
Richard Lobb, Gordon Veale)
* adopt the Budget for the coming year
To prepare for the VISION NIGHT I have invited ministry leaders to submit their faith goals in the form
of a budget that has been approved by the Elders and will be presented at the VISION NIGHT. I have
also invited them to record what God has done in and through their ministries during this year.
That is what this report is all about.
Blessings,
BRIAN KENNING

Senior Pastors Report
Once again this past year has been one in which the people of ICBC have sought to live as fully devoted
followers of Jesus. We have gathered on Sundays for worship and in small groups throughout the week
to support/encourage one another on the faith journey. Nine people were baptised this year, indicating
their commitment to be lifelong followers of Jesus. On average 443 people gathered for worship on
Sundays – similar numbers to 2009. The most significant feature of gathered worship statistics has been
the small rise in attendance at Night Church, the first increase since 2004. This has coincided with a long
journey of reflection and prayer which has seen Night Church re-branded as “Flock” and a greater
degree of participation in Night Church by those who are part of the Flock community.
Preaching series during 2010 included: “On the Road with Jesus” (leading to Easter), “God’s
Messengers” (May Mission Month), “Therefore” (Romans 12-16), “Growing Deep” (prayer), “The Real
You” (Emotional Health), “Stories Jesus Told” (parables) and “Stories they didn’t tell you in Sunday
School” (Life of David). 2010 will be remembered by many as a year of challenging events in the life of
our church family, brought into focus by the deaths of Mark Tressler, Sara Loo and Emma Campbell. The
circumstances of their deaths stretched our faith yet, at the same time, enabled the church family to
express Christlike love and has also led to a deepening of the spiritual life of our community.
The pastoral team continued to work hard giving leadership to the ministries of the church. This came
at some personal financial cost. During the year, David McKenzie (and Fiona) undertook extended study
leave, Stacey McCrea concluded as Assistant Youth Pastor with Kim Barker filling this role on a
temporary and voluntary basis. At the end of 2010 Ron Schischka retired after 15+ years on the pastoral
team. Ron’s retirement and David’s move out of Youth ministries will mean an adjustment to existing
pastoral responsibilities and the appointment of a new Youth Pastor.
As part of their oversight responsibilities, the Elders have been working on revising and updating a
number of church policies including a policy for Church led overseas mission trips. Our plans are for
further Church-led mission trips in 2012/2013. Together with the pastoral team the Elders reviewed our
“Toward 2010” vision statement and produced a new “2011 and Beyond” document setting out a broad-
brush sense of direction for the church.
Looking ahead 2011 will mark the 10th anniversary of the opening of our Community Centre. We
propose to do this with a Ministry Fair and a Thank Offering to eliminate the $120,000 still outstanding
on this facility that is well used by both church and community.
2011 will also see some adjustments to Children’s Ministry curriculum and structures and a greater
emphasis on the partnership between church and family in the spiritual nurture of children and youth.
Shalom

Fellowship & Discipleship Ministry Report
As the year rolls around my task in short
Is to write a bit for this annual report.
I try to remember what happened and when
In the year that is known as 2010
to help build our small groups we had some great theories
and so we decided to run three church wide series;
with One Lent and one Mission and one Growing Deep too
We hope that this last year was one in which you grew.
We followed the last with a weekend of prayer
which you’d remember of course (that is if you were there)
Half way through the year we launched a new night church
And it started off smoothly with hardly a lurch
So thanks to the dreamers (Ashley, Hayley, Nicole and Sam)
(and all with no-one mentioning green eggs and ham)
Now the notices are a highlight, and we’ve formed 3 new bands
And coffee and cake have been served by serving hands
Flock is not a T-Shirt or Service it’s so much more...
And I’m excited about what God has in store
We gather on Sundays, on the rest we all scatter.
What we do on Monday to Saturday does really matter,
in small groups we share our lives, our passion, our heart
and I reckon that’s where much of our changing will start
Well I’ve come to the end and it’s quite a relief
Yes, even a preacher can (sometimes) be brief.
Colin Wood
Assimilation Ministry Report
We continue to see new faces at all of the Sunday services, and that is encouraging and challenging. It is
encouraging, because people come to town, and like others, hear about ICBC and ‘check us out.’ I’m
pleased to say the majority of ‘checker-outers’ stay with us. Better than that, we have had a number of
younger adults (‘20 something’ year olds) who are motivated and therefore take the initiative to form
relationships with others and start their own Small Groups. There’s no effort on the staff team’s part to
bring these groups into existence, but we are very pleased with the outcome.
Of course, this is always the challenge; it’s one thing having new people among us Sunday by Sunday. It’s
another seeing them grow in relationship with others here, and being encouraged to own and be part of
ministry at ICBC and beyond.
‘High-fives’ to Graeme and Joyce Young, the ‘Newcomer’s Lunch’ team, and the Service Teams who look
out for, welcome and provide wonderful lunch-time experiences for our newcomers. You really are
part of the ‘shop-front’ to our Sunday services, and you all do this so well. Thank you, and may our Lord
bless you in this ministry in 2011.

Support Ministry/Treasurer’s Report
For the first time since I began in this position I am confident that we can give you a set of audited (and
therefore accurate) accounts for the last year, come Vision Night. The extra money paid to our
accountants was, I believe, well spent in 2010. Sharon Soper is a fast learner and she is not afraid to use
initiative in her Office Administrator’s role. She has quickly taken on board our updated (computer)
accounting package, and I have no doubt that the financial systems are handled efficiently and well in
her hands. I am therefore confident that on a month by month basis we are presenting the elders with
the right kind of accurate financial reporting; thank you Sharon.
Money continues to be tight, and I know many of you continue to support the work of the church
sacrificially and generously; the Lord bless you! The Finance Advisory Group works steadily with me on a
month by month basis, making recommendations to the elders and foreseeing any possible trends and
pitfalls. Setting a realistic –achievable budget for 2011 has been no mean feat for them, and I want to
acknowledge the Advisory Groups faithfulness in arriving at the proposals that were finally accepted and
adopted by the elders. We live in globally difficult times and with that in mind I want to also thank the
Staff Team who have acted with good sense and restraint when it’s come to stretching their monetary
efficiency, and in finding other – cheaper ways of achieving their ministry purposes.
Finally, I am confident going into this year that we have the systems and resources in place to respond
well to our Lord’s direction and the ministry initiatives that underpin that. There are exciting things
happening in this (ICBC) part of the Lord’s vineyard in Southland, and I count it a privilege to serve in
practically underpinning the ministries of ICBC in partnership with you.

Community and Pastoral Report
When, recently, I had to introduce what ministries I’m involved in at a ‘Newcomer’s Lunch; the first
thought that came to mind was that I’m a ‘licorice allsort’ – a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Of
course, my primary passion is people, and in this context, since Ron (Schischkas’) retirement I’ve been
overseeing Community, and more recently Seniors’ Pastoral care.
We have heard of how the ministry of ‘Central Silo’ developed in the last year, and I’ll leave Dianne
Mowat to cover that in her report in this document; suffice to say that Silo brings across our paths a
whole raft of distressed, lonely and needy people. Meeting and engaging lovingly with some of these
people is a new challenge for some of us, me included. Grateful thanks to those of you who so willingly
have taken up this mantel.
As 2011 unfolds I expect to continue to be requested to officiate at funerals and weddings for those
beyond the local church community, as part of ICBC’s wider community service. I find engaging with
families in their grief (or matrimonial joy) deeply meaningful. l enjoy aiming at making a funeral service
a fitting tribute and celebration of a loved one’s life. My role as a supervisor for three ministry
teams/pastors from other churches in the city also continues on a month by month basis.
As I start in the ministry of Senior pastoral oversight, I am enjoying visiting and getting to know many of
you ‘seniors’ and taking the occasional service at Rowena Jackson Village. Please do contact me if you
have any personal pastoral concerns; better still, if you know of others in need and in danger of going
unnoticed by us, I’d love a call to put me wise.

Pastoral & Community Ministries
This year has been different with only working part-time 3 days a week, (well most of the time). In hind
sight I think it was a good way to wind down from full time to part time to retirement. Well who really
retires from Ministry. I will still be busy and Rosalie and I are going to be working on a volunteer basis
for an organization called “Celebrate Messiah” who minister to the Jewish people, mainly the many
Israelis who pass through this country. Every year we will be Pastoring the hosts and looking out for
new hosts, so we are excited about the work ahead of us. I want to take this opportunity to say thanks
for your love, support and prayers. Many blessings,
Pastor Ron Schischka
Youth
What a journey. 2010 is a year that has held some amazing adventures and experiences for our youth
and leadership team, but also some changes that have been unexpected challenging and exciting.
Our year started with a number of our youth team involved with the “One Way Ministries” motor bike
camp @ Ettrick, a great outreach camp, then back into youth events back at planet central. There was
Cromwell camp for intermediates, and an awesome senior camp at Kinloch that had a significant impact
on youth and team. Then a raft of activities at “Full on Fridays” and learning opportunities through “Soul
Train”, “Power Up”, and “Night church” now “Flock @ icbc”.
It has been a huge privilege in 2010, being part of a team that has seen a number of our young people
becoming fully devoted followers of Jesus through new or renewed commitments or baptism and many
more moving forward in there faith journey. A great big thank you God, for courageous leaders,
incredibly supportive parents and a wonderful youth community that are “ICBC Youth”.
This youth community has grown strong out of a church family that has young people at its core and
“Praying legends” that have blanketed our young people and all their activities, camps and crazy antic’s
in prayer. Thank you all from our youth leadership team. You are our unseen keepers and anchors. Bless
you all heaps.
The middle of the year saw some tough days with Stacey making the decision to step down from her
role as assistant youth pastor. I found this a particularly challenging time but felt Gods hand in the
journey as Kim Barker was willing to step back into a voluntary role leading the “Soul Train” team and
acting youth pastor role while Fiona and I took some of my study leave in our Australian bike adventure
in July August.
That journey had God resting me long enough to notice His hand at work over the past 4 or 5 years,
molding, shaping and growing me into a way broader pastoral ministry. During this process I knew our
young people needed a youth pastor that was totally focused on them and youth ministry.
So then began the prayerful process of working with Pastor Brian and the Elders to facilitate the changes
that would allow that to happen.
So the last part of the year has been an emotional rollercoaster as so many activities, events and
programs have been possibly my last as youth pastor. It’s hard because my love and passion for our
youth and their families is as strong as ever, and not a switch I can turn off. But I am excited because
God clearly has a plan for the continuing journey of our youth community, as we see in the appointment
of a fine man for the task in Andrew Gudsell. I’m also excited as God is leading me through the transition
to an assistant pastoral role and the new opportunities and challenges that this ministry and role hold.
It is with great pleasure that I welcome Andrew into his new role as Youth pastor and pass the batton
with the youth pastor mantel. With that the responsibility for a most precious part of our church
community, the youth of ICBC. God bless and protect your path Andrew, and may His spirit give you
strength, courage and wisdom for every step of the journey ahead.
Youth (contd.)
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the prayer love and support I have had from all the
ICBC youth and families, the Elders and Pastoral team during my term as youth pastor of ICBC. Your
support and encouragement has been at times a life line in what can be a very demanding role.
Physically, mentally and spiritually it can push you beyond what you think you can endure, but God is
good and he surrounded me and my team with a very big support crew. Thank you all and God bless you
heaps.
Speaking of amazing support crew, our youth leaders have been legends and without them I would have
been burnt out and gone years ago. Alan Sadlier has been with me through the whole journey and too
many others to mention by name have given a huge amount of themselves, a gallant effort. Your loyalty
and tireless service, endless patience, unconditional giving of yourselves, time and possessions has
impacted hundreds of lives for Gods kingdom. God bless you heaps for your gift and sacrifice.
To the hundreds of wonderful young people whose lives I have had the privilege of sharing, you are an
amazing crew. Keep trusting and loving God, no matter what life brings your way. Look to God for the
courage, strength and wisdom to overcome the obstacles. Bless ya all heaps, and thank you all for being
you. Continue to be the best you, you can be!!
To my wife Fiona, thank you for all your support love, patience, countless meals for the multitudes,
endless nights and weekends without a husband over this chapter of my ministry. Without you I
wouldn’t have survived one month of 4 years of Bible College, let alone the long years of youth ministry.
You are the unseen hero in this youth ministry. “Behind most good men there is an even better
woman.” As I embrace my 13th year of ministry at Central I want to thank you all for the opportunity to
have been one of this country’s longer serving youth pastors and I look forward with anticipation and
expectation to the next chapter.
Bless ya all heaps.

Worship Team Report
Our worship team, singers and musicians, sound technicians and data people have gifted us their time,
energy and skills in Gods service with love and passion. I want to thank you all very much for your
sacrifice and commitment. Because of your contribution God has continued to bless our praise and
worship times, allowing His family to connect with Him.
Every year there are worship team members come and go throughout the year. It’s always hard to say
goodbye to members of our team. This year is no exception as a number move on. We pray you find
new church homes and continue to bless others through your music. I always look forward to the new
team members God sends every New Year and already we have some new team members and I’m
looking forward to serving alongside you this year. Welcome to you all on behalf of our team.
A special thank you to our worship leaders, who have worked hard throughout the year, coordinating,
encouraging and resourcing their teams. You have prayerfully and carefully selected songs, while being
sensitive to the needs and requirements of the speakers. We appreciate your contribution and
commitment.
2010 has seen some significant changes in our worship team structure. We have formed three bands to
cover “Flock @ ICBC” our Sunday evening service, and these three bands have embraced the
opportunity to unite musically and spiritually more intimately, giving us new opportunities to connect
with God in our worship.
Glenda Sadler and Kim Barker accepted the invitation to take over the week to week running of our
worship teams and have done a great job managing the transitions and training in the later part of the
year.
I’m looking forward with enthusiasm to this year in the worship team, as I continue to have pastoral and
general oversight of a really neat team of people. It is my prayer God continues to direct and bless our
worship and our path as a family of God.
Bless ya heaps.
David McKenzie
Children & Families Ministries
As I look back & attempt to review Children & Families Ministries at ICBC during 2010, my thoughts are
overshadowed by what has happened in just the last 2 months and where God has now brought us to in
2011. Through a lot of last year I sensed God stirring both me and others involved in Children’s Ministry
here on a Sunday morning. Now in hindsight I can see how conversations, thoughts, ideas and nudges
have all played a God-directed part in the major changes you’ve seen as we’ve started up our Sunday
morning programmes for 2011. 2010 was certainly a year of setting the stage as God moved pieces into
place.
Significant changes in the last year have included:
the introduction of ‘Faith at Home’ section in the newsletter to encourage & equip families
a move towards ‘All in Services’ becoming more participation rather than performance focused
the introduction of a Welcome Zone as an initial place of connection
the change of age groupings to bring school aged children together at 252
moving locations of Nursery and Rainbow Room in order to provide more continuity for children
and parents
and recently: a major paint & makeover in the old Sunday School room –currently used by
Rainbow Room & Busy Bees Playgroup
& the stepping up of key people to share leadership & coordination of the Welcome Zone, 252,
and possibly also the Nursery area. Thank you God!
Oversight and responsibility for kids & programmes on Sundays has continued to be a major part of my
work as C&F Team Leader. It has been a pleasure to continue to work with Anna Ellis as she has
continued coordinating crèche, developed it into The Rainbow Room, and introduced exciting new
initiatives to help little people learn about & love God. Check out her RR report for more details.
My responsibility for Sunday School & Young Discoverers has continued to be more hands on than is
ideal, with the absence an overall coordinator in each area. We have however had key leaders &
committed teams who have served faithfully & passionately. As always, work & family & study
circumstances have changed for a number of team members which has meant some have had to step
aside from kid’s ministry and God has provided others to step up. It was heartbreaking to journey as a
team with the Loo family over the 2nd term. We miss Sara and thank the Loo’s for their various
contributions to children’s work here at ICBC.
Besides regular Sunday morning and holiday programmes, we have continued to have teams of people
who serve in midweek community ministries such as Mainly Music, Busy Bees Playgroup, and ‘Grace’
meals for families of newborns. These allow for significant contact points with many non-church
families. For more details have a read of the annual reports for each of these areas.
Throughout 2010 my own professional development has occurred in a number of intentional contexts
including attending a day conference with Margaret Spicer from Willow Creek, and spending a training &
mentoring weekend with Elke Keeling from Windsor Park Baptist. I’ve also been researching current
Children’s Ministry theory & practices including the Orange Strategy which has been developed by
ReThink. As a leadership team we believe this will provide some valuable tools as we seek to partner
with families in raising kids with faith.
God is truly faithful & has been continuing to raise up passionate people who have a heart for kids, a
love for Jesus, and are ready to step up into becoming all he has planned for them. I’m excited about
this new phase of the journey, and look forward to writing my annual report for 2011 –I wonder what
will we have to say in a year’s time?
Melanie Keith
Rainbow Room (Crèche) Report
The Rainbow Room (crèche) is the space that caters for babies and children aged from newborn
to 3 years old. At the start of term 3, crèche underwent a transformation and to mark the
occasion we re-named our crèche space “The Rainbow Room”.
In Term 3 the Rainbow Room introduced a very simple teaching programme, catering to the
needs of toddler learning. The Leaders this year have been Catherine McGregor and myself for
the 9.30am service and Cindy Neilson and Simon Ellis for the 11am service. Each Leader
delivered the programme for 4 weeks and then swapped with the other leader for the next 4
weeks. The Leaders were assisted by 2 helpers who each help out 1-2 times per term. During
the holidays, The Rainbow Room ran on a free play format with 2 helpers to supervise the
children.
We start the session with a mat time that includes a Bible Story, prayer and worship followed
by an activity and morning tea. The introduction of mat time has been a big change for the
children, and I am so grateful to all the parents and helpers who have faithfully gathered on the
Rainbow Mat themselves and supported the children to sit and participate – you are awesome
and such an encouragement to the leaders. The children are a delight to teach and have
adapted to Mat Time brilliantly.
I take this opportunity to thank-you to all the people who have helped out with the Rainbow
Room in any way shape or form – our wonderful Prayer Partners, Dot for our awesome
Rainbow artwork, Linda for our Rainbow Mat, those who clean the room, the Pastoral team
especially Melanie who has encouraged and supported our programme changes, Wyn who
makes the play dough, all 37 helpers, and of course the parents and children who participate. A
special mention must go to our Leaders who stepped out in faith and allowed God to use them
bless the young families of ICBC.
Finally, thank-you God for entrusting our Church family with an ever increasing number of
babies and children. You know how much we can learn from them.
Anna Ellis
Busy Bees has had another solid year through 2010 as we’ve
continued to provide a place for preschoolers & their adults to
play and build friendships with others.
Much of what we do centre’s around providing a range of play experiences for children to participate in,
however as a committee we are also intentional about our interactions with the parents and caregivers
that come along from week to week. We welcome new families each week, send out notes in the mail
& aim to spend 1:1 time connecting and building relationships on a Wednesday morning. Our termly
social events for adults are also an important way we get to know others in the group.
Over the past year we’ve spent a large proportion of our Ministry of Education funds on toys and
equipment. This has put us in a great position to ensure we are providing a variety of equipment,
experiences and opportunities as required by the MoE for early childhood settings. In time, all
playgroups will have to become ‘certificated’ in order to receive funding from the MoE. I am currently
working through these regulations & certification criteria. It’s a long process!
Two major environmental changes that have taken place at Busy Bees has been the arrival (finally) of a
custom made divider wall to create a baby-safe area, and also the donation of a large bookstand from
the team at Manna Bookshop. Thanks to Manna and to Bob Tressler & Alan Gallagher who have
prepared and painted the bookshelf for use at the beginning of 2011.
As always, getting the right team of enthusiastic key people has been a major factor in the success and
smooth running of Busy Bees. At the end of 2010 we farewelled Rachael Allan who has been treasurer
and secretary while her children have been of Busy Bees age. Rachael’s administration skills & efficiency
has been a blessing to me and the team and we are thankful she is continuing on in the treasurer role in
2011. We welcomed Bronwyn Elder, Jean Wilkie and Rochelle Schamehorn to the team and look
forward to their continued input in 2011.
We know God is blessing our efforts & relationships at Busy Bees and look forward to being part of what
he is doing in the coming year.

GRACE Ministries
The past year has seen 25 families receive meals and some home baking to help them through those
first couple of weeks at home with a new baby. This can be a very stressful time for Mums when sleep is
needed but the family still needs to be fed. This Ministry is really making a difference in the lives of
these young families and it is really appreciated.
We have a dedicated team of helpers who provide yummy meals and beautiful home baking.
We had a social get-together before Christmas which was lovely, and we were able to discuss how we
each saw this ministry developing over this next year. We would love some more people to join us in
providing this service, or you can be involved by referring family and friends you think would
benefit, they don't need to belong to ICBC .
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the cooks for their generosity and willingness to provide
the lovely meals, sometimes at short notice! Bless you all
Ann Harkness
Coordinator.
Library Report
Book donations have been, as always, gratefully received; also newly purchased books have been added
to the shelves. We have started a children’s Christian DVD section and are hoping that this will grow in
the coming months – pre-loved and new DVDs welcome.
Borrowing is steady – returning not quite so steady!

Miriam Ministries Miriam Ministries have had another fun and encouraging year supporting women both at ICBC and in
our Community. We started the year off with a wonderful, well supported night in March, listening to
one of our own church family members, Sharon Tiatia. Sharon spoke to us about God’s amazing love
and it was great to see so many women praying and encouraging each other.
In May we hosted and helped with the organization of the World Vision “Girls Night Out”. What an
amazing night with ‘Petra Bagust’ speaking to us on ‘Pearls of Wisdom’ and ‘Julia Grace’ singing to us
throughout the evening. World Vision supplied us with a lovely supper which included their infamous
‘chocolate fountain’.
A Women’s Health Night was held in August with 16 informative stalls manned by Community Health
Organisations. Workshops were held by four female Doctors covering health topics relevant to all ages.
We finished 2010 off in grand style with an informal movie night where our women were treated to the
movie, “Joshua”, complete with popcorn, ice cream sundaes and supper.
Sadly for us all, one of our Miriam Ministries leaders, Christine Cornwall moved away to live on a farm
near Clinton just before Christmas. We would like to thank Christine very much for her total
commitment to Miriam Ministries, and wish her all the best for the future. Thank you also to everyone
who has contributed to Miriam Ministries through the year. Many Blessings
Christine Cornwall, Heather Barker and Sharon Soper
Mainly Music
This year we have seen steady attendances at both the Tuesday and Wednesday sessions, with an
average of 17 for Tuesday and 20 for Wednesday. It is very pleasing to see mums who bring their
friends along .This year Virginia ended her time with us as a leader, and we look forward to having Anna
back on the team, for the coming year.
We have a celebration in each term, being Easter, Mothers day, Fathers day, Christmas, when we give
gifts and generally have a social event for the families. This year the Christmas special was a visit to the
miniature railway out at Otatara which was very well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by children and
adults alike.
I want to give thanks for the support of the faithful prayer partners, who undergird our work and
witness. Thanks to the team of volunteers who come along each week, (some come both days, ) with a
special word for David who has done a lot of work behind the scenes preparing CDs for each session,
and has made copies of all our songs to keep in storage..
Remember we are always ready to welcome people into the team.
Barbara Harrison (Co-ordinator)
Prison Ministry
Those who are part of a Prison Ministry team are called Volunteers by the Corrections Department. They have to apply to be accepted as suitable people who will adhere to the regulations and the requirements of the prison system. When going into the prison they have to be willing to be searched, go through a scanner, remove anything that is metal from their person, i.e. belts, watches, jewellery, shoes etc. If they happen to have an artificial hip, knee or metal rods in their body they need to have a doctor’s report on what ever it is. It also helps to have a good sense of humour. Many of the prisons in New Zealand are now on an 8 to 5 lockdown, which means inmates are locked in
their cells from 5 pm to 8 am. Because of this they have no evening programmes. Invercargill prison has
not taken on this system except during holidays. Sunday church services are not affected.
We have a great team from ICBC who attend and take part in supplying a Sunday service once every
month. There has been an increase in the number of inmates coming up to the chapel during the past
year, although there were a couple of times when there was only one or two which meant we
outnumbered those attending.
We are looking forward to this new year because we believe that God is going to do something good in
Invercargill prison. Please pray for us.

Men’s Ministry
To help men become plugged into Jesus & switched on through Adventure, Service & Accountability.
Ministry Management Team:- Pastor Colin Wood - Team Leader Ian Mowat Team Members: Alan Daniels & Allan McKenzie ICBC Men’s Ministry continues to encourage all men to grow in Christ with fellowship, help, fun & support. We enjoyed, & still do, meeting every Friday morning at 7am for fellowship & Bible study – ALL Men welcome. Another very successful Promise Keepers was held in Dunedin & July saw 34 of our men travel up to PK where we were richly blessed with God’s presence all weekend – what an awesome fellowship time for all. Early November many of our men travelled to Alexandra and attended Southern Men Ministries “ Brassknocker Road “weekend camp – truly another wonderful experience. God’s blessings to all

Central Silo 2010
On the 3rd May a pilot for a community outreach to supply nutritional food to those less fortunate in the
community was commenced. During the last 6 months it has become very obvious that God has been
building the house and bringing the people.
John 6:32. “I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me will ever be hungry again; those who
believe in me will never thirst.”
Highlights:
Our teams that serve has risen from 8 to over 30—thank you all
Numbers attending have increased to an average of 20 per night
We have been blessed with on going funding and food assistance from our church family, friends outside of Invercargill and local businesses----bless you all
During this last 6 months we have been privileged to be a part in 3 lovely people coming to know the Lord, and also making many friends.
I would like to thank everyone who has made this dream a reality, and look forward to another year fill
with the Grace of the Lord as we continue to serve Him.

Food 4 Life – Accountability Group Proverbs 16:2 says "Commit to the Lord whatever you do and you will succeed." This ministry was set up in August 2008 to meet weekly to help those people who struggle in the area of food or just want to learn healthier eating habits. Our purpose is to journey together as we make lifestyle changes in our attitude to food. We offer unconditional, non-judgemental support, celebrating successes and equipping those in their struggles. If we serve a God who can give us victory in all areas of our life then the area of food is no exception. Over 2010 we increased meetings to twice a week – a lunchtime meeting and an early evening meeting to accommodate those people who work during the day. We have had up to 34 people on our roll – most of these are from a church background although we do have non–churchgoers attending. This is a ministry that is slowly making changes in people lives from the inside out. Debbie Veale
Overseas Missions Team Report
2010 was a year of continued support for our long term missionaries.
These are John and Susan Osbourne – Team leaders in Bangladesh. (Tranzsend)
Julian and Claire Doorey – Bangladesh (Tranzsend)
Ian and Colleen Robertson – Thailand (Tranzsend)
Jim and Diane Young – Malawi (SIM)
Kgmotso - Malawi
New Zealand Baptist Missionary Society (NZBMS) has visited Baptist Churches nationwide over 2009 and
canvassed opinion regarding mission structures for the future. As a result of this Tranzsend continues to
be the denominational mission organisation serving the Baptist churches with a specific focus on Asia
and the Pacific. In addition and focused on the wider mandate, 'Mission World' has been established as
a department of NZBMS, to resource and mobilise NZ Baptists together with strategic mission partners
to 'those areas of the world to which God may direct'.
In particular the following nine strategic mission partners have been identified to begin this journey
with:
Tranzsend
Interserve
WEC
MAFNZ (Mission Aviation Fellowship NZ)
Pioneers
Wycliffe (Bible Translators NZ)
OMF International
SIM
Youth with a Mission (YWAM)
Mission World initiative sits alongside Tranzsend as well as BANZAid, the Aid and Development
operation; and Marketplacers International Limited, the business enterprise. These four all sit under
the auspices of NZBMS with the key message being 'New Zealand Baptists reaching the world'.
The shorter term mission trips such as that to Vanuatu in 2009 do not come under the auspices of OMT
and the future of these trips was decided at church meetings held after the Vanuatu trip. It is envisioned
that there will be two trips in 2012 the nature and destination still to be finalised by the principal
organizers.
