What Do The Following Have In Common...?
The funds raised by the Bread Sales, the Innisbruck wrapping paper sale, the Holiday Baskets and the Holiday Boutique are restricted to the ISB Enrichment Program for the students.
What is the ISB Enrichment Program?
The Enrichment Program is a year‐long series of PTO‐funded workshops and productions de‐signed to enrich the lives of ISB students, from Pre‐K to Grade 12. It is built on the premise that "plenty of learning occurs outside the classroom."
The many programs offer a spectrum of topics, including art, music, dance and science. Some programs directly augment current school curricula. For example, the "Pyramids and Phar‐aohs" workshop supports the 2nd Graders' unit on Egypt each Spring, and the "Global Warm‐ing/Climate Change" program was designed specifically to support and augment ISB's Green Initiative. Other enrichment programs simply expose ISB students to new thoughts and ideas (opera, capoeira, a cappella) and others complement the curriculum (Mad Science, Techsplo‐ration, Fossils & Dinosaurs).

Dear ISB Community,
We are very happy to share with you the success of the EUREKA Gala 2010 and science funding!
As you know, this year’s challenge was a difficult one: raising $250,000 to build a new science lab on
the 4th floor of our historic building in Cambridge, and also to equip Maternelle with a smart board.
And of course, we reached our Annual Fund goal.
It all started with the "participation kick off campaign "from October 20 until November 20, 2009, with
the support and help of our development parent ambassadors. With their dedication and support, we
reached a 60% participation rate in 4 weeks, and also reached our Annual Fund goal.
This support of the community enabled us to reach out to external funding and major donors, starting
in November. Our goal at that time was to be able to announce at the Gala that we had 50% of the
funding required for the science lab… the response from the community at large and corporations ex‐
ceeded our expectations! We were able to announce at 10 pm on April 9th that already 90% of the
funding for the lab was confirmed (including profit from our ticket sales and the online auction)! The
remaining funds were raised before midnight!

The International School of Boston allocates 5.5% of its budget to direct financial assistance
to families, reducing the cost of tuition for 60 students, with a total budget of $516,000 for
the fiscal year 2009‐2010 (1.5% increase). A total of $1,050 was also allocated to 8 students
for expenses related to field trips.
The same year, the AEFE (Agence pour l’Enseignement Français à l’Etranger) distributed a
total amount of $1,066,688 to 82 ISB families. Furthermore, the financial support of the
French authorities, a procedure called "prise en charge," allocated an amount of $407,300
towards the scholarship of 19 French students, from grades 10 to 12, preparing the French
baccalaureate.
Altogether, almost 30% of the ISB students benefited from financial aid.
On behalf of these students and their families, the International School of Boston is truly
thankful to its partners, the Consulate General of France in Boston and the AEFE for their
assistance and support.

Our College Fair… Bringing the World to ISB
30 universities came to our College Fair on April 29. Most of the colleges and universities repre‐
sented were from the United States, the others from Europe. They were thrilled to meet with our
students and to get to know our school. We are looking forward to organizing a third college fair
next year. This is a great opportunity to show our school, present our programs, and introduce
our Students to the college admission process!
ISB OPENS MANY DOORS
ISB Students into the World
Our 2010 graduates can be found studying at McGill University, Sciences Po College Transatlantic
Campus Reims, Wellesley College, Concordia University (Montreal), George Washington Univer‐
sity, Reed College, Faculté de Médicine in Paris, Université de Montreal, and École des Beaux Arts
in Paris, among others.
Other students can be found doing a gap year of volunteering with a humanitarian organization in
Kenya, working in Paris, and taking French as a Second Language ("formation continue") at the
Sorbonne.
Alumni
"Completing the IB at ISB was a challenging yet thoroughly rewarding experi‐
ence. My class had a small student: teacher ratio, which ensured me individual
attention from fantastic teachers and guaranteed my academic success. Every
ISB student is a fascinating, globally‐shaped individual, each bringing something
unique to the international education that the IB and ISB are all about."
‐Kat Shields , IB Class of 2009
"I only spent my senior year at ISB and just graduated with a French Baccalaureate. Although I
was reticent at first at arriving at a much smaller school than the one I attended previously, I can
only say that I loved my time there. The thing that marked me the most though
was the diversity of the amazing students I met, not only in their origins and
nationalities, but also in their personalities, goals and views of the world and
how they interact with each other despite those differences. Every single indi‐
vidual somehow stands out in the crowd. I'm attending McGill University in
Canada next year and plan on doing Medical studies later on."

"ISB for HAITI"
At ISB, the week of January 25 to 29
was officially designated as
"Haiti Relief Week."
In retrospect,
the benefits will be long lasting.
Our Student Councils organized
various fundraising and awareness‐
raising efforts and the community all
pitched in. From this collective effort,
we are very happy announce that
the ISB students and community
TOGETHER raised $5,052.26 for Haiti.
The week has passed, but our continued
help for Haiti and our ISB Haitian fami‐
lies will always be on our minds
and in our hearts.
