Vision

• The overall clients vision of the facility.– This is not your vision, but your interpretation

of the clients vision. By the end of the presentation the client should understand how your design will help them achieve their vision.

VISION Example

To create a landmark learning environment that promotes health, wellness and community:

• An Academic Building – a visionary learning and teaching environment• A Smart, Healthy Building – flexible, resource efficient• A Landmark Building — civic, timeless, expressive/reflective• Foster a Healthy Community – for the campus and existing resources

Restores Health and Productivity of Human and Natural Systems

Programmatic requirements

• Critical programmatic issues that you responded to in your design.

• Do not include things that you did not respond to directly in your design.

• For instance if sustainability was a issue, but you have no real sustainable solutions in your design DO NOT include that as a Critical issue.

• As your presentation develops• This also includes requirements that you have

brought to the table that are not specifically in the Program

BUILDING DESIGN GOALS

To support the vital program of quality nursing education and research

Recognizing the shortage of nurses

A central place for all the University’s students to learn and gather

• “High Touch and High tech”• A durable and flexible facility to accommodate unpredictable future needs• The University front doorfor its educational mission

Site Planning

• Orient the reviewers to the site.– Exisitng Site drawing – Key site issues

• Your Overall Site Plan– Land use plan as you see it.– Transportation Center, Commercial, Housing,

Parks, etc. - These are just color blotches on the site.

Site Development

• This should explain where you are going to build and why?

• It should also include your architectural concept.

Facility Program

• In detail what needs to be in the Building.

• You do not have to explain every space, but you do want explain the groups – Amtrak, Metro, Core, etc.

• Show any analysis of what you did?– Photos of Programming blocks– Diagramatic Layouts– Etc.

Page 12: Intermodal Center / Multimodal Terminal Presentation Guidelines

Space Planning

• Orienting drawings that shows them 2 and 3D interpretation of your architectural concept and how your facilities program fits into that concept

• You should deal at massing level with Metro station, LRT, Amtrak, Bus and Parking and where they are located on the site and

• How they are 3-dimensionally organized.

Page 13: Intermodal Center / Multimodal Terminal Presentation Guidelines

Space Planning

• Explain how the features required in the facilities program are met in your design.

• Focus on those features that directly relate to your building concept and

• 2D and 3D drawings (floor plans, sections, perspectives, etc.) that communicate this.

• Explain the aesthetic of those interior spaces.

Structural System

• Explanation of the structural concept. Steel, Concrete, Combination, etc.

• 3D drawing of the structure.

• 2D drawings of the structural layout if needed.

Page 21: Intermodal Center / Multimodal Terminal Presentation Guidelines

Enclosure System

• Explain the Enclosure System (Glass Curtain Wall, Block/Veneer, etc.)

• Drawings relating the Enclosure system to the Structural System.

Interior Systems

• Heated air temperature can be lower and provide comfort

• Cooled air temperature can be higher and provide comfort

• Less fan energy is required

• Less overall energy may be needed to provide the same level of comfort

• Only the occupied zone needs to be heated or cooled

With an under floor air distribution system offers a variety of energy saving advantages:

Aesthetics

• Images and drawings that reflect the overall Aesthetic of your building.

• These can be despersed throughout the presentation as you communicated other ideas and features of your building.

• Do not be afraid to mix photos of products and materials with images and drawings.
