Athletics

Day 4 INTAX saw continuation of high sporting fervor, admirable displays of courage,

perseverance and team bonding.

Athletic events started off early in the morning and continued well into lunchtime; the notoriously

infamous Nagpur sun couldn’t dampen the high spirits of the OTs.

Green house brought home a bounty of medals. A tough fight was given by the Reds who saw

their medal tally rise higher and higher with each completed event. Yellow and Blue houses each

bagged quite a few medals.

The day started with Men’s 5000m run followed by Women’s 3000m run. While the gentlemen

OTs put up a great show, a matching performance was given by the lady OTs. Many of the OTs

were running such a long distance for the 1st time in their (sporting!) career and a couple of them

were persuaded to compete on the spot! All of the marathon runners completed the run, defying

all expectations (including their own!) to come out with flying colors.

The next run to take place was Men’s 100 m which saw the Course Director of the 73rd Batch, Shri

V Roy Jose sir partake in the race and set a great example to the young officers. There were

popular demands to have a different category of Suyash Vs Suyash!

Women’s javelin throwing saw OTs compete with utmost concentration and a goddess Durga like

grace to nail a few spectacular wins! ‘Tukka sahi lag gaya’ was the valuable insight that was given

post event. Javelin throw was followed by Women’s and Men’s long jump. The OTs invented quite a

few running styles and ways to hurl their bodies forward underlining the old proverb that ‘you cannot

always wait for the perfect time; sometimes you must dare to jump!’

The track events were resumed with 4x100 mixed relay, followed by 4x100 Men’s relay. Right

strategizing by the Red house proved that “instinctively knowing when to run forward, when to ease

back and when to let someone else take over are the marks of a great team and a great team player.”

Red house was closely followed by Green house with Yellow house bagging the bronze.

Medal count apart, the entire athletics spectrum would be remembered for efforts put up by injured

OTs who only seemed to soar higher along with the searing pain!! One for the house, was their

motto as they wore the colorful bandages with pride as marks of bravery and set inspiring examples

of human willpower.

Any description of today’s athletics would remain highly incomplete without a mention of the highly

efficient management of the events and smooth handling of any abrasions that arose. Our gratitude

goes to the highly alert and proficient medical team as well who ensured a quick and right treatment

to anyone who needed it.

All in all, day 2 of Athletics would go down in collective memory as one of the most glorious of them

all!

Kho-Kho

The final for Kho-Kho was played with great gusto as was the match for the bronze medal. All

the houses showed great skill and strategy and fought till the last whistle was blown. What

made the matches even more interesting was the presence of OTs from 72nd batch who were

seen leading their houses to victory.

Blue house bagged the gold while yellow house took home the silver. Green house prevailed

over Red one to clinch the Bronze.

Badminton “Badminton is like ballet dancing. It requires a lot of control, strength, mind play and measured

movement.”

It is common knowledge that NADT has best badminton infrastructure but today’s matches

proved that NADT has the best badminton talent as well. The semi-finals that were played

today could easily be termed as epitome of sportsmanship as the players won not only the

game but hearts too. As the shuttle kept whooshing to and fro over the net, so did the hopes

of keen spectators. The players demonstrated that the next shot is more important than the

last mistake and treated the audience to some good ‘baddy’ performances.

Tennis

“The fifth set is not about tennis, it’s about nerves.” – Boris Becker

The nerves proved to be even more crucial as the tennis tournament progressed into its 2nd

week. Many players, despite being injured and exhausted conjured out great spells of

backhands and forehands to put up a great show. In one of the Mens’ doubles quarter finals,

green house saved two match points and bounced back from 2-5 to emerge victorious.

Women’s singles witnessed a gallant display of might of mind over the frailties of body.

Tennis was just what it is supposed to be – an intoxicating mixture of skill, wit and grit.

Some philosophical metacommentary could be heard from the trainee officers of Indian

Revenue SERVICE that “life is like a game of tennis, the player who SERVES well, seldom loses”.

Also, the grapevine has that there were talks of few OTs thinking of entering the Wimbledon,

not as audience.

“Chess they say, is a democrat's delight. A knight here can put a king to flight.

The Bishop can come crashing from his ivory tower and the pawn can rise to power.”

Chess

The Club at the sports complex was witness to some intense drama, as the players played

mind games within the confines of the 64 squared board. Terms like Sicilian Defence, Karo

Kann Defence, Ruy Lopez, Queen’s Gambit, Pawn Sacrifice were traded in the run of the

games. But once the matches began, the chess masters put on their “cold blooded look”

masks. Chess at Intax saw many nail biting (both literally and figuratively) end games.
