PrefaceJIS College of Engineering was established in the millennium year 2000 by JISFoundation and over the last decade grown in rapid strides to transform it into anAutonomous Institute. JIS Group is the largest educational conglomerate in the state ofWest Bengal and leading Private‐sector Educational Group dedicated to impartdemand‐driven education in Science, Engineering, Technology, Management andMedical Science with highly laudable quality.

In the direction of thought of the honourable Chairman’s dream – Igniting Minds,Empowering Lives –the Institute has taken several new educational initiatives in therecent past. The prime focus continues to drive us towards achieving increased standardof technical education and wider research outreach programme. It is imperative,therefore, to be both creative & innovative in the approach to lead the institute towards aCentre of Excellence.

The Institution is declared Autonomous by the University Grant Commission in 2011.The autonomous status conferred with qualification of 2(f) and 12(b). The Institution isapproved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliated to WestBengal University of Technology (WBUT). The Institution was accredited by NationalAssessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2009 and all its eligible technologicaldepartments are accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) or underreaccreditation process. The Institution has achieved an unique milestone in this year byachieving “Grade-A” in the NAAC re-accreditation (2nd cycle accreditation process), onlyamong the Private Self Financed Engineering Institution in the State of West Bengal.

Further, the Institution has qualified for the World Bank Grant of Rs. 4 crore underTechnical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) Phase II in theSubcomponent 1.2, for PG and Demand‐ driven Research & Development & Innovation,as the only private self‐financed institution from the State of West Bengal with three leadUniversities Jadavpur University, Bengal Engineering &Science University and CalcuttaUniversity.

Located in its sprawling 17.5 acres lush ‘Green Campus’ at Satellite Township ofKalyani, 55 km north of Kolkata, the College has strength of 3000 + students pursuingvarious degree engineering courses along with computer application and management.The Campus is an ideal educational ambience with Classrooms, Laboratories,Auditorium, Smart Classrooms, Seminar Halls, Conference Halls, Computer Centre,Central Library, Gymnasium, Store and Canteen with campus WI Fi connectivity.

The Institution is moving ahead by allying, hand holding and hand‐shaking with leadUniversities and Institution of the Nation and the State. The Institution is aLearning‐centric environment with Authority always having a careful concern towardspedagogical aspects of the Learning‐Teaching and making the Faculty membersup‐to‐date with high‐end standard. Regular pedagogical training by both the Technicaltraining institute (viz. National Institute for Technical Teacher’s Training & Research -NITTTR) and by the Corporate world (viz. WIPRO Mission 10X) is a feature. Theparticipation of its Faculty members in Indian Institute of Technology hosted pedagogicaltraining programmes through live classes and direct contacts in different batches as partof the SPFU, WB initiative is a major Faculty and Staff Development initiative and

Institution has a MoU in this regard with IIT Kharagpore. The faculty members aretrained in every available opportunity under National Mission in Education usingInformation & Communication Technology (NMEICT) programme, ISTE workshopsthrough live programmes and are always encouraged to use global academicrepositories like Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) etc.

Being an Engineering College, Institution is equally concerned for close networking andtie‐ups with Industry. Regular Industrial events in mother‐engineering as well assoft‐engineering are phenomena. Collaboration with Texas Instruments or events likeInfosys Campus Connect, IBM TGMC, Microsoft Faculty Connection, MSDN AcademicAlliance WIPRO Mission 10X Learning Approaches, and Oracle University are someillustrations. The AICTE funded Industry Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC) is recognition ofthe effort. Under autonomous framework Industrial personnel have direct say in thecurriculum design as Expert in the Board of Studies (BOS). The Institution is an activeparticipant in the AICTE-CII survey.

From the viewpoint of the students, there are variations in the teaching-learning processwith content beyond the syllabus. In Design Lab (by following IIT‐MHRD frameworkcertified by IIT Bombay), the departmental students get opportunity to becomeIndustry‐ready via spoken tutorial in the technical skill of their choice. The studentsfurther get opportunities to attend live classes hosted by the IITs (specifically IIT Madras)via Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE) programme in core subjects.The Institution is able to get recognition as Remote Centre (RC-1335) of IIT Bombay andIIT Kharagpore with four-star rating, only Resource Centre of IIT Bombay in WB with aTree-star rating and further Academic Centre and Aakash Centre of IIT Bombay.

On the other hand, the students get opportunity to tune themselves by the InstitutionalSkill Development Porgrammes. The IIPC and Finishing School have pro‐active viewsregarding technical communication and soft skill of the students. The students areprovided with the programmes like advanced (GATE coaching), remedial teaching toaddress the concerned of the advanced and weak students. Entrepreneurship has alsobeen encouraged with an AICTE sponsored Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC)in place.

The members of the Institution have enriched their experience and knowledge basethrough sharing and exchanging with all possible stake holders viz. students, faculty,guardian, alumni, authority, employer and in extent with experts and regulatory bodies.This has facilitated our effort to improve institutional governance, networking andservices to community and economy. The scrutiny, analysis, monitoring and evaluationsof its programmes with community and self‐appraisal are consistently practiced so as toidentify the educational policies in a dynamic process.

The Research and Development is another emerging aspect with faculty members (17 innos) receiving their Ph.D. award during their stay in the Institution largely due tonurturing vision of the authority. Some more faculty members are on the avenues ofgetting their awards (28 in nos). Hosting and arranging R&D events like National andInternational Conference / Workshop / Seminar are a regular phenomena. In the recentpast, the Institution hosted back to back International Conferences. InternationalConference on Computation and Communication Advancement (IC3A 2013) in the areaComputation and Communication was followed by International Conference on Non-

Conventional Energy (ICONCE 2014) in were both technically cosponsored by IEEEregional section the papers of the later of which are available at IEEE Xplore. Theexperts, delegates and participants of event include stalwarts form USA, Germany,Japan, UK, Netherlands and SAARC countries. The recent international ConferenceInternational Conference on Medical Electronics (ICAME 2015) is witnessed the key-note speeches from the stalwart from Harvard medical School.

From its induction in the TEQIP programme, the Institution has been benefited a lot andwas active institutional participant in nearly all permissible events right from Joint ReviewMission (JRMs) to Project Review Workshops (PRWs) in extent to the Surveyprogrammes viz. AICTE-CII Survey to Students Faculty Satisfaction Survey (SFSS).Moreover, Institution joined actively in all regulatory Bodies (AICTE/UGC) to TEQIPparent Body (NPIU / SPFU) frame-worked Programme viz. IIT pedagogical Training toManagement Capacity enhancement Programmes at Indian Institute of Managements(IIM).

The Institution has been chosen as commencement venue by the Indian Institute ofInformation Technology (IIIT) in its inception as a National Institution. In a recentlyconcluded survey of Times Newsgroup, the Institution ranked 35th amongst the Privateself‐financed Institution and 81st among all Engineering Institution in the Country.

2. REVISED INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL (IDP)

2.1 Executive summary of the revised IDP

As decided by the World Bank and communicated by the NPIU, the project life of

TEQIP Phase II has been extended upto Ocotber’2016.

The life-time allocation allowed a minimal procurement to the Private self-financed

Institution in the form of (e)Books, (e)Journals and Software. In addition, the

expenditure on ICT enabled learning has been made mandatory. Hence a revised

Budget of Rs. 32 Lacs in the additional amount of Grant is placed for kind approval.

Scaling up PG education by introducing new, innovative and time-relevant courses

keeping in view demand and supply scenario and by implementing regular revision of

curricula and syllabi to keep pace with the emerging trends in technology. In this

purpose, Rs. 81.6 Lacs in the additional amount of Grant has been budgeted for

continuation of the PG assistance ship. .

Enhancement of facilities for demand driven technological research and

development to augment postgraduate and doctoral level studies, which in turn will

open up new areas for providing consultancy and carrying out industrial testing. The

allotted budget is 37 Lacs equally distributed in the second to last session of the

project life.

A comprehensive faculty development program to encourage innovative teaching

practices, outcome based tertiary education, time relevant courses, self propelled

growth in research and development through participation and contributions in

International/ National Conferences, Seminars, Symposiums, Workshops, and

initiation of academic exchange programs both at post graduate and doctoral levels.

The allocated budget is Rs. 40 Lacs.

Creation of Centre of Excellence in the area of Medical Electronics and enabling live

classes in various froms are the need of the hour and measurements has been taken

in this regard.

Expansion and modernization of existing infrastructure for PG & Research Work (viz.

Laboratories, Library, Networking, Smart classrooms) and creation of a centralized

computing and instrumentation facility with sophisticated equipments relevant to

expensed from the Institution own Fund as procurement of equipments permission

has not been extended to the Private Self-financed Institution.

Creation of a real time simulation facility to facilitate research on grid integration of

renewable energy systems and promote international exchange programme in the

area of Non-conventional and renewable energy.

A strategic plan for enhancing participatory management in academic, administrative

and financial affairs. The total fund allocated is 7 .5 Lacs equally allocated

throughout the remaining project life.

Implementation of a well defined and time bound plan of cooperation with the

networked institutions / industries and open up avenues for collaborative research

with Institution of importance and Universities abroad. A proactive effort for intensive

interaction with industries through student training, faculty internships, collaborative

consultations and contract research.

2.2 Proposed Revised Budget

In view of the extension of the Project life of the Phase II (2010-2014) as decided by

the National Project Implementation Unit (NPIU) upto October’ 2016 and

consequently, from the expectation of increase in Lifetime allocation (LTA) in order to

sustain soft component activities as an Autonomous Private self-financed Institution,

a revised budget is presented in the following Sub-section. The Institution expects

this additional Grant of Two Crore Ninety Seven Lakh Ten Thousand IndianRupees Only (Rs. 29710000.00) as a lead-performing Institution in terms of

utilization of funds as analyzed by the State Project Facilitation Unit (SPFU) based

on ongoing project allocation.

2.4 Revised Training Need Analysis

In order to establish JIS College of Engineering as a Center of Excellence to attract

national and international students and faculty of high quality as well as to conduct

research of international standard, SWOT Analysis & Training Need Analysis (TNA) was

done to determine the parameters, against which the training needs of the faculty

members and technical staffs are to be identified.

Based on SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat), SPIO (Specific

Problems, Issues and Opportunities), and EMB (Environmental, Motivational and

Behavioral) analysis carried out by using the prescribed proforma, and considering the

required training domains, following components are considered to be the criterion for

designing the training needs.

Now, in continuation to the previously performed TNA, the revised Training Need

Analysis process has been conducted in order to sustain the full scale initiative of the

skill enhancement of the faculty and Staff. In a fully interactive, hierarchical appraisal

and self appraisal, the Training Need Analysis on four major subheads viz.

ii) Subject domain knowledge enhancement iii) Participating in workshop / seminar iv)

Research capability enhancement v) Improvement in faculty qualification for the faculty

members.

However, the programmes i) Pedagogical Training in which the participation of all

faculty members are mandatory and Institutional management Capability enhancement

has been decided centrally by the Institutional hierarchy. The Basic Module of the

Pedagogical Training has been conducted at the Institution by the NITTTR Calcutta in

June 2014 in batches. Also, the faculty members in batches are trained in pedagogical

aspect at IIT Kharagpur. On the other hand, the Management Capacity Enhancement

Programme has been in the midway as number of Administrative workshops has been

conducted (entitled “Role of HODs”, Institutional Academic Workshop etc..) in addition to

training of the senior fauclty members by Indian Institute of Management (IIM)

framework programme initiated by the SPFU..

The summary of the Training need Analysis and thereby Training Plans to be followed

has been quantified in the Section 2.2.2 in Action Budget Plan in which the number of

events (and not the number of persons) has been mentioned under the Heads of FSD &

R&D with nature of activities mentioned therein.. The provision for Advance pedagogy

training by the NITTTR and another International Conference at the beginning of 2016

following three back to back high-end International Conference has been taken into

consideration.

2.4.3 Achievements on allocated funds:A total amount of Rs. 32.016 Lakhs and Rs. 31.459 Lakhs (as on date) has been utilized

in the respective heads of Faculty and Staff Development (FSD) and Research and

Development (R&D) which mainly incorporates hosted and attended academic events.

Moreover, in addition to encouragement of imparting training programmes and hosting

events to disseminate academic excellence and knowledge sharing, the aspirant faculty

members received support throughout for qualification up-gradation and research

capabilities encouragement. A substantial number of Faculty members during their stay

has obtained Doctoral Degree and other career development opportunities like Training

at IITs or IIMs. In the following subsections from 2.4.3.1 to 2.4.3.4 the faculty members

attending various events has been presented:

2.4.3.1 Pedagogical TrainingThe pedagogical Training programme has been conducted in a multi-modal way. By

following the TEQIP convention in joining SPFU hosted Pedagogical Training

programme at IIT, the Institution signed an MoU with IIT Kharagpur in order to train its

Faculty in batches. Following is the detailes of the faculty members nominated for the

2.6 Achievements on Soft Component ActivitiesBased on the financial status mentioned in the Section 2.3.1, the achievements on Soft

Computing activities are presented in the following sub-sections from 2.6.1 to 2.6.8.

2.6.1 Teaching and Research Assistance-ship (with Target)

73 non-GATE PG students (covering 44 1st year promoted to 2nd year students and 29 2nd yr.

students of session 2012-13 passed out in June; process of including 1st year enrolled in 2014-

15 students initiated - depending on availability of further fund till the extended project life of

October’ 2015) are being assisted involving expenditure to the amount of Rs. 112.52 lakhs

upto Nov’ 2014. No PhD assistance could be awarded as this has not yet been permitted to the

institute for registration of students for PhD.

ongoing week 29th-30th January 2015. Previously two International Conference hosted by the

2 Good GovernancePractices to beimplemented by SPFU toconduct orientationprograms for BOGmembers in respect ofboth projectimplementation and overallInstitutional development

As implemented by SPFU. A meeting in this regard has beenhosted by WBSCHE regarding PO/PEO and GoodGovernance Guide has been circulated by SPFU in its earliermeeting.

Statute and Evaluation criterion has been formulated andcirculated. The role and boundaries of each functionary aspart of Good governance measure has been defined for theautonomous framework and in place (e. g. DC meeting ineach department once in a month). This may be madeaccessible to the stake-holders.

2.6.6 Institutional reformsConcise tabular information has been provided on Institutional reforms taken in which the

curriculum reforms are in the beginning and most important aspect under autonomous

framework:

1 Curricular reforms Curricula revisions both in UG & PG under Autonomy structureare being done through BOS with participation of experts fromrenowned Academic Institutions, Universities and Industries.The revised curriculum in all technological disciplines is in placeand has been implemented in the ongoing 3rd Semester of studyin all existing programs.

2 Improved students’performance evaluation

It is already in place through periodical internal tests andcontinuous performance evaluation.Continuous performance Evaluation has been implemented inEven Semester 2013 and the Evaluation Diary for Odd Semester2013 has been circulated.Odd Semester 2013 Evaluation report has been received.

3 Performance appraisalof faculty by students

The system is in place; Faculties are being counselled afterstudents’ feedback. Students’ feedback for Appraisal of theFaculty after completion of Even Semester 2013 has been done.Students’ feedback across the Discipline has been taken inMarch’14.

4 Faculty incentive forcontinuing education

Provision for normal and accelerated upliftment is in place infaculty appraisal.Presently no CE program is in place.However, faculty member perusing Ph.D. in other Universitiesare provided with OD leave, no objection and reimbursement ofThesis expenses by following the TEQIP guidelines.

5 Accreditation of eligibleUG, PG programs

All eligible UG (6 in No.) & PG (4 in No.) are either accredited orapplied for status.NBA accreditation visit for 3 UG programme all renewal (IT,EIE, BME) and 2 PG programme (IT,CSE) is expected duringFeb-March’14.NAAC accreditation visit took place during December 15th-17th

It has been permitted by the BOG; Share of IRG betweenFaculty and Institute is in the ratio 60:40. Revenue obtained fromfunding agencies in R&D (RPS projects etc.); however that hasbeen yet to be generated in Consultancy.

Presently there is Zero vacancy.

9 Delegation of decisionmaking powers tosenior functionarieswith accountability.

Delegations have been made to the senior functionaries.

2.6.7 Remedial Teaching for the weaker studentsThe academic support to the weaker Sections has been provided with immense importance

and the Nodal Committee on Equity Action Plan have pro-active thought perception is

implementing various programmes. The remedial teaching to weaker students have

addressed the students need and the same was evident in improving transition rate of the

students under autonomous structure on acceptance of the fact that setting up papers by the

academicians of the lead Universities has been made mandatory in the autonomously

conducted semester examination

2.7 Satisfaction of Key performance Indicators (KPI)

According to the NPIU directives, the Key performance Indicators (KPI) in order to assess the

Performance of the TEQIP Institutions was first circulated during the mid 2014. The 12-

parameters KPI was responded by the Institution within 31st October, 2014 with full

compliance in which the Autonomous Status was a major parameter [Annexure 1: UGC

Autonomy letter]. The same has been presented under the Agenda Note 1; Status of

compliance of Performance Indicators (target date 31st October, 2014) as per Format

(Annexure I) in the SPFU Review Meeting with the Project Institutes held on 18th November,

2014 in the Calcutta University, Salt Lake Campus. These are presented respectively in the

following Subsection 2.7.1.

It is evident from the status of 4th JRM performance assessment Indicators as

updated by NPIU (Data Source: SPFU MRM presentation 15th Feb’ 2015) that JIS College of

Engineering satisfy all-12 criterion and compliance has been made consistently in different

2.7.2 Additional 4-parametersThe additional four parameters as the Mission recommends has been presented below:

Completion of Governance Self Review (GSR) and initial Governance Development

Plan (GDR)

Conduct of a BOG meeting within past 4-months , minutes of which should appear at

the website.

Commitments of 100% total funds received by the Institution

Completed and satisfactory submission of MIS data for the session 2013-14.

All these four criterions are complied and the same has been communicated to the SPFU

within the stipulated time period. The BOG approved Governance Self Review (GSR) is

annexed herewith [Annexure 2] along with the Governance Development Plan [Annexure 3]. ‘The BOG meeting minutes (4-meetings annually) are not only uploaded at website

but also incorporated at MIS by following the instruction.

The committed expenditures of the total availed funds have been submitted through

FMR and corresponding soft component activities are reflected at Monthly Review Report in

a regular basis.

The MIS data entry has been completed for the back to back session 2011-12, 2012-

13 ans 2013-14 within stipulated deadline. The 2014-15 MIS data entry is still ongoing.

2.7.3 Revised 9-parametersAccording to 4-th JRM performance indicators, the following aadditional set of IX (nine)

performance indicators have been recommended to be achieved by 30th April, 2015.

i. Autonomy (obtained or applied to UGC with no objection from university and state

government)

ii. Minutes of meeting of Board of Governors taking place in last 4 months published on

the institution’s website

iii. NBA accreditation (55% accredited or applied for)

iv. Statutory audit completed till 2013 -14

v. Revised IDP for 2016 with updated target indicators and timeline for completion of

governance development plan and/or institutional governance guidelines, approved

by governing body and published on institutional website

Again these additional set of 9-parameters have been complied since except the parameter-5

all other parameters coincides with previously discussed ones. The parameter -5 is this

Revised Intuitional Development Proposal (IDP) which will be submitted to the SPFU as

advised for further review and final submission will be made within the stipulated deadline

30th April’15 to NPIU.

2.8 Surveys and FeedbacksThe Student faculty satisfaction survey (SFSS) with five components Faculty members,

Students (UG), Students (PG), Scholar (Ph.D) and Admin and Technical Staff has been

complied in full by the Institution. The IPMU conducted an Institutional presentation following

the Regional Workshop conducted in this regard for the entire eastern zone Institution

including NITs and CFIs.at JU 2nd Campus on 25th September, 2014. The survey manuals

for the mentioned different categories available at NPIU website helped a lot to carry out the

entire exercise smoothly.

2.8.2 AICTE –CII SurveyThe Institution has participated in the AICTE –CII mandatory survey which is online. Some of

the major parameters of which is also contained in the Compendium-IIIC which is attached[Annexure 4].

2.9 Mentoring

A total of three- rounds of Mentoring and a total of seven- times meeting (including once

during internal audit and thrice during SPFU meetings) with Mentor has been done so far

Following are the visit schedule of the honorable Mentor Dr. K.C. Patra.

The 1st round of mentoring was done during 28th Janury to 31st January, 2013 and the

Mentors Report has been attached with this IDP. [Annexure 5: 1st Mentoring Report]

The 2nd round of mentoring was done during 7th to 10th January, 2014 and the Mentors

Report has been attached with this IDP. [Annexure 6: 2nd Mentoring Report]

The 3rd round of mentoring was done during 9th to 13th June, 2014 and the Mentors Report

has been attached with this IDP. [Annexure 7: 3rd Mentoring Report]

In each mentoring session, he has meetings with students (UG), Students (PG), Faculty,

Administrative Heads (Principal and HODs) and the members of the BOG.

2.9.1 Summary of Mentor’s observationFollowing are few excerpts from the Mentor’s overall suggestion aimed towards complete

development:

To provide adequate grant to procure equipments for new and existing PG Labs and

for R&D works since TEQIP II does not have any provision under this head.

Wi-Fi connection to be provided in all places of the college campus including hostels.

To fill up all existing faculty vacancies of the college particularly in ME and CE

departments.

To ensure Students participation in all committees except Finance.

To form own Committees like BOS, BOR, Finance

To sign MoU with different committees for R&D activities

So Far any kind of Procurement has been funded by the Trust except for some MODROB

labs and RPS projects granted by Funding agencies (AICTE/ DST etc..).

Suggestion: Wi-Fi connection to be provided in all places of the college campus including

Follow Up: Already set up in the Administrative Zone, Laboratories. Technological

Disciplines, Libraries and the Departments during June-July, 2013. Extension has been

made to the Hostels.

Follow Up: Process of Recruitment is continuous and based on suggestions of the Mentor

announcement has been made for the aforementioned as well as other department for filling

up few vacancy positions.

curriculur and Extra Curriculur viz. Library Committee, Sports Committee and more.

Under Autonomous Framework every technological disciplines has formed its own

Board of Studies which are all functioning for Curriculum Revision and Restructure

and Syllabus construction. The BOS have been formed separately for the UG and PG

courses in the Departments.

Board of Research has been subjected to approval of affiliating Universities. Some

constraints are there to implement it at this moment.

All statutory and Nodal Committees provisioned under TEQIP has been formed and

functioning viz. Academic Activities Committee, Training and Research Committee,

Industry-Institute Partnership Committee, Procurement Committee, EAP Committee,

Monitoring and Evaluation Committee including Finance Committee.

Suggestion: To sign MoU with different committees for R&D activities

Follow up: Initiatives has been taken to sign MoU for joint /collaborative alliance in R&D

activities. The discussion has been going on for R&D works. This apart Institution has MoU

with number of Industry Housed (ranging from Japanese Language ES to Microsoft MSDN,

IBM, WIPRO, TCS etc..). Soon the R&D related MoU and work will take shape.

Proposal from University of Estado at Hidalgo, Mexico and few more initiatives ahs been

going on.

Suggestion: For Consultancy work in CE Department.

Follow Up:

The follow up measure has been taken. Two experts visited the department as

consultant. Mr. Peter Crotz , expert in Township planning visited the Department

during International Conference IC3A-2013.

Since the Department is comparatively newer one and since passed out batch is yet

to come, the Research and Consultancy activities will speed up gradually.

Suggestion: To conduct Staff Development Programme (In house) in every department

Follow Up: Following the advice, the Staff Development Programme took place externally

during Last week of June- first week of July in British Council.

Suggestion: To arrange for management people, management training & Software Training

Follow Up: The following measure has been taken:

Towards Institution management capacity enhancement Principal and HOD, ME

participated in the IIM Lucknow organized Training Programme at Noida extension.

PNO (Finance) is all set to participate. The other HODs and administrative people will

join it soon. The schedule has been made and communicated to SPFU.

Good Governance workshop has been organized under TEQIP for idea sharing on

role of HODs. The participants were from various Institutions under JIS Group.

TEQIP Nodal officer are going through PMSS, FMSS and MIS web based Software

Training which they have been sharing with their respective Nodal Committee

members.

Suggestion: To revise curricula in every three years

Follow Up: Since obtaining autonomy and maturing through its 2nd session of autonomous

structure the newly framed curriculums are in practice. Surely this newly formulated

curriculum will be taken under revision within three years.

according to the AICTE guideline in the line of Washington Accord with stipulated hour

Suggestion: To undertake project for UG & PG which are related to Industries or of

Industrial applications.

Follow up: Initiative has been taken in the current session so as to encourage it further in

the line of converging projects to products and commercialization of products.

Suggestion: To encourage Research which have Industrial applications.

Follow up: Ph. D. is yet to be granted by the affiliating University. Faculty research and Post

graduate dissertation are encouraged to emphasize and incorporate more and more

industrial applications.

Suggestions: Regulation for PH.D. has been prepared but Ph. D. programme are yet to be

started with the approval of regulation by WBUT.

Follow Up: Depend on Regulatory Bodies and affiliating Universities.

The Objective of the conferencewas to identify the immense scope of MedicalElectronics in Industry , Academia and Research.The interdisciplinary nature of the Topic invitedpaper presentations from authors of EngineeringInstitutions all over the Globe . Prof. Yoshida andProf. Ritenour expressed their immensesatisfaction over the deliberations and lectures atthe conference and congratulated the Organizersfrom JIS College of Engineering for coming upwith a Conference of this stature. Russell Ritenour from University of SouthCarolina, Prof. Manivannan from IIT Chennai, Prof. Manjunatha from IIT Kharagpur, Prof. SumanChakraborty from SMST IIT Kharagpur and many more.The Students arranged an Engineering Model Exhibition which was immensely appreciated by thedignitaries like Prof. Ajoy Ray, Director IIEST. Student Engineering Model ExhibitionThis exhibition organized by the students of JIS College of Engineering, was aimed at encouraginginnovative ideas of students on fields of mechanics, electronics and instrumentation. Models basedon various technical and scientific concepts which include Robotics, Sensor based programmes,Level detectors etc, are showcased by the participants. The idea was to inculcate the spirit of innovation to ensure the best possible ideas from the students. Real Time Working Models acrossvarious fields were prepared by the enthusiastic participants in this exhibition. The models invitedthe attention of the eminent guests and dignitaries like Prof. Ajoy K Ray, Director IIEST, Prof. SM Chatterjee Former Vice Chancellor BESU. Shibpur, Prof. Hiroyuki Yoshida of HarvardMedical School and Prof. E. Russel Ritenour of University of South Carolina. Prof. Ajoy Rayspecially mentioned the importance of student participation and involvement in such InternationalConferences so that they can showcase their talents and invite discussions from eminentdignitaries . Prof. Ray commented that such initiatives were vital to provide the students anopportunity to interact and exchange ideas in science and related technology.

The Cultural Program organized by the Students and Faculty members ofJIS College ofEngineering on 29/01/15 portrayed Unity in Diversity in our Country through musicals, danceperformances and recitations.

January, 2013 at Kalyani. The Conference comprised of a total of twelve different high-end engineering / technologicaltracks of research in which a total of 144submissions has been received from the reputedlead Universities and Institutions across thenation including BESU, Jadavpur University,Calcutta University, Manipal University, MumbaiUniversity, ISM Dhanbad, NIT-Jamshedpur,Assam University, NIT- Silchar, NIT-DGP, NIT-Berhampore, ISI Calcutta , IIT Kharagpur andetc.The entire event has attracted thorough mediacoverage by all leading newspapers andpublishing house including The Telegraph,Anandabazar, Ajkal, Pratidin, TOI and others.A total of 76 papers were presented during theConference and the proceeding of the Conference

was published by McGraw-Hill publication. The Conference reportedly reached the expectation to be aplatform to share ideas and identify future direction in the computation and communication influencedby demand driven and productive research so as to fulfill the socio-economic needs and desires.

3. ACTION PLAN FOR SUSTAINABILITY AFTER PROJECT PERIOD

The institution is fully committed in implementing this project, its specific objectives and

actions and in reaching the expected results. The Institution plan to sustain the growth

initiatives are as follows:

The Institution will establish Centres of Excellence. One such Centre of Excellence

has been announced in the area of Medical Electronics on the valedictory of the

International Conference ICAME-2015. There is possibility of opening up more

Centres of Excellence in “Aggregated Cloud platform for Unified Medical-care

Education and Network-centric utilities using M2M” and “Application of Machine

Intelligence in determining appropriate Pedagogy”. This will scale up interdisciplinary

researches in higher studies, produce Master Degree and Ph.D. scholars to sustain

the initiatives of TEQIP II.

The Institution will provide the necessary intellectual and material resources to sustain

all research and innovative activities even after the completion of the TEQIP II. The

achievements in publications and patent are to be extended to commercialization of

the product and technology transfer.

The Institution will take necessary measure of maintenance of equipments and facility

centers to be established during Phase-II. The Information and Communication

Technology based learning will be expanded and the teaching ambience with audio

visual teaching aids is to be facilitated for live classes.

The Institution is committed to continue all collaborative programmes even after the

project phase. The networking with Institute of national importance and thereby

participating in massive open online courses (MOOC), Quality improvement in

technological education (QEEE), Spoken tutorials, Design Lab and all other events

guided by National Mission on Education using Information and Communication

Technology (NMEICT) are to be intensely followed.

Faculty recruited under the new PG programs will be retained after the expiry of the

program and will be either allocated to the new projects available / assigned in

teaching learning process on their own domain of expertise.

Propagate Outcome based education and encourage Life-long Learning.

Designing Industry-friendly curriculum and encourage model based / activity based

teaching. Creating learning centric environment with student-friendly pedagogical

approach is aimed to be an expected outcome. All the reformation measures in this

direction will be embedded in the Systems.

After project closure, the institute will support the necessary operational cost to

assure quality academic services to the students.

It is predicted that TEQIP II grant will inject the self sustaining ability to the Institution

and regular accreditation process will ensure that the Institution will get rid of

weaknesses and transform those area to its strength. Also to be able to convert the

problems into opportunities.

The appraisal process for human resource development and calibration process for

system development will be strengthened.

Utilization of the institutes R&D facilities by industries on commercial basis.

Introduce short term courses against fees for industry professionals to acquire

specialized skills Utilizing laboratories for Industrial testing and providing hosing

venues or conducting national events from the experience earned through

autonomous Practice so as to increase IRG.
