A warm welcome to Amsterdam and the AV industry’s premier event – ISE.

This year the full diversity of the Midwich Group is represented at the show, including management from French AV business Sidev, Kern & Stelly, Germany’s leading AV business based in Hamburg, who will have their own stand at the show (stand 1-Q75) and Irish AV distributor Square One.

The first Integrated Systems Europe trade show was held in Geneva, Switzerland in February 2004. A joint venture between InfoComm International, CEDIA and NSCA, the show attracted 120 exhibitors and just under 3,500 attendees. In its 11th year, ISE 2014 saw a record-breaking 952 exhibitors and 51,003 attendees pass through the doors of the Amsterdam RAI. This further cements ISE position as the world’s fastest-growing and best-attended show in the professional AV and electronic systems space. This year, ISE will again occupy all 12 halls of the Amsterdam RAI and is set to attract over 1,000 exhibitors and more than 50,000 attendees from over 140 countries. Maintaining its reputation for connecting new technologies, companies and end-user industries, ISE presents an exciting show floor featuring over 1000 product launches as well as a packed programme full of education and events.

Migration to IP

You only need to look at the arrival at ISE of IT heavyweights Microsoft and Intel (Hall 9) this year to see how traditional IT and IP technologies are crossing over to the Pro AV audience. With video over IP becoming commonplace in universities and large organisations, the technology develops more opportunity for integrators.

TDSi access control systems and video camera analytics are just two other examples of IP connected products that work seamlessly with AV technology.

Cloud-based solutions also open up a natural spectrum of new opportunity. The lines between AV and IP have never been more blurred and Midwich have the specialists to help you unlock lucrative new revenue streams.

4K

The technology required to display ultra-high definition content is nothing new, but this new way of viewing, unlike the latest demise of 3D (again), looks like it’s here to stay. Shipments of 4K screens has increased over 400% in 2014* and, with the increase in 4K source material, this is a trend that is likely to become common place throughout 2015 and beyond.

Digital signage has seen 4K almost become the standard for commercial displays - LG’s 98-inch 4K panel was exclusively launched at the Midwich Technology Exposed event in September

The entire industry is turning its efforts towards 4K, with videowall processors, switching, cameras and displays all now having 4K options.

Midwich has been involved with the exciting, ultra-sharp resolution from the start and we are keen to support you in all aspects of your requirements, whether in commercial or consumer markets.

Collaborative meeting spaces

As we exit a particularly tough economic downturn, many businesses are looking to the future and are revamping their offices and boardrooms with collaborative technologies.

Audio, in particular, has seen rapid development in the office space sector and sound quality is, quite rightly, getting the focus it deserves. IP networked access control is now being used in more and more commercial premises, and interactive displays in the boardroom are quickly replacing dated interactive white boards or, worse still, flipcharts. Professional conferencing solutions are now available for all budgets, and Midwich has the experience, knowledge, and industry partnerships to support you on any project, however large.

It’s safe to say that laser has ushered in a new era for projection technology. Challenging the dominance of lamps in an increasing number of market segments, laser technology has been key to the development of the new era of solid-state light sources, eliminating the need for lamp replacement.

Projector light source history even has its own watershed - Before Casio and After Casio eras: Casio shocked the market in 2010 when it unveiled the first high-brightness mercury-free hybrid laser/LED light source at CES, Las Vegas.

“Laser within projection was key to Casio,” comments Phil Clark, head of projection at Casio. “Without laser, we couldn’t have invented that light source because laser was the boosting mechanism to get that high brightness, which previous LED solutions didn’t have.”

Soon thereafter, various combinations of true laser, LED-laser and laser-phosphor emerged to target various applications, aiming to drive down the costs associated with lamp technology while improving projector brightness and eco-friendliness.

The latest generation of laser projectors are future-proofed with HDBaseT and 4K capability. For an in-depth look at the latest solutions from NEC, Panasonic, Sony and Casio, speak to a Midwich specialist here at the show.

Laser projectors

Laser projection has shown steady growth as the long term cost and environmental benefits are being recognised by education and corporate sectors. As technology advances, and more manufacturers embrace solid state projection, we expect this trend to continue throughout 2015.

A laser projector is defined as a projector where all the light energy comes from lasers. This includes projectors with RGB lasers and blue lasers driving phosphors.
