There’s a reason why the first thing people ask you when you arrive home from travelling is ‘how was your trip?’ It’s because we all understand that travelling has the power to change us, to excite us and enrich our lives in so many ways.

at Inspiring Journeys, we believe travel has the ability to transform you – providing you with the opportunity to learn, discover, explore, experience and of course, to relax.

We understand that it’s not just about the places you go, it’s also about the people you go with, the experiences you share, the memories you create together and the stories you write along the way. so we aim to do things a little differently around here so that you’ll come back different, effected and inspired.

We strike the perfect balance between freedom from the stress of planning your journey and just enough flexibility for you to shape your journey so that it suits you down to a tee. after all, it’s you who’ll write your own incredible stories with a little bit of help from us.

everyone has a story, we’d love you to start your next chapter with InspIrIng Journeys.

Sustainable Travel

The TreadRight FoundationSustaining the destinations we visit is of great importance to us at Inspiring Journeys. We are part of a joint initiative by The Travel Corporation family of brands called TreadRight; a not-for-profit organisation working to ensure the environment and communities we explore remain vibrant for future generations.

TreadRight is The Travel Corporation’s hub for all corporate social responsibility efforts and manages a long-standing grants program that benefits sustainable tourism projects. To date TreadRight has donated more the USD1.5 million to projects worldwide and encourages industry best practice through our support for the World Travel & Tourism Council’s Tourism for Tomorrow Awards.

In Australia, Inspiring Journeys is contributing to the world’s leading research facility for Little Penguins which is located on Phillip Island in Victoria. With a grant of $95,000 via the TreadRight Foundation, a new penguin weighbridge will monitor the health of the penguins and interpretive signs will be erected to help educate visitors about the local environment and this important penguin colony.

One project we’re particularly proud of in Australia is the Kimberley Sustainable Tourism Initiative. TreadRight has partnered with WWF (World Wildlife Fund) and the Kimberley Land Council to help protect local communities in the Kimberley, develop indigenous sustainable tourism – protecting the natural and cultural environment and supporting local indigenous communities.

Our CompanyWe’re continually working to reduce the impact of our everyday activities by minimising our waste, energy use and paper consumption in our company offices. And we also give back to the local communities in which we operate, by giving every staff member the opportunity to spend two working days a year volunteering for an approved charity of their choice – all on company time.

DefinitionNo matter how you define it, a journey is a very personal thing.

journey [jour’ney] [jurnee] n. 1. trip somewhere: a trip or expedition from one place to another 2. process of development: a gradual passing from one state to another regarded as more advanced, e.g. from innocence to mature awareness – a spiritual journey

Your JourneyAn inspiring journey will take you places you never knew existed. We offer a variety of inspiring journeys that travel throughout Australia and New Zealand where you can choose the locations and durations that best suit your interests and available time, and choose your optional activities.

Small GroupWhen you start your inspiring journey, you’ll be welcomed into a small group of on average 12-16 like-minded travellers. Travelling in a smaller group not only allows our Journey Leaders to provide you with a more personalised service, it also means that we can take you to different areas and offer you different kinds of experiences and options on your itinerary, that may not otherwise be possible in a larger group.

ConnectingIsn’t it funny how when we travel, our ability to connect with people, places, cultures and environments is heightened? Sometimes we all need to just stop and smell the roses and when we do we’ll find and feel great things like exhilaration, awe, fulfilment, beauty, inspiration, curiosity and more. Where you go, what you do and who you are with sets a foundation for creating great memories and experiences. After all, it’s not just the places you go; it’s also the people you are with when you go.

FriendshipsWhile it may sound clichéd, friendships always blossom on an inspiring journey. You’ll have plenty of time to strengthen existing friendships as well as the opportunity to get to know your fellow travellers, socialise and start new ones. On an inspiring journey there are so many things to see and do; it’s great to have someone to share it with.

PerspectiveLet’s face it, exploring is good for us. One of the great things about travelling is that it helps you gain perspective. You travel to new and exciting places, meet new people, immerse yourself in cultures different to your own and this gives you time to reflect, to contemplate, to gain an appreciation for what you have and to gain……..perspective.

It’s amazing the little things you notice. And the big things you forget…

Your Stories The author in youEveryone loves a good story and we all have incredible stories to tell about what happened to us when we were travelling. That’s another great thing about travelling: it’s amazing what sticks with you and what you remember years later. All it takes is an image, a sound, a song, a mention of a word or place and the memories come flooding back.

At Inspiring Journeys we liken your trip with us to writing your own incredible story and…. you’re the author. We encourage you to tap into your inner creativity (yes we all have some whether hidden or plain to see) and we guarantee our itineraries will provide the inspiration to get your creative juices flowing.

Creating momentsNo one does this for you, they happen naturally and sometimes when you least expect them. Our memories are really a collection of moments. The fantastic locations you travel to, the activities you experience and the people you’re with help create defining moments that you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

At Inspiring Journeys we like to think of ourselves as a facilitator of moments – helping you connect with people, places, cultures and environments and allowing for inspiration to work its magic.

Cultural immersionMany of us dream of one day giving up our day job and instead spending our time travelling the world immersing ourselves in the different cultures of many countries.

While it will always remain a dream for most, there’s definitely something to be said for getting involved, getting your hands dirty and experiencing things first hand. It’s one thing to see something or hear someone talk about it, it’s another to try it for yourself!

At Inspiring Journeys pure observation is not what we do, nor do we offer ‘manufactured experiences’. Instead, we only do real, fascinating, engaging and immersive experiences that you’ll remember.

Growth and fulfilmentYou only get one life, so why not live it. We believe that when you’ve completed an inspiring journey, you do come back different. In fact, we guarantee that the person that returns from an inspiring journey is an improved and evolved version of the person you were before you left.

We’ve specifically designed itineraries, highlights and optional activities that have the goal of opening your mind to the world around you – you learn something every day if you pay attention.

Your Experiences Try new thingsThere’s always a first for everything.

At Inspiring Journeys, we’d like you to experience a cross section of the new, the exciting, the interesting and the enriching on our travels together. This is why our itinerary highlights and options have been grouped to cover a number of areas. These include:

Discovery Discovery involves experiencing wide open and expansive areas where you’re able to see the sheer scale of a natural wonder. This could include jumping on a scenic aeroplane flight, taking a helicopter ride, cruising down a river, travelling by train or seeing the outback by 4WD. Discovery allows you to be observational, sit back and take it all in.

Exploration Exploration on the other hand is much more individually focused and active, allowing you to get your feet wet and get in touch with your surroundings. This could include going on a bush walk, hiking through a rainforest, riding a bicycle, taking to the water and canoeing or kayaking down a river.

Learn by doingLearning by doing will take your inspiring journey to another level. There are a number of different types of activities that fall within this area. It could include activities that are culturally immersive such as experiencing life on a cattle station, learning how to find bush tucker or engaging in the purely creative such as drawing, painting, photography and crafts. There are also more adventurous activities like horse riding, taking a camel ride and white water rafting or other “hands on” type activities that could include learning how to throw a boomerang and even appreciate wine.

Relaxation Everyone needs some down time or time to wind down. Relaxing activities could include taking a walk along the beach, going for a swim, maybe a massage, activities like bird watching and whale watching or just taking the time to relax with dinner and drinks with great friends.

Authentic We pride ourselves in the experiences we offer. We continually strive to seek out new and real experiences for our travellers and we work closely with local communities to ensure that we can provide the most authentic experience possible for you.

‘The world is a book and those who do not travel only read a page.’ saint augustine

Your ChoicesOpportunities for customisationWe understand that you’d like us to take the hassle out of planning but at the same time also provide you with the flexibility to shape your journey. Inspiring Journeys offers you the opportunity to customise your journey in the following ways:

Destinations Choose your destination. We offer a variety of inspiring journeys that travel to various parts of Australia – from the Top End to the Red Centre and Tasmania. And in New Zealand from the Bay of Islands in the North, to Stewart Island in the South.

Length of Journey Choose the length of your journey that best suits your available time. Inspiring journeys range from between 3 and 13 days. Naturally, in most instances the longer journeys cover multiple destinations.

Free-time Inspiring Journeys understands that often you’d like to have a bit of time to yourself and for this reason we offer a slower paced itinerary with time set aside as free time when you can choose what you’d like to do.

Optional Activities An Inspiring Journeys itinerary has been designed in a way that allows you to experience a cross section of what each destination has to offer. Throughout your journey, we also provide a number of optional activities for you to choose from, depending on what kind of mood you’re in and how adventurous you’re feeling on the day. Our optional activities have been grouped into four areas. Examples of the kinds of activities within each area include:

– Discovery: Taking a scenic flight or going on a sunset cruise.

– Exploration: Joining a guided bushwalk, kayaking down the waterways or snorkelling in crystal clear rock pools.

– Learn by doing: Going horse riding, joining an Aboriginal culture tour, or taking a bush tucker tour.

– Relaxation: Spoiling yourself with a spa treatment or massage, taking a catamaran cruise to whale watch, taking a swim or stroll along the beach and relaxing at the resort.

AdditionsThroughout the year, we’re always looking for ways to improve our itineraries so that you have a real choice when it comes to optional activities. For the most up-to-date itineraries, be sure to keep tabs on our website for the latest information.

Your ComfortAccommodationOn an inspiring journey, you’ll be staying in hand picked accommodation that’s situated in both beautiful and unique locations where there is a real sense of connection between nature and the destination, like Cradle Mountain Lodge and Te Waonui Forest Retreat.

Accommodation will vary from cabins and private safari quarters, to lodges and hotels depending on the location. In some very remote areas where accommodation options are limited, the accommodation standard may be slightly lower but nonetheless we believe the quality of the experience and the remoteness of the destination far outweighs any material comforts.

MealsYour meals on an inspiring journey are sourced fresh so that you get the best of the local produce and take advantage of the various influences, tastes and flavours of the location. We guarantee you’ll experience localised, innovative menus and things you’ve never tried before.

All breakfasts are included, as are some lunches and most dinners. While many evening meals are included, we understand that on occasion you may prefer to seek out a local restaurant. Whether it’s an intimate dinner for two or a casual get together with a small group of old or new found friends, there’ll be free time in the evening for you to relax and delight in new food experiences away from the group.

During your inspiring journey you’ll enjoy a variety of quality dining experiences from BBQs, picnics and buffets to à la carte dining and special highlight dinners.

Keep a special eye out for our Highlight Dinners, which are also included.

TravellingInspiring Journeys uses All Terrain 4WD Mercedes Benz vehicles that have been specifically designed to access areas that larger coaches can’t. This means we’re able to offer a greater choice of itineraries made possible by being able to take you to parts of the country that are inaccessible to others.

Our air conditioned vehicles are luxuriously fitted with superior leg room, comfortable and reclining seats with footrests, large panoramic tinted windows for viewing, an onboard restroom and state-of-the art technology, including road cams, video monitors, DVD player and GPS and PA systems. There are also some creature comforts you’re bound to enjoy while you’re on the road, including complimentary on board refreshments and a mini-library.

Day 1 Litchfield National Park – Mary RiverFirst things first, it’s time to meet your Journey Leader and your fellow travellers before we head south from Darwin along the Stuart Highway to Litchfield National Park. While you’re here you’ll visit two of the famous falls within the park, starting with a relaxing dip at Wangi Falls (seasonal), a sacred site that is used by local Aboriginal women. If you’re feeling active, grab your walking shoes and explore the surrounding areas on a moderately graded, 1.6km bushwalk up rock stairs taking you through lush monsoonal rainforest and behind the falls. Keep an eye out for the wildlife that’s common to the area like the agile wallaby, flying foxes and the dingo.

We’ll drive up the escarpment to get a fantastic view of Florence Falls, a spectacular waterhole surrounded by monsoon forest, and then take a short walk down to see the falls and go for a cool and refreshing swim in the natural waterhole. You’ll have time to just kick back and relax in the clear natural rock pool and let the gentle flow of water cascade over you. We’re then on to the Meridian Termite Mounds where you’ll see literally hundreds of distinctive mounds standing up to 2 metres high before we refuel with a picnic lunch in Litchfield.

Later, we’ll take the off-road Marrakai Track cross-country (seasonal). You’ll see floodplains and cattle stations en route before we arrive at Mary River, where you’ll take a stunning sunset cruise through the picturesque wetlands. See a multitude of bird species, such as the Jabiru, White Breasted Sea Eagle and Kingfisher. You might even spot dingoes and wallabies, plus there are crocodiles – this area has the world’s highest crocodile population density.

Following your cruise you’ll transfer to amazing Wildman Wilderness Lodge. Situated in the gorgeous Mary River Wetlands, the property seamlessly combines comfort and chic with the beauty of the surrounding landscape. You’ll stay in stylishly appointed safari quarters and soak up the surrounding wilderness views from your private deck.

Accommodation: Wildman Wilderness Lodge Included meals: L & D

Day 2 Mary River – Kakadu National ParkWe’re off to Australia’s largest National Park – Kakadu. World Heritage listed, as both a cultural and natural sanctuary, Kakadu National Park is an Australian icon. Pending wet weather and road conditions we’ll turn onto the Old Jim Jim Road, a rugged and spectacular 4WD track, then cross the South Alligator River.

Along the way, we’ll stop to take in the majestic beauty of Gunlom, located on Waterfall Creek in World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. It is the magical combination of waterfall, shady gums and serene plunge pool. A steep climb to the top of the waterfall provides sweeping views of the southern-most parts of Kakadu National Park, while you enjoy a relaxing dip in the crystal clear pools.

You’ll visit Nourlangie Rock, famed for its well-preserved Aboriginal rock art, some of which is believed to date back at least 20,000 years. You’ll also hear first-hand and in detail, an interpretation of the art and the rich Aboriginal culture as you explore the various outdoor ‘galleries’.

This evening, you’ll stay in the indigenous-owned, Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn. Relax in your room’s private courtyard or balcony, unwind with a drink in the restaurant and bar or

Day 1 Kata Tjuta (the Olgas)This afternoon you’ll meet your Journey Leader and fellow travellers and then take a short drive to the entry of Uluru – Kata Tjuta National Park. Having lived on and looked after the Uluru and Kata Tjuta region for tens of thousands of years, the Anangu (or traditional owners), have a strong connection with this land. We’ll learn about Tjukurpa, the history, knowledge, religion, morality and law of the Aboriginal people and their ancestors.

Travelling to the domes of Kata Tjuta, you’ll join your Journey Leader for an informative guided walk through Walpa Gorge. The large, steep dome-like formations of Kata Tjuta are amazing to walk through and have great cultural significance for the Anangu people. As the sun sets, you’ll see spectacular changing colours over Uluru from the prime sunset viewing area. Tonight, choose from a range of restaurants in Yulara.

Accommodation: Desert Gardens Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort

Day 2 Uluru (Ayers Rock) – Kings CanyonYou’ll start the day with an impressive sunrise over Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) and Uluru (Ayers Rock) from the fantastic Kata Tjuta dune viewing area. From here it’s back to the resort for breakfast and then you’re off to the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre for an insight to the history of the local Anangu People. Then it’s time to get oriented with Uluru (Ayers Rock) on a drive around the ancient monolith, listening to your Journey Leader’s insights. Stopping, you’ll take a walk around the base of Uluru, where you’ll hear timeless stories, see rock art, and visit Mutitjulu Waterhole, an important water source for the Aboriginal people and animals in the area.

As the heat of the day begins to approach, we’ll head up the Luritja Road towards Kings Canyon and take in views of the ‘forgotten wonder’ of Central Australia – Atila (Mt. Conner). We’ll make a stop at Kings Creek Station. Established in 1982 by Lyn and Ian Conway, the station was originally vacant crown land and covers an area of 1,800 square kilometres. It runs cattle and is the largest exporter of wild camels in Australia. Later, travel a short distance to Kings Canyon Resort, your evening night stop.

Accommodation: Kings Canyon ResortIncluded meals: B & D

Day 3 Kings Canyon – Glen HelenPerfect for observing the changing colours of the landscape, today we’re off on a sunrise 6km Rim Walk exploration of the spectacular Kings Canyon. As we venture around the rim, highlights include the domed ‘Lost City’, a stop at Cotterill’s Lookout and the luscious ‘Garden of Eden’. If you’d prefer a more relaxed walk we also offer an optional Creek Walk. Afterwards we’re off the beaten track, travelling along the Mereenie Loop.

We stop at Jump-up Lookout, overlooking the George Gill Range, before our picnic lunch at Gosse Bluff. Tnorala Conservation Reserve reveals a place of great cultural significance to the Western Arrernte Aboriginal people and tonight’s stop is Glen Helen, situated on the western end of the spectacular West MacDonnell Ranges, a wonderful chance to enjoy the beautiful outback in this rustic setting.
