A word from President Patty.....

Hot Days of Summer….

….are with us NOW and there are lots of activities to keep your “fun quota” high on the register!!! Check out the newsletter AND

the website....enjoy what your fellow members have planned for us!

There are still many opportunities for everyone to pitch in & help on some upcoming events. So, even if you have not signed up to help,

check out the “happenings” & contact the chairperson to see if maybe help is needed.

Many hands make the work easier & FUN!

Thanks to all of you for your patience & understanding @ the July 1st meeting. It was hot & noisy at Fargo’s, but that was the closest place to meet on short notice. Hal had a big service that night. He

did offer to move chairs, tables & such to his back room, but Fargo’s seemed the better option for him AND for us, considering

parking.

The August meeting will be @ Culver’s on Lake Ave…more info in this newsletter. We will be eating & having the meeting there to thank

Culver’s for their generous sponsorship at the convention! They had asked if we would be willing to bring our Vettes & “pose”

them for a picture that they could hang in the restaurant. We will have reserved parking right in front for those who bring the

Vettes (parking out back for the metal cars). We will take pics with & without owners by the Vettes. Rob will make prints available

@ his costs if you want copies. This could be another “hectic” meeting night, so please bear with us & be curious when others are

speaking.

That’s all for now folks….happy heat waves!

NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM In a letter from the National Corvette Museum, dated June 3, 2010, I was appointed the Ambassador for the Colorado Springs Corvette Club (CSCC). It is an honor and a privilege to be nominated by the CSCC and appointed by the NCM. An Ambassador is to provide Corvette clubs and enthusiast two-way communication to the NCM. The Ambassador’s mission is to act as the Museum’s representative to promote and solicit support for the NCM through promotional activities and encourage Corvette enthusiasts to join the Museum. The Ambassador is the voice of the corvette club, communicating ideas and suggestions to the NCM. An Ambassador must be a mem-ber of the NCM. I became a Senior Individual Member when this membership category was created in 2006; previously I was an Individual member. An Ambassador must earn points each year (July 1 through June 30) to maintain active status and submit a worksheet by the end of July detailing the points accumulated from various activities outlined in the Ambassadors’ manual. Hopefully, I can achieve the required 50 points with your support. As your Ambassador, it is my intention to put the interests of the CSCC first and the NCM’s second: hopefully both interests will be the same. The CSCC board asked that I provide news of the Museum in the monthly Vette Set newsletter as the method to disseminate NCM information. The Museum sends weekly e-mails to each Ambassador. I will summarize the information for each newsletter. If you want me to submit ideas or concerns to the NCM, please send me an e-mail ([email protected]), or see me at the monthly meeting and I will convey this to the NCM contact. Currently I have informational brochures on Membership, the Brick Program, Museum Delivery Program for new corvette purchases, and general information about the NCM. I also have $10 raffle tickets for sale for the September 4, 2010 drawing for a 2011 black Corvette convertible. The raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the CSCC’s August 1 Hill Climb, Carshows, and Picnic and also at the August 5 monthly meeting. I must turn in the tickets and monies by August 15. I do earn Ambassador points through raffle ticket sales. I have sold some tickets and would like to sell a win-ning ticket to a CSCC member. The brochures will also be available on the August 1 and 5 dates. The NCM Insurance Agency currently provides coverage for special events, cruise-ins, car shows, scenic road tours and well as coverage for board member and officers of the corvette club. The NCM also offers individuals High Performance Driving Schools physical damage coverage, picking up where the individual’s standard auto policy ends. Contact Adam Boca (NCM Insurance Agent) toll free, at 877-678-7626 or [email protected]. I earn Ambassador points if you get a quote from Adam. For those of you that have not visited the NCM, it is an experience to be enjoyed by all corvette enthusiasts. I encourage each one of you to visit the Museum and become a member. There are various levels of membership. An individual mem-bership is $50 and is tax deductible. I attend at least one event each year. In 2010, I will be attending the Z06 bash; last year I attend a Corvette Action Center event in June. Next year I intend to attend the Labor Day Hall Of Fame event. Hope to see you at the Hill Climb and/or August meeting. Barrett Benson, CSCC Ambassador.

GET TO KNOW YOUR FELLOW MEMBERS . How long have you been a CSCC member? 5 years. What Corvette do you currently own now? A 2008, recently purchased. In the past? A 2001. Marital Status? Been married 31 years as of June this year. Where are you from? Tom grew up in the Fountain area. He was born in Nebraska, but moved here at 6 months old. Vicki is from Cary, Illinois. She came out to go to college at University of Northern Colorado. How did you meet? They met on a houseboat trip at Lake Powell. Vicki worked with Tom’s cousin and one day while having some adult bev-erages at Jose Muldoon’s after work they came up with the idea of getting a houseboat. He said I’ll get 6 people and you get 6 people. So they did and one of those people was Tom. At first Vicki fell in love with Tom’s Jeep. They even drove back to Colorado together from the houseboat trip. Tom says he first had to make sure Vicki was com-patible for all seasons as far as outdoor activities went. Well….6 months later they were married. ( I guess he couldn’t wait for all of the seasons!) Employment? Tom is an engineer and has worked for various compa-nies the past 35 years. He currently works for WestRail, designing and building railroad equipment. Vicki taught math at the middle school and high school level for 20 years. Then she was a school counselor for 10 years. She is semi-retired and currently goes around the country and gives prep work-shops for students taking the ACT and SAT tests. Any kids? They have one son, Mark, who is 24 years old. He graduated from CU and currently lives in Boulder and works part time. Pets? None Favorite club activity? Tom says his are the autocrosses and road trips. Vicki says hers are the Christmas baskets for charity, the social events, and the annual Pagosa Springs trips. Favorite CSCC memory? The Pagosa Springs trips and the Black Hills Classic in Spearfish. Hobbies? They both enjoy golfing and skiing. Tom is into cars and Vicki loves to read.

What is your dream Corvette? The one they just bought (2008). What was the best vacation you ever took? They both agree that their fa-vorite trip was an 8 day raft trip at middle fork of the Salmon River in Idaho. This is “the river of no return”. They went with another couple and really enjoyed the friendship and beautiful scenery. Anything else you would like to add? They both really get a personal sense of satisfaction in the Christmas baskets that the club donates to needy families every year. Also helping out our charity, Mission Medical, is very satisfying as well. They have fun in the club and think it’s great that people can laugh at themselves and just have a good time. Thanks Vicki and Tom for the interview.
