Removal 4. Remove the transmission fluid pan.

1 Remove the transmission fluid pan.1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a 2 Remove and discard the transmission fluid

hoist. For additional information, refer to pan gasket.Section 100-02.

2. NOTE: If equipped, the transmission servo heatshield needs to be unclipped from the fluid panrail and positioned out of the way for fluid panremoval.

If equipped, loosen the nut and position theheat shield out of the way.

5. Remove and discard the transmission fluidfilter.

1 Remove the transmission fluid filter screw.

2 Remove the transmission fluid filter.

3. Drain transmission fluid.

• Remove all the transmission fluid panscrews except for two in the front. Loosenthe two front transmission fluid pan screws.Pry the rear of the transmission fluid pandown and allow fluid to drain. After fluid isdrained, remove the front two transmissionfluid pan screws.

6. Unclip main control valve body wire harness.

• Lift up on wire harness guide and protectorand disengage the retaining pins from thesolenoid clamps.

9. Remove the low/reverse servo.

1 Remove the low/reverse servo cover screws.

2 Remove the low/reverse band servo coverand gasket. Discard the low/reverse servoseparator plate cover gasket.

7. Disconnect the six solenoid electricalconnectors.

1 Disconnect the SSA, SSB, SSC and SSDelectrical connectors.

2 Disconnect the torque converter clutch(TCC) solenoid electrical connector.

3 Disconnect the electronic pressure control(EPC) solenoid electrical connector.

10. Remove the low/reverse band servo piston androd.

8. Remove the manual control valve detent leverspring.

1 Remove the manual control valve detentlever spring screw.

2 Remove the manual control valve detentlever spring.

11. CAUTION: Support the main controlvalve body.

Do not remove the two (gold) screws specified.

2. Position the main control valve body, using thetwo special tools as a guide.

12. CAUTION: Support the main controlvalve body.

Remove the screws.

3. NOTE: The main control valve body screwswill be tightened in later steps.

Loosely install four M6 x 45 mm (1.8 in)screws.

13. Remove the main control valve body.

Installation

1. Install the special tool into the transmissioncase.

8. Tighten the main control valve body screws inthe sequence shown.

9. Rotate the manual lever into the NEUTRAL 11. Install the low/reverse band servo piston andposition. rod.

10. Install the manual control valve detent leverspring.

12. Install the low/reverse band servo cover.

1 Install the low/reverse band servo cover andgasket.

2 Loosely install the low/reverse servo pistoncover screws.

15. CAUTION: Excessive pressure maybreak the locating pins.

17. Install the transmission fluid pan. 19. If equipped, position the servo heat shield overthe servos and clip it to the pan rail.1 Position a new transmission fluid pan gasket

on the transmission fluid pan.

2 Install and align the transmission fluid pan.

20. NOTE: Start with a minimum of 3.7 liters (4quarts) clean automatic transmission fluid.

Fill transmission with clean automatic18. Tighten the transmission fluid pan screws.transmission fluid to the correct fluid level.
