I absolutely cannot believe that November is gone. What a great month! on the 11th, our Veteran’s day program was wonderful. our veterans here at Kings manor and their families enjoyed a great steak dinner together in the Lamar room. afterwards, we had an impressive program with the assistance of the r.o.T.c. We are very blessed to have such wonderful young men and women in our community. It is always an honor to be involved in making sure our veterans know how much they mean to us. In November, we also worked on decorating a christmas tree for senior citizens. I would like to thank all the residents that worked many hours on making this hap-pen. I could not have done it with-out you. on the 18th, residents from the manor and Westgate took the grand tour at senior citizens to view the trees. What a wonderful time we all had! on the 24th, we had our annual cake auction and all I can say is wow, how wonder-ful the event was! I can never say enough about this community. We are truly blessed. The following day, the Lamar room was set up to prepare for a wonderful Thanksgiv-ing feast with family and friends. I would like to thank all the residents and staff who helped. The Thanks-giving meal was wonderful and as usual, the residents, guest and fam-ilies truly enjoyed their day. With december here and all the fall decorations being boxed up and put away for another year, the christmas decorations are waiting to be on display for all the upcom-ing events. Please check your cal-endar for all the special occasions that are just around the corner. We

have programs provided by the churches, schools and several or-ganizations in the community that we look forward to every year. We appreciate and thank everyone in advance for all that you do to make our christmas a great one. I have decided to try something new this year for our Manor Christmas Party. With the weather able to change at the drop of the hat here in the Texas Panhandle, we will be having a Christmas Lunch and party on the 17th at 12:00 noon in the Lamar room. all families and friends are welcome to at-tend. our menu will be a variety of homemade soups and all the trim-mings, with games and music after the meal. I look forward to see-ing everyone. also don’t forget to make your reservations for Christ-mas Dinner in the Lamar Room Christmas Day at noon. The price is $10.00 each and children under 5 are free. To ensure accommoda-tions, please call 364-0661 to make reservations by 5:00 p.m. monday, december 21, 2015. I hope every-one has a blessed and safe christ-mas.

Westgate News december is here, and many special events are planned. school children will come to sing for us throughout the month, and christmas programs and parties will take place. special events scheduled are: 12/1--decorating the dining room, stations, and the activity room; 12/2--a christmas sing-a-long; 12/3—a birthday party; 12/8--holiday gift wrapping; 2/12--methodist church program;

12/16--resident christmas party; 12/23—eggnog & fruit cake; 12/31--New Year’s eve party; and hot chocolate parties every Thursday. The Westgate resident christmas dinner Party with families will take place in the Lamar room december 16th @ 12:00 p.m. King’s manor will provide the meal for residents and 2 guests. for reservations, please call the front office or W.G. activity office no later than Tuesday december 8, 2015. for anyone interested in adopting a resident for this christmas season, the angel tags will be on the bulletin board in the 400 hall. Adopt an Angel is a way we make sure all residents have a gift this year under the tree. all gifts must be turned in to the activity office by friday, december 11th, for their party december 16th. on the backs of the angels are the residents’ sizes and their gender. Please make sure the angel tags are tied to the gift bags. Gift bags are much easier for the residents to open. We truly appreciate everyone for their generosity and charity in adopting residents for christmas. Let us give birth to Jesus in our hearts this season and all year round. And while they were there, the time came for the Baby to be born; she gave birth to her Child, a son. She wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:6-7

Wishing everyone a merry christmas & Happy New Year!

Samaritan Hospice NewsThis article is going to explore the topic of when you become the “Par-ent of your Parents” and some of the issues that will have to be faced. One of the first questions that you need to ask yourself is how you can tell when your parents need assis-tance. This can be an issue, espe-cially if you are like most of us that do not live in the same place where we were raised. We grew up and found ourselves out in the world and it required us to move away, whether it was fifty miles or clear across the nation. Then again, you may still live in the same town with your parents and that will help with the many issues that will occur.

I’m one of the ones that woke up as I was in the middle of my career, raising my family, working on an mba, and yet I needed to see what was really going on with mom and dad. The day did come when my parents were no longer in their mid-sixty’s, they were not getting around like they once did and then their health began to change. There came a point when additional time was needed to be spent checking on my parents. This allowed me to observe their actions and pat-terns and see what was going on. I called once or twice a week, made weekend trips, along with stay-ing in touch with their neighbors, friends, social groups that they had been involved with and checking with their physicians. These were all great sources to get the real pic-ture. I did experience hearing from my dad that, “everything is good and I’m doing great”. Then the call came from his former business as-sociates that everybody in town watches out for the 2003 silver buick as it moves up the street. The

day came when his eye doctor said he could no longer drive, even dur-ing day light. There I was, remov-ing the car keys, and from his view point, his freedom. He did agree after much discussion to move into a nursing facility.

recently, I was involved in a meet-ing with family members to discuss and make the decision to move my ninety-one year old father-in-law into an assisted living facility. This occurred because the rN from the home health agency had noticed his confusion was advancing and his safety was in question. I can say that I have been very blessed to have siblings that were very agree-able to all the issues that had to be worked through with our parents. It was not easy and I will not say we got it all right, but we did the best we could to be the “Parent to our Parents”.

I would like to recommend a guide to “Parenting your Parents”. It’s entitled, “When roles reverse” by Jim comer who resides in austin. He went through many things with his aging parents and wrote about the complete process and much of what can happen.

If you have questions about home care or hospice services for your-self or a loved one, feel free to give us a call at 806-363-6085 or drop by the office at 426 N. Main St. suite “e” in The atrium.

It matches so well, it looks as if it has been there all the time and it works perfectly. What a blessing it is to those of us who can’t do steps! God bless You scott!
