In 2006 we were asked by one of our funders,

the Bridge NDC (New Deal for

Communities) …

to provide the reasons schools gave our project for seeing

their children. These included…

•Anxiety

•Bereavement

•Rage at home and in the play ground

•Mother’s emotional state affecting child

•Threats of self-harm

•Exclusion from school

•Withdrawal symptoms

• Low self-esteem

• Behavioural problems

• Domestic violence

• Mother’s suicide

• Issues with anger

• Parents’ relationship breakdown

• Chaotic home life

• Eating problems

•Changes in family structure

• Sexualised behaviour

• Peer difficulties

• Aggressive behaviour

These are only some of the challenges our children continue to

face here in Haringey.

Hundreds of children have passed through the FNH Counselling Project since it started in 2002.Some of them now share

their experiences.

“I used to be nervous and twitchy, but I ‘m fine now.”

“Counselling service in school is a good thing. It helps improve your

confidence and behaviour.”

One child was considered by staff and children at his school, to go

‘berserk’ when he lost his temper.

After counselling, he said….

“I am now in control of my temper”

“I like to be a helperbecause I can be sensible”

and…

“I like it because it is fun, it makes

me take my mind off things.”

others say…

“I am happy, coz when I have problems,

she helps me sort them out”

“She was nice to me and listened to me.

I now enjoy school more as I have seen an improvement in me.

Counselling… helps improveyour confidence… behaviour

(and) school work.”

“I used to be angry.I am beginning to feel better.”

“I wasn’t very nice to people. I didn’t have any friends. I am a nicer person now”

It made me more confident at school and now I am happy

to be in secondary school.

and from class teachers….

I have certainly noticed a hugeimprovement in both his behaviourand attainment. He has improved by at least one whole level in both

reading and maths.

I cannot stress how important the counselling is and without it I feel that she would still be

that timid, anxious child.

and also…

The FNH Counselling Project is only one of a host of interventions

being made by dedicated professionals in the lives

of Haringey children.

But we believe it is a projectthat continues to deliver substantialimprovements to the life chances of

those children. We hope you will continue to partner with us in this work.
