The Baade Blurb I thought that spring was in the air until I woke up this
morning to see snow and ice all over! Oh well, my
husband tells me that’s okay, more time to
psychologically prep for farming!
March has been an exciting month! On March 8, the
grades 3-8 students travelled to the Watrous Music
Festival to perform a variety of poems in the speech arts
category. This is an opportunity to work on reading
fluency and public speaking, both vital components of the
ELA program.
On March 16, the teachers and the students of Imperial
School had a chance to listen to a motivational, positive
anti-bullying speaker named Andy Thibodeau. He spoke
about the importance of caring for each other, whether it
be classmates, teachers, siblings or parents. He was
humorous with a very strong message. Thanks to the SRC
and SCC for providing the funds to make this positive
experience happen.
The School hosted its biennial carnival on March 17.
Everyone appeared to have a fantastic time. The Cake
walk, the Fishpond station, and the Bouncy house seemed
to be the most popular activities. Thanks to the staff for
working diligently to set up the various events. Each and
every member was responsible for a particular job, from
canteen to prizes, from golf putting to hockey shots, to
getting a pie in the face! Tyson Webster was the lucky
recipient to “pie the principal” - no hard feelings, Tyson!
To add to the festivities, there were helium balloons, face
painting, and a silent auction. Thank you to everyone who
donated items to the silent auction, and a big thanks to
the people who purchased them! I feel we had a great
attendance this year, along with some volunteer SCC
members. Thank you to Paul Gosselin, Ryan Kelly, Meghan
Stratton and Joann Mooney for helping at the Carnival.
Students are currently involved in the anonymous
OurSCHOOL survey. This allows grade 4-12 students the
opportunity to voice their concerns about school. Then in
turn, the Staff has a chance to address these student
concerns. Communication between students, teachers,
and parents is vital.
Speaking of communication, report cards for K-6 students
went out on March 11, and secondary reports will be sent
home on April 14. Parent–teacher interviews will occur on
April 21.
Looking at the happy faces of the students for some of
these March events, I can’t help but thank you for your
efforts as parents and community members in making
Imperial School a great place. The more we work
together, the better it is for our students. Enjoy the
Easter Break with your families, and we will see everyone
back at school on Monday, April 4!
Mrs. Baade
Cougar Athletic Report Spring has sprung, well I thought it had, but then Mother
Nature tricked us. I was excited to pull my golf clubs out
and get started for the 2016 season and then the snow
came back. With the coming of spring brings the last of
our school sports. These include badminton, spring golf,
and track and field.
Dodgeball intramurals have wrapped up in the gym. With
our busy March schedule regular league occurred, but
time ran out to have our finals. Thank you to all students
in grade 6-12 who come out at noon hours and get active.
Youth are supposed to get 60 minutes of physical activity
a day. Intramurals are just one way our school tries to
make this happen. After Easter we will begin a doubles
badminton tournament, followed by a floor hockey
tournament.
Junior and senior badminton programs are well
underway. Mrs. Busche is coaching the seniors and Ms.
Cantelon is coaching the juniors. Badminton schedules are
out, and games are scheduled.
I will be coaching track and field this year, along with Ms.
Nagy. Track is a passion of mine, and I encourage all
students to get involved. Practices will begin once it has
dried up outside.
On April 12, in conjunction with Anti-Bullying day, the
grade 7-12 PE program will be running a pancake
breakfast. For only $5, students and community members
will receive pancakes, sausages, juice or coffee. We will
not be taking pre-orders. The breakfast will be served
from 7:45- 8:45am. If any parents would like to help out
with cooking or clean up, please contact Mr. Doom at the
School. Students are expected to help out. This fundraiser
can be used towards students’ community service hours.
(Grade 10-12 require 20 hours and grade 7-9 require 10).
The funds raised from this breakfast will go toward PE
programming to help reduce students’ costs. These funds
will be ear-marked toward the charter bus rental from the
ski trip, swimming, golf and gymnastics trips. I am also
hoping to take students to watch the Saskatchewan Rush
Lacrosse team. We will run another fundraiser in May as
well.
Thank you all for your continued support. Have an
amazing Easter. Before we know it, May will be here, our
gymnasium upgrades will occur and we will be outside for
all physical education classes and extracurricular
activities.

Athletic Director Imperial Students Attend We Day
On March 2, students from grades 7-12 traveled by bus to
Saskatoon where they attended We Day. We Day is a
celebration of youth making a difference in their local and
global communities. This day offers young people the
tools and the inspiration to take social action, empower
others, and transform lives, including their own. While
attending, the students saw many performers and
empowering international people of great stature. A few
were: astronaut Chris Hadfield, Dr. Joyce Banda, Henry
Winkler, and Spencer West; however, there were a total
of 22 individuals. This is a great opportunity for the
students, and we hope we'll be going back next year, and
years to follow.
Miss. Emma Anderson
Music Festival On March 8, grades 3-8 were bussed to the Watrous
Music Festival. Congratulations to the Grade 3/4 class on
receiving a mark of 85% with their poems “Gorilla” and
“Things To Do Today”. Grade 5/6 performed “Yawn” and
“I’m the Single Most Wonderful Person I Know” and were
awarded 86%. The Grade 7/8 class recited “The Prairies
Where the Sky Begins” and “The Aliens Have Landed”,
with a mark of 86%. Congratulations to the Grade 7/8
class for being invited back to the final performance.
Even though they were unable to attend, the recognition
is always nice! The directors for Choral speaking were
Mrs. Van Damme, Mrs. Baade, and Ms. Danyluk. Great
job everyone!
Imperial High School band participated as well on
Wednesday, March 9. Students played selections from
“Grease” and “Harry Potter and A Half- Blood Prince”. It
was a great performing opportunity directed by Mr.
Osatiuk.

Listen, Participate, and Show Up
The Imperial SRC made an effort to keep students on their toes in the month of March. In the midst of the
month, the SRC launched a spirit week, which ran from March 15-18. Tuesday was Backwards Day, and
students were to wear their clothing items backwards. Wednesday was School Clothing Day, so students were
able to take the runway and show off their Imperial School Cougars gear. Thursday was, obviously, a day to
wear green. This was also St. Patrick’s Day, so not wearing green would simply be crazy! Shamrock shakes
were also made on Thursday, with peppermint patties and magic. The girls also tried to steal shamrocks from
the boys by getting them to talk. Friday was Flashback Friday, where students were able to show off their style
from any decade they so desired. On March 16, the SCC helped the SRC to bring Andy Thibodeau, an
inspirational speaker, to Imperial School. Andy gave his “Share Your Care” presentation to all students, so
everyone learned to “Listen, participate, and show up!” Andy stressed the need to get to know your school
community. Overall the month of March has been pretty kind to us, and April will surely be amazing as well.
Miss. Kennedy Lewis
The SRC will be hosting Midnight Madness on Thursday, April 14. This is a night of food, games, and fun for
students grade 7-12 from 3:30 pm-12:00 am. Parents will be required to pick up their child/children at
midnight or earlier. This activity will replace the annual wake-a-thon hosted by the SRC in previous years.
The cost of the evening is $15.
Carnival Fun
Thank you to all those who attended carnival, supported the many activities of
the evening, and donated product or Baking for the silent auction and cake
walk. This event is always a lot of fun. It brings the staff great joy, to not only see
the students, but also their families having so much fun!
SCC Report
Congratulations to the 46 students who entered the
January Reading Bee Challenge and read a combined total
of 27,874 minutes! $922.28 was raised from the
event and this money has been put back into the school
library to provide a wider range of literacy materials for all
ages. Particular thanks go to Georgie’s Place, Imperial
Garage and Long Lake Insurance for their monetary
support.
A huge thank you to family and friends who not only
supported the Reading Bee by sponsoring the students,
but also for their dedication in encouraging them to read
and recording their minutes. SCC was so impressed with
the students’ reading achievement that alongside the
Book Fair discount rewards given to all reading
participants, we also hosted a bonus prize of a lunchtime
chocolate fondue party. Thank you to Kathy Williams and
Heidi Sainsbury for volunteering to help with the party.
SCC’s primary role is to support student learning. The
Reading Bee was a positive way to encourage student
reading and reward their success.
