Where do I start, what a fantastic year we have had with
excellent achievements by our young people, our future
generation has made us very proud! Congratulations to you all!
Lots more opportunities to get involved in and benefit from this
Winter, with a few new projects such as a WW1 project, a
Punjabi Catering Enterprise and free training on offer in the new
year!

We are delighted to announce that 10 students sat GCSE Punjabi exams and they all passed with excellent results,
grades consisted of A*’s, A’s, B’s and a C. Congratulations to Gagandeep Singh Sachdeva, Harjeet Kaur, Sharon Kaur
Lassen, Karampreet Kaur, Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Amrinda Kaur Chahal, Manjraj Singh Chhokar, Jessica Kaur Grewal,
Sukhpreet Singh Poonian, Gupreet Singh Bains.
All of the young people were awarded certification and prizes for their achievement at the Awards Day on Sunday 14th
September. We would also like to thank Dyal Thandi for her professional tutoring, the
volunteer teachers for their hard work and of course parents for their commitment.
This years changes include paid teachers, regular teacher training, professional consul-
tancy to improve the school structure, a children’s accredited university programme and
an extra half an hour for interactive Sikh education. If you would like your children to ben-
efit from an extra language GCSE, learn about their roots and heritage and interact with
the other children from the community, then please enrol your children for the new term.
This is an excellent opportunity to boost much needed funds for key services which rely on community
support, The Punjabi School, New Building Project, Music Classes & Heritage Events. As of October 14th,
every £10 donation made on the website will be doubled with gift aid on top! All you have to do is:

‘SAINTS & SOLDIERS CROWN’
SCCYC’s Sikhs in World War I Project
This 1 year project will explore the involvement of Sikhs in
the first world war, with particular emphasis on the Turban;
research into how valued the Sikhs were at that time; share
findings with wider communities through an exhibition to
promote community cohesion. One of the famous quotes by Sir Winston Churchill,
“...British people are highly indebted and obliged to Sikhs for a long time”

The project involved a research heritage trip to the ‘Sikhs in World War One’
exhibition at The Brueni Gallery in London on 30th August, with attendance from 68
members of the community! Trip pictures below:

NORTHAMPTON SIKHI CAMP
This year’s annual Sikhi Camp took place on
Sunday 21st September and once again we were
graced with attendees from ‘Kaurs Corner’ and
‘Share Sikhi’.
Good feedback has been received from
inspirational and empowering talks, debates, Kirtan
Vichaar and they did an excellent job of raising and
advising on issues. We look forward to seeing them
again soon. Thank you to all of the volunteers for
their support and attendance.

Punjabi Pride Exhibition
A temporary exhibition will be created in the Gurdwara basement to complete this 2 year project. The exhibition will showcase the Punjabi
heritage work that young people and volunteers have created as well as artefacts, clothing, resource guides. There is quite a lot of work
required to create the exhibition, a work timetable is below, please do come along to help out:
Thursdays 6.00pm to 8.00pm: Young people and staff create permanent display materials and are planning the exhibition
Wednesday 29th October, 9.30am to 3.00pm: Holiday Club, young people will finalise recipes, project conclusions and label artefacts
Every Sunday in November, 9.00am to 12.30pm: Volunteers required to clear out basement, paint and carpet it, and display the work

1984 REMEMBERANCE RALLY
A coach full of Northampton community
members joined in with thousands of people
in the Sikh Freedom &1984 Rally which
took place in London on the 8th June2014.
The Rally takes place each year in remem-
brance of people who were attacked by the
Indian Army at the Golden Temple in 1984.
