Last Researched: 18/07/2014Scheme comprises the construction of 1650 houses and flats, a primary school and shops. Works include access, enabling, infrastructure, sewer system and landscaping.
Developers have completed a second public exhibition to showcase plans to build 2,900 new homes on a former Metropolitan Police site. The proposals include plans for new homes alongside four hectares of public space including a new “neighbourhood” park, as well as a primary school, health centre and supermarket. Redrow also wants to develop shops, restaurants and cafes in Colindale Avenue, and is considering making improvements to Colindale tube station, upgrading road junctions and new bus stops. In the first phase of the development they plan to build more than 500 homes, comprising of two, three and four bedroom flats and houses as well as apartments.

SMES FAILING TO WIN PUBLIC SECTOR CONTRACTSMore than 40% of constructionSMEs are failing to win nine outof ten public sector contractsand over half have seen theirsuccess rate fall when biddingfor public sector work over thepast five years, according to anew report by the Federation ofMaster Builders (FMB).
Improving public procurement forconstruction SMEs examines thebarriers facing small constructionfirms when attempting to engagewith the public sectorprocurement process, andoutlines a series ofrecommendations to tackle theproblems.
These include requiring allpublic sector clients to: usePAS 91 as the basis for theirconstruction pre-qualificationquestionnaires; review thelimitations they impose whenassessing the financialviability of SMEs attemptingto get on to a framework; anduse their regional on-lineportals to advertiseopportunities to buyers.
Brian Berry, Chief Executive ofthe FMB, said: “Public sectorconstruction contracts areworth more than £37bn peryear – almost 40% of allconstruction output – so it is

GOVERNMENT ARE URGED TO CONSIDER AREVIEW OF GREEN DEAL
In the light of two damningreports into the failures of theGreen Deal, the Governmenthas faced calls for urgentrevisions to the scheme.
Figures attributed to the CavityInsulation Guarantee Agencysuggest that cavity wallinstallations fell 97 per cent inApril 2013 compared with thesame month last year. Thefigures show that 1,138installations were completedlast month, down from 49,650in April 2012.
This comes in the wake of thefirst official review of GreenDeal and ECO by the Energy and
Climate Change SelectCommittee, in which it criticisedthe Government’s “confusion”and lack of "a clear idea of whatsuccess would look like" for theenergy efficiency schemes.”
Steven Heath, External AffairsDirector for Knauf Insulation,commented: “These reportsconfirm what the industry hasbeen warning about for the lastyear, that the complete lack ofany transition period betweenthe old CERT driven market andthe new order will decimate thecavity wall insulation industry.
“Our argument is that significant‘demand drivers’ are urgently
needed in order to createmomentum amongsthouseholders. Energy efficiencyrefurbishments must be madeattractive to all – and that meansdriving activity across housingstock and allowing consumers todecide if Green Deal is the rightroute for them. The cash backincentives currently in place areintended to drive the Green Dealalone but the figures published todate suggest it is not acompelling offer.
“Stopping the requirement for aGreen Deal provider signatureto access the cash backincentives, or building structuraldrivers like linking Stamp Dutyto the property’s energyefficiency, would deliver enoughactivity to allow the highlydeveloped supply chain builtaround CERT driven measuresto adjust to the new market.Otherwise, much of this ‘shovelready’ delivery infrastructurewill begin to disappear – aprocess that is alreadyhappening, as demonstrated bythe 5,000 job losses in theinsulation industry to date sincethe end of CERT and the demiseof pioneering Green Dealprovider Enact Energy,”
