Coverage analysis—network topology evolution

From 2009, the network topology has some evolution. With growing of users a

more and more new sites are deployed in recent years, and down-tilt of antenn

change the coverage.

Coverage analysis--antenna radiation pattern

The factors which can influence the network performance:

HBW, VBW and Gain

Mechanical tilt and electrical tilt can change the coverage area of antenna;

The engineering error, accuracy of electrical tilt will also influence the coverage.

Mechanical downtilt performance Electrical downtilt performance

As shown in below picture, when the mechanical tilt is too big (around 5 degree), the side edge

some extension. The effect of mechanical tilt is not same as the electrical tilt, that means whe

degree, increasing 1 degree E-tilt will not compensate exactly.

Coverage simulation in zero-tilt (fixed e-tilt 0 degree and m-tilt 0 degree) , in 5-

degree and m-tilt 5 degree) and in 10-tilt (fixed e-tilt 0 degree and m-tilt 10 degr

the coverage has been changed, and caused extension in side lobe when the m

increasing. The coverage will not follow expectation for optimization.

Conclusion and Suggestion

The radiation performance (pattern) of HW fixed 6 degree antenna (A9045180

parameters: ‘Side lobe suppression for first side lobe above horizon’ and ‘Front 

satisfy the requirement of datasheet.

With growing of users and network load, more and more new sites are deploy

and down-tilt of antennas is increased to change the coverage. The fixed down

suitable for the scenario where need deployed with large down-tilt, which

mechanical down-tilt. This situation will introduce an influence of coverage

vendors antenna. So suggestions for these scenarios: 

1, reduce mechanical tilt

2, reduce the height of antenna

3, replace the fixed tilt antenna with adjustable tilt antenna,e.g. A79451700v
