IEMC MUSTANG

“It was the best of mes; it was the worst of mes…” Okay, enough with the Charles

Dickens reference. Here is my story of how I acquired my “fraternal-twin” 2012 Mustangs. (And

there really is no “worst of mes” part.)

My first experience with Mustangs was in 1965 when I worked for a funeral home and

ambulance service in my home town of Li3le Falls, Min-

nesota. The funeral home had three business vehicles:

a Mustang, a Mercedes, and a Ford pickup. You can

guess which one I preferred--the Mustang, a 1965 blue

coupe with white interior. It had a 289 V-8 with auto-

mac transmission. I had fun driving it unl I enlisted in

the service in 1967.

Fast forward to the summer of 2015--Mark Lid-

beck invited me to a Wounded Warrior family event in

Moses

Lake.

He and several other club members caravanned

there for the event. While there, I was harassed

by said club members and by other people be-

cause I did not own a Mustang (I was just a pas-

senger). And the harassment connued unl I

got home. When I got home, Mark and I told my

wife about the event, I told her about the har-

assment, and she simply said, “Why don’t you go

out and buy one? Your birthday is coming up.”

‘Stang of the Month (cont.)

Shortly therea@er on a Sunday a@ernoon,

Mark Lidbeck, Ray Smith and I went looking for a

Mustang at Gus Johnson Ford. On the lot sat a

black 2012 GT with a 5.0 Coyote engine and 6-

speed automac transmission which had just ar-

rived the day before as a trade-in. I took it for a

test drive. It was smooth and delighDul; I was smil-

ing when I returned. Mark Lidbeck took it for a

test drive and you could hear the exhaust pipes a

block away. He, too, came back smiling. Ray Smith

took it for a test drive and you could hear those

pipes three blocks away. He came back with a big

grin on his face and said, “Buy it”--which I did that

very a@ernoon. But…I did not tell my wife.

I drove it home and put it in the shop and did not tell my wife for a week. I wanted her to find it by herself. But the

suspense was killing me, and I finally broke down and showed it to her. She was pleased be-

cause I got what I wanted and she loved the car. I started fixing it up and taking it to car shows,

where I had sff compeon from Mark Lidbeck and his black Shelby GT 350. Despite the com-

peon, my GT began winning trophies and plaques. I have had the engine and transmission

tuned by EPC Racing of Spokane, and “one of a kind” artwork under the hood and on the front

quarter panels has been added by pinstriper Lonnie Stradley (aka “Lonster”).

On to February 2019, at a winterme ice cream run to Five Guys. Rumor had it that a club

member was selling his 2012 Shelby GT 500

converble. I talked with him about it and

found that the rumor was true. So my dream

of owning a companion 2012 Mustang seemed

within reach. In April I took possession of the

car. It’s Kona Blue with white stripes, very low

miles…and the top had never been down.

My second car show of the 2019 season was in Wallace, Idaho, where

other club members who had caravanned over persuaded me to put the top

down. Greg Goeden assisted me in the “unveiling” and the Shelby took the

second place trophy in the Modern Muscle class. By the way, at that show

Gary Gunning took first place in the same class with his Shelby GT 350—what a

score for our club.

Since then, I have en-

joyed “going topless,” and my

Shelby has taken awards in four

out of six car shows in which I’ve

parcipated so far this season.

I’ve made some improvements to both the car and its 5.4L supercharged engine,

as well as adding Lonnie’s artwork to the hood liner.

‘Stang of the Month (cont.)

I’ve been a member of the club since 2015, and I’ve en-

joyed the camaraderie, the ice cream runs, the cruises, and the

meengs. This year I oversaw the parking at our club show at

Sonntag Park and will be represenng the club at INCCC

meengs.

I couldn’t be more pleased that my dream of owning two

2012 Mustangs (“fraternal twins”) has been realized. When I

open my shop doors and see those beaues there, I feel like the

Tale of Two Stangs is complete. It truly is “the best of mes” be-

hind the wheel of a Mustang.

“Mustang…it’s not the only thing in life; it’s just the most

important” - Tom Seep

Back to school time. A reminder that school starts

in a few weeks and you need to watch out for those “slow

school” zones.

Our ice cream run to PIZZA in Suncrest had a

great turn out. The evening was perfect for a little cruizin’

after dinner. We took the long way home with the top

down. We’re looking forward to some more evening

cruising. Thanks to Barry & Francine for putting this

together.

It’s not too late to put together a cruise or event if

you have an idea. Don’t be shy. Let us know if you are

attending other events that others might enjoy also.

Up coming event is Spokane Fairgrounds show.

Wednesday Sept. 11th. Are you signed up?

See you at the meeting Sept. 3rd.
