Tivoli CDP for Files– ConfigurationHigh-Priority Files
► Specify up to three target areas for high priority files► Target area(s) will capture every save of a file when it occurs.► Local target area is auto-managed as a pool with a configurable size.
• Old versions deleted to make room for new version.► Local area allows for un-tethered restore► Option to specify a remote file server for off-machine protection; still real-time,
but tolerant of being disconnected.► Option to specify a TSM server for off-machine protection; still real-time, but
tolerant of being disconnected.
All other files► All other files are protected on a periodic basis to the remote file server or
TSM server.► Change-journal eliminates ever having to scan the file system.► Files “versioned” on remote file server allowing for point-in-time restore.► Remote versions are automatically managed to a configurable pool size.

Tivoli CDP for Files Retention
Easy to Configure.1. Create folders defining a length of
time for file retention.2. Drag-and-Drop, copy or save files to
the appropriate CDP folder.3. Those files cannot be deleted or
altered for the defined time period.

Rules Based Windows HSM
Based on rules (policies)► Include/exclude directories► Include/exclude file types (extensions)► Filter files based on creation, modification, or last access date► Absolute or relative date► Several different rules possible► Rules are stored as XML documents
Example► All documents with extension DOC (Word documents) in directory
\\server2\E$\Users\Smith and its subdirectories that have not been accessed for 90 days
HSM modes► Replace the file with a stub – DEFAULT► Keep the original file (do not remove, archive only)► Delete the file from the file server (archive delete)
* Term ’archiving’ subject of change

Windows HSM InterfaceAdmin GUI and command line
► Administration rights to the file server to install HSM client► Local administration► Search and retrieve migrated files► Exclude/Include based on Windows file type► Estimate space saving without execution
Easy retrieval from Windows Explorer► Before HSM
• Standard document icons• Logical disk size equal to physical disk size
► After HSM• Modified document icons (with clock)• Fully transparent access from Windows Explorer• Logical disk size unchanged but physical disk size reduced to size of one disk cluster
► Simple click• Triggers restore from repository• Synchronous operation• Transparent retrieval from tape or other storage media

SMB/Branch Office Customer ChallengesAbility to grow/upgrade to enterprise backup product?
► TSM Solves this by:• Seamless upgrade path to TSM full function (enterprise) server.• TSM Express specific enhancements will be available in enterprise product.
Can continue using same “Express” administrative interface. Can continue using “media rotation” if desired.
Do I need multiple clients if I have both TSM Express and Enterprise in my environment?
► TSM Solves this by:• Client “auto-configures” capabilities and interface based on which server it is working with.
What if my TSM Express server database is damaged or lost?► TSM Solves this by:
• Recover server database by restoring from database backup.-OR -
• Install new server instance and re-catalog server backup sets. Can I centralize my offsite tapes in a single location if I have multiple TSM Express servers?
► TSM Solves this by:• Backup sets can be taken to and defined to:
Other TSM Express servers.Other TSM Enterprise servers.

Exchange VSS support Characteristics Planned 4Q2005
Fast Backups - Perform on-line backups of the Exchange Server at snapshot speeds.Off-loaded Backups - Off-load the backup of data to the TSM Server storage pools to another machine.
► requires a VSS hardware provider that supports transportable shadow copy volumes
Fast Recovery - Perform very fast restores from Exchange Server backups.
► Restore from local disk avoiding media mounts► Restore through volume snapshot
• Requires ONE of the following HARDWARE environments:IBM SAN Volume Controller (version 2.1 or later)IBM TotalStorage DS6000 or DS8000
TSM Management of Snapshot Backups – Apply TSM policy to control number of snapshot versions and automatically release/reuse disk space when version limit exceededIntegrated User Interface - Integrate snapshot operations and legacy backup API operations in the same user interface.

► When "external links" are backed up they will continue to be restored as normal "symbolic links" by the TSM USS client
Updated over 100 Backup-Archive Client and HSM messages
► All message components (message text, explanation, system action, and user response) were reviewed and updated as necessary
► Potential benefits• Reduce duration of customer outages by making it easier for users to
diagnose problems on their own• Eliminate the need for customers to contact IBM for technical support, or
reduce PMR problem-determine time if technical support is required

Converted Netware from CLIB to LIBC to enable better performance
► CLIB is limited to single a processor, even if Netware server is SMP machine CLIB application does not utilize multiply processors.
► LIBC is capable to use SMP hardware, thus, bringing performance gains without any additional code
► LIBC has improved file I/O functions, for ex. log file names (error log, etc.) are not limited to 8.3 format any longer
► LIBC has native WinSock support which according to Novell has performance benefits
TSM f HW 3Q2005 (AIX)► TSM for Hardware (AIX) Current – Oracle,DB2 and mySAP w/ESS
► Oracle DS8000, DS6000 and SVC
► mySAP Oracle/DB2 DS8000,DS6000 and SVC
