Legislative News:From Wally Roper
Since we are in the time period after the Mid-
Term election, and Governor Cuomo has an-other four year term ahead of him, the Senate
is back in the control of the GOP and the As-
sembly is right where it has been since the
ice age, the political and legislative actionsare limited to the signing of bills approved by
the legislature, and the long awaited an-
nouncement of where New York State willapprove the licenses for casino gambling.
That announcement is due any day now,
probably before the end of November orearly December.
The Federal Government is waiting for the
new Congress to be seated with the GOP incontrol of both the House and the Senate. It
will be interesting to see how the Republican
Congress interacts with the ExecutiveBranch. In addition, there are some serious
cases being considered by the Supreme
Court, so next June is going to be an interest-
ing month to be sure.
We will keep an eye on things and let you
know what developments are in the works
for our agencies, our businesses and ourworkers here in the Empire State. Mean-
while, Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christ-
mas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Kwanza,
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year fromall of us here in the Southern Tier!
