Despite the pandemic plaguing the world and affecting normal life, IHM - Hyderabad has left

no stone unturned to ensure curricular & co-curricular activities are carried on with the same gusto

and tempo. We hope the world gets back on track at the earliest so that the hospitality professionals

groomed at our institute find ample job opportunities and come out with flying colours.

Hearty Congratulations to the literary committee for releasing the e-version of the college

magazine “Cackle 2020” on the occasion of World Tourism Day, followed by the regular

magazine. In our institution facilitators play a vital role in creating and developing a strong value

based culture and are the force behind transforming our students into enriched beings.

We have a philosophy, mission, vision and the ability to impact, influence communicate,

OVID-19 Pandemic has brought the globe to a grinding

Chalt. However, with the passage of time, economies of

the world have been limping back to the ‘New Normal’.

The tourism industry has taken an unprecedented beating and

has been pinning on the hope that “This too shall pass.”

This outbreak has brought us closer to nature and to coincide

with this concept, UNWTO has aptly proposed the theme “Tourism &

Rural Development”. Rural tourism showcases rural life, culture,

ethnicity and heritage of rural locations, enabling interactions

between tourists and locals for an enriching experience of “Going

local while being Global”.

Rural tourism will also give impetus to an Atmanirbhar Bharat

ensuring an efficient, competitive, resilient, self-sustaining and self-

generating Bharat as envisioned by our Hon’ble Prime Minister.

Tourism and hospitality have been leading employment

generators. Despite the setback due to the current scenario, we shall

emerge victorious.

Wishing all the Hospitality Professionals a quick recovery from

the pall of gloom staring at us.

On the occasion of International Yoga Day, st21 June, Dr. A.L.V.Kumar, an internationally

acclaimed yoga instructor and a scientist at

Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, was invited

to the institute. He emphasized on the

importance of practising yoga and

demonstrated many unique asanas which can

be easily performed while sitting on a chair.

MAHINDRA PRIDE CLASSth th

A 5-days’ workshop (24 June to 28 June 2019) on personality development was conducted by Mahindra Pride Group, exclusively for final year students. Various essential skills like teamwork, leadership and pressure handling were inculcated to make them industry-ready. Role-plays, group discussions and extempore were also a part of this interesting workshop. Few of the students were also awarded for their efforts and recognized for their oratorial skills.

IHM-Hyderabad organised its annual intra-th thcollege Chef Competition on 28 and 29

August 2019. The theme of the competition

was “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”- wherein

the students displayed an array of cuisines

from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. On day two a

sneak peek into global cuisine under the

theme “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”was

showcased by students.

As part of “Rally for Rivers” campaign

organised by ISHA Foundation, students of

IHM Hyderabad formed a Human Chain from th

Uppal to Mettuguda, Hyderabad on 6

September 2019. It was to spread the message

of “Saving our Rivers”.

ONAM LUNCH

IHM Hyderabad organised an Onasadya on ththe eve of Onam held on 11 September 2019,

when the ITC Group of Hotels visited the

institute for their recruitment drive. The

recruiters also witnessed Thiruvathirakali,

the traditional dance form of Kerala.

SWACHHATA PAKHWADA

Swachhata Pakhwada, a Government of India initiative started in the year 2016 with the objective of bringing a fortnight of intense focus on Swachhata drive. In collaboration with the Rotaract Club, faculty and students of IHM Hyderabad undertook cleaning activities in the campus of Osmania

thUniversity on 6 September 2019. The students promoted the use of paper bags and also emphasized on the ill- effects of single-use plastics.

JAL SHAKTI ABHIYAN (JSA)

Inspired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s impetus on Jal Sanchay, the Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) is a time-bound, mission-mode water conservation campaign. Faculty and students of IHM Hyderabad organised an event at Osmania University to educate people about the conservation of water bodies.

IHM-Hyderabad commemorated the 150 birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the nd

Nation, by organizing activities on 2 October. The celebrations started with faculty offering their

tributes to the bust installed in the premises. The students spread the message of Swachh Bharat

by performing a Nukaad Natak for the residents of D. D. Colony. The movie “Gandhi, My Father”

was screened for all the hostellers.

BATHUKAMMA CELEBRATIONSthOn 4 October, the faculty and students of the

Institute celebrated Bathukamma, a colourful and vibrant festival of Telangana, celebrated by women, with flowers that grow exclusively in each region. Bathukamma is a beautiful flower stack, arranged with unique seasonal flowers, most of them with medicinal value, in a minimum of seven concentric layers.

Master Star Chef, Sarah Todd visited Novotel HICC, Hyderabad to share her culinary experience with various chefs of the city on

th13 October 2019. A delectable three-course meal was the highlight of this event with the dishes made by her. A team of 10 students from IHM Hyderabad attended this informative and interactive session.

No service is bigger than the service to mankind “Manavaseva Madhavaseva”. The Rotaract Club of IHM Hyderabad took part in the Sanskriti event, where Rotaract teams from all over Telangana participated in

thvarious cultural activities on 20 October 2019. IHM – Hyderabad won the prestigious Best Rotaract Team Award.

Deepawali, the Hindu festival of lights was celebrated on 25th of October, 2019. The hostellers and faculty of IHM – Hyderabad were treated to a sumptuous Diwali dinner amidst fireworks.

of Hyderabad organised a Unity Walk on 31st

October 2019, in association with India

Tourism, to create awareness on eradication

of polio.

PUNJABI FOOD FESTIVAL

IHM Hyderabad in collaboration with IHM

Gurdaspur organised a Punjabi Food Festival

on 31st October 2019 and presented culinary

secrets from the heartlands of Punjab under

the Ek-Bharat-Shreshta-Bharat program.

Students of IHM – Hyderabad were dressed

in Punjabi attire and performed the folk

dances of Punjab. On similar lines, IHM

Gurdaspur showcased Andhra and Telangana

cuisine and culture. These events coincided

with recruitment drive of the Oberoi group of

Hotels.

GILLETTE PRESENTATION ON

GROOMING STANDARDS

Gillette, the renowned American brand of

safety razors and personal care products,

conducted a seminar on 1st November to

educate the students about the importance of

grooming and the standards to be maintained

in the industry. They also provided free

samples of their products to all the gentlemen

who attended the programme.

organised a table etiquette workshop for all

the faculty and administrative staff of the th

institute on 15 November.

DENTAL CAMP

A dental camp was organized at IHM –

Hyderabad by the Rotaract Club to create

awareness about dental hygiene. They

coordinated with Dental Clinic and Implants

Centre by Dr. Prathyusha and her team.

A master class on vegan food was conducted

by French Culinary expert, Chef Sebastién

Kardinal at Novotel HICC Hyderabad on 1st

December. A connoisseur, Vegan activist

demonstrated how dishes can be prepared in a

vegan, yet delicious way. The event was

attended by Mr. Arpan Roy.

WINE WORKSHOP

A week-long WEAT (Wine Education,

Appreciation and Tasting) workshop, in

association with Enoteca by Madhuloka, was

organised for the Final year and Second year

students (9th to 13th December). Chief

Trainer, Gaurav Thapar, familiarised the

participants with wine basics, the art of

tasting wine and wine varietals, et al.

A whisky-tasting workshop, in association

with John Paul, the well-known brand of the th

spirit, was also organised on 11 December

2019.

Management Development Programme,

sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism,

As a part of Swachhta Action Plan, IITTM,

Nellore organised a day long stakeholders’ th

meet at IHM Hyderabad on 16 December.

The meeting was attended by Ms. Satrupa

Dutta, Assistant Director, India Tourism,

Rtn. MVR Mohan, Principal, Mr. Sanjay K.

Thakur, faculty members and students of

IHM Hyderabad. The team from IITTM,

Nellore spoke at length about the Swachhta

activities performed by them. Our Principal

gave some innovative ideas, through which

basic cleanliness in our cities can be achieved.

CHRISTMAS GALA DINNER 2019

An annual gala dinner hosted by IHM Hyderabad during the Christmas season was attended by

several General Managers, Heads of Department and Learning & Development Managers of the thcity attended the event. on 18 December. The lavish buffet included a spread of Lobster Bisque,

Poached pear salad with walnuts, Lamb Shanks in mint infused gravy, Chicken Roulade with

Arugula, traditional roast turkey & roast chicken with giblet gravy and cranberry jelly. Christmas

pudding with flambéed strawberry sauce in Brandy was also served along with Tiramisu, Opera

cake, Tarts, Pies, pastries. The displays included the famous ginger hut, 3 tier Christmas cake

IHM Bhopal organised a two day International Conference on Gen Next Hospitality: Future Trends in th thHotel Industry and Alternate Accommodation on 17 and 18 January 2020, wherein our faculty- Ms.

Rachna Agashe and Ms. Parul Gupta presented their research papers on “Sustainability Practices Adopted by Hotels” and Total Quality Management as a Tool for the Success of Hospitality Industry” respectively and their research papers were published in the Conference Proceedings.

ALUMNI MEET-CLASS OF 2000thAlmni, batch of 2000, gathered at the Institute on 17 January 2020. The event was graced by former

Principals and HODs. Alumni from across the globe attended the event and relived their college memories.

SKILLIO

To make students of IHM – Hyderabad more

constructive in handling daily life situations, a

seminar titled “SKILLIO”, was conducted by Mr.

K.S. Sharma, Director and CEO, Life Skills

(India) Training Private Limited. It was held at

Jahnavi Institute of Technology and Management

on January 19, 2020.

Prof. Aftab Azim of the Indian Institute of

Technology, Kanpur conducted an interactive

workshop 22nd January 2020. The workshop

was on communication skills and improving IQ.

DEBATE COMPETITION

A debate competition was organised by the

Literary Committee on 24th January 2020,

the visiting faculty in connection with EBSB

Mr. Naubal Kaushik, SIHM Panipat and

Ms. Sireesha, NITHM were the moderators.

SPORTS DAY

The Inter-Collegiate Sports event was

conducted on 24th & 25th January 2020. The

winning team IHM - Hyderabad walked away

with coveted Yamuna Ranga Rao Trophy,

instituted by the founder Principal of our

college.

Lohri, a popular Punjabi festival, was

celebrated on the 13th of January 2020,

colourful attires and a cheerful bonfire added

to the festive cheer.

Hyderabad provided a platform for the students from various central IHMs across the country to

Bhopal and Mr. G. Shriram from Culinary Academy of India, Hyderabad were declared winners.

IHM-H held its “Annual Food Fest” on the

theme of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” from th24th to 29 January 2020. The event saw

participation from paired State of Haryana

Institute of Hotel Management. To promote

Haryana Tourism Cuisine & Culture the

college was bedecked with artefacts from the

State. To spread awareness about the Cultural

Diversity an information booth was set-up by

the students. In addition, Annual Flower

Arrangement Competition on the above

theme brought out the latent talent of the

students. India Tourism, Hyderabad

organized a city sightseeing tour for the

visiting faculty and students from Haryana.

Sommet Education Group visited the institute

on 4th February 2020 and presented higher

education opportunities at Glion and Les

demonstrated Japanese Cuisine and Chef Astik

Oberoi, a BBC National Food Winner conducted a

pastry workshop.

FIRST-AID WORKSHOP

A first-aid workshop was conducted by Ms. Payal Kapoor, our alumna, on 20th January. She

educated the students on first aid & CPR training by giving them a demo. Additionally do’s and

don’ts were also taught for medical emergencies like cardiac arrest, etc.

Our faculty Mr. L. Rajesh, presented a research paper on ‘Entrepreneurship Education: Challenges and Role of Institutions’ at IHM Bhubaneswar on 14th February 2020.

visited IHM Faridabad along with a set of

students, under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat-

cultural Exchange Program of the MoT, GoI.

The tour was from the 14th of Februrary for

six days and it included visits to IHM Panipat

& Kurukshetra.

BHARAT” QUIZ

An online quiz was conducted by Ministry of

Tourism, My Govt. and Fit India Mission on

18th of February, 2020 as part of “Ek Bharat

Shreshtha Bharat”. The quiz was based on

Indian athletes, sports and culture of

Haryana.

CEO’s VISIT

Shri Gyan Bhusan, CEO, NCHMCT & Economic Advisor (Ministry of Tourism), GoI, visited the institute on the 25th of February, 2020.

IHM-HYDERABAD WINS WGSHA-QUEST 2020

Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, hosted WGSHA Quest, a national level inter-collegiate hospitality and culinary competition from 29th February 2020 onwards. IHM-H students participated and backed the Overall Champions Trophy.

IITF CERTIFICATION PROGRAMMEMs. Satrupa Dutta, Assistant Director, India Tourism, Hyderabad, conducted an awareness session on the Tourist Facilitator Certification Program, which is a digital initiative of the Ministry of Tourism, GoI on 10th February 2020.

A team from Accor Hotels, Hyderabad visited

the institute and briefed the students about the

“Accor Takeoff Challenge” – a hospitality

competition to prepare the budding

POLICE MEET

A Police Meet was organized at IHM on 4th

March 2020 at IHM-H. It was attended by Mr.

M. Ramesh, IPS (East Zone) along with Mr.

Govind Reddy additional DCP (East Zone).

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY 2020International Yoga Day 2020 was celebrated in the comfort of one’s home with family members due to the lockdown. Mr. S.V. Rao, Yoga guru visited the institute and demonstrated various asanas.

ONLINE TEACHING WORKSHOP

IHM Hyderabad organized a two - days’ workshop on the 3rd & 4th June 2020, on Creating High Impact and Effective Communication for Online Teaching. The faculty actively participated and learnt the fundamentals of online teaching by Master Koach Mr. Kanak.

‘Insane Hotelier’ book co-authored by our faculty Ms. Rachna Agashe was released by our Principal, Mr. Sanjay K. Thakur. The book gives an insight about the physical, psychological requirement of becoming a high performer in the hotel industry.

TELEPHONE ETIQUETTE SESSION

As a part of inter-departmental training, a Telephone Etiquette session was conducted by Ms. Rachna Agashe, faculty for the Teaching and Administrative staff. She highlighted on the basics and the standard phraseology to be used while on the phone.

The 2nd Joint International Conference on Tourism, Hospitality & Sustainable Development Goals was conducted at NITHM, Hyderabad, on 8th February 2020. 72 International delegates from over 18 countries, along with delegates from India attended the conference. Our faculty Mrs. Saraswati Sankaramani and Mr. L. Rajesh attended and presented the conference and presented a research paper on “Sustainable Practices in Hotels”.
