A reminder that learning reports go home next Friday 13 December following our awards assembly and school finishes at 1 pm on Monday 16 December. This will fol- low a shortened lunchtime from 12 - 12.30 pm. Please make arrangements for your child to be picked up at the earlier time of 1 pm that Monday. EXCITING OPENING CELEBRATION We are all ex- cited about the opening of the Living Room Kitchen classroom to- morrow at 2 pm. The stu- dents will be playing a ma- jor part as this has been their project, and their dream c o m i n g t o fruition. It has been a fan- tastic learning journey for so many children over the last couple of years and provides a fantastic learning space for many students to enjoy for years to come. BOT UPDATE - PRINCIPALS APPOINTMENT Kia ora whanau, Thank you to those who shared your thoughts relating to what the Board should be looking for in our new Principal. We have collated your feedback and will use it, to- gether with staff and student thoughts, to update the key documents we use in the selection process (position description and person specification). We have appointed an independent con- sultant, Colleen Lowe, to assist us with our recruitment process. Our advertisement is live on the Education Gazette online, and will be included in the hard-copy edition published next week. Applications close on 31 January 2020 - and from there, the hard work begins! Alice Baucke, Board Chair SPEECH FINALS NIGHT As part of our oral language programme, all children at Hukanui School write and present a speech or recite poems as in the case of junior classes. Great skills to devel- op early in life. Tonight’s Speech Finals at 6.30 pm in the hall is the culmination of the seniors speech programme and is an excit- ing and entertaining night not to be missed. The Year 3 and 4 finalists will also be sharing but they aren’t judged. Con- gratulations to the following senior finalists and all the best tonight as you deliver your speeches in front of families and friends. Year 6: Cameron Bainbridge-Smith, Frances Gregory, Zach Houlihan, Dylan Lee, Gemma Martin, John Park. Year 5: Hope Bowler, Brooke Bryant, Talia Davidson, Lukas Hill, Saskia Potter, Brylee Stowers. INTERSCHOOL ATHLETICS Our team did very well representing our school at the Interschool Sports Day on Wednesday at Southwell School. Results will be in next week’s newsletter.

Lost Property will be laid out in the Cultural Garden for all of next week. Come and see if you can be re-united with your long lost uniform items and missing shoes!

Uniform Donations - if you have any unwanted uniform items that you'd like to donate, please drop them off at the school office.  We'd love to hold a second-hand uni-form sale early in Term 1 of 2020 but need more stock for this to be able to go ahead.

This is a formal night and is one night that it is not appropriate for preschoolers or younger Hukanui children to attend. Hukanui children will be invited to watch the per-forming groups at rehearsals during the week.
