PRESIDENTS REPORT What a large turnout of Z cars at the Raglan run, great day, great friends and even a stop at a pub on the way home, excellent. We even found out a little old Consul can still push a V8 powered Mk1 up the hills, aye Lloyd. Other excitement was a Mk4 having a wee fire under the bonnet and the locals stunned at the parade of cars through the town centre. The Northland run is fast approaching so don’t forget to make your hotel bookings and enjoy Bev & Terry’s hospitality. I have been told that this event is a must on the calendar and we are finally going to make this one after disappointment of cancelling at the last minute last year. Rod is collecting names for the xmas run lunch so look for the details further in the mag. Talking about Rod have heard some amazing not to be repeated stories about his experiences on the Varity Bash run along with a another club member, Mr Bryant, a write up would be great for mag. Have received couple of letters from our Aussie member with some great information and advice, thanks Ian and it is good to hear from you. Just need to purchase a few more bits and the V8 will be sitting in the Mk3, unfortunately Lee-Anne has claimed as hers so will need to hide the keys I think. The weather is finely starting to warm up and makes the weekend getting out in the old Z car, nothing like bringing back memories to all those people who wave out and have the look I wish I owned one. The xmas raffle has started as well so all donations gratefully accepted, see details further in mag. For those heading up north on the next run drive safely and we will see you there, Cheers Mike

SHERIFFS REPORT

Hi Folks, Another awesome day organised by Deputy Dog over in sunny Raglan. For those of you that didn’t attend it was a

different run with (guess what!) no museums or backyard sheds. The fabulous Franks family of Huntly started another run raffle which earned some $$ to be put toward the next convention travel fund. Booby prize won by Deidre from Rotorua and $20 worth of petrol vouchers won by Noel Mildon. The pig was only fed by a few and only one car without a current warrant of fitness. Until next run – Happy Zephyring! The Sheriff

MIDDLE OF THE ROAD

Why is the word abbreviation such a long word? Sign on a towing truck:

“We don’t charge an arm or a leg. We want tows!” One day, Jimmy Jones was walking down Main Street when he saw his buddy Barney driving a brand new pickup. Barney pulled up to him with a wide grin. "Barney, where'd you git that truck?" "Tammie give it to me" Barney replied. "She gave it ya? I know'd she wuz kinda sweet on ya, but a new truck?" "Well, Jimmy Jones, let me tell you what happened. We wuz drivin' out on County Road 6, in the middle of nowheres. Tammie pulled off the Road, put the truck in 4-wheel drive, and headed into the woods. She parked the truck, got out, threw off all her clothes and said, 'Barney, take whatever you want.' So I took the truck!" "Barney, yor a smart man! Them clothes woulda never fit you!"

OUR LAST OUTING Sunday 13th September This was a great turnout of members from near and far. Approx 17 cars in all, about 45 people. The day couldn’t have been much better weather wise. 1st stop was bridle veil falls on the Te Mata Road, a must see when travelling to Raglan with time to spare. Then on to Raglan, a circuit around the town centre then down to the wharf back to town for lunch.

Page 9: Document

Page 8

After lunch it was across to the camping ground for a relaxing get together and the usual meeting, then photos by the boat ramp parking area.

Next was a trip around the bays where there were fantastic views of the bar entrance and Whale Bay and Manu Bay. Included during the day was a poker run and raffle (won by the writer). A great day was had by all. Well done Rod and Liz. Noel Mildon

XMAS FUNCTION Hi Everyone, Many thanks to all those that made it to the Raglan Run on the 13 Sept, 20 Z Cars and 2 Mk5s were an awesome site arriving in convoy at a nice and sunny destination. Sorry to all those that I dealt a bad poker hand to, next time try a little bribery you never know

how it can work in you favour ( Ben like's Jim Beam)

Xmas Function I have been checking out some local eateries, where we can have our Xmas function at and I think I have found just the place. It was great to get everyone's positive feed back on this venue that we have found and a show of hands as to who would like to attend a Xmas Luncheon. The venue is the Gostiona Licensed Restaurant & Cafe, CNR of Rukuhia & Ohaupo Rd ( 3 mins from Glenview) Hamilton. We would have the venue to our selves, but would need a minimum of 50 people (show of hands from the Raglan run gave us a great start of 38). The date would be the 5th Dec, time to start this fantastic buffet would be 12.00pm, meal served 12:30pm and we would need to clear the restaurant by 4pm, cost per adult $29.00, $16.00 per child under 12 and under 5years are free. They are prepared to put on this special luncheon at a time that they would normally be closed (what lovely people). We could arrange to meet up that night for those that wish to stay over, my back deck would hold a few the choice is yours, BBQ can be standing by

for evening nibbles?

So now I need your help! Please, Please, Please and did I

say PLEASE send me an email of confirmation with numbers ( adults and children & their ages) by the 25th October. I will check on max numbers that they can seat, so first in best dressed. As you are aware December is not an easy time to arrange a Xmas function so your HELP will be very much appreciated. The sooner the better please and then I can confirm a visit from the man in RED , I wonder who that could be?

Our Luckiest Day

By Spencer Jamieson The road around Australia has got to be maybe 18 to 20 thousand kilometres just as a guess. Im not sure exactly what it is, but it’s a bloody long way in any kiwi’s language. For you non travelled Zephyr people this is the highway that goes on from Brisbane, north, to ‘forever’, and I mean ‘forever’! Anyway to get this story going, Brian Whitley (MK2 Ute) and myself had this madcapped, hairbrained idea to fly to Brisbane, drive some 1350 kilometers in two days, just to check out a consul ute. Now believe me a ‘Consul ute” is rare, and I mean real rare. Now a good ford enthusiast would say “These boys are true blue ford men”, others would say different, many would say “you need your heads read”! Now the consul ute story is another chapter, which I may unfold at a later date, so im back to the “Road around Australia” bit. I am now going to ask the question “How many Zephyr utes would there be going around the whole circumference, on the main highway of Australia?” I bet there is only one, and guess what…. BRYAN SPOTTED IT! We were driving down the Queensland coast between Childers and Gympie. Been going for about 4 hours, run out of conversation after talking about our hangovers, caused by chemicals in Australian beer! Cass’s tight buns (she was the barmaid) “Cole” who I called an aboriginal, who wasn’t an aboriginal from the Pinnjinarra tribe, but had owned a Mk2, so we let him drink with us and shout a few beers because we still owned Zephyrs.

Anyway we are driving along and the next thing, Bryan yells out “There is a bloody ute in the back yard back there” Stone me crows, we slammed on the brakes of the brand new Holden Cruize we were driving, pull over and start backing up. Now to back up on the narrow Bruce highway with those huge B Doubles coming up your rear is no mean feat! The Bruce highway is really narrow in parts, and this is one of them, but what has to be done, has to be done! This is in the interests of Zephyrs and out magazine! I look over into this Queensland yard of vehicles, on about 3 acres, maybe 10 vehicles all parked up. Sure enough, there tucked away was a “Zephyr Ute” fan my brow, after all the excitement over the last couple of days, low and behold here was “piece da resistance” in all its glory! My heart was missing a beat. The pulse was pulsating, this was better than sex but what comes next, you will have to wait……. Read the drama as it unfolds in part two of our next magazine……..
