Heart of Mary This week we begin our three-week journey with the first book in our Summer Trio Series "Loved As I Am"
by Sr Miriam James Heidland. When Sr. Miriam James Heidland’s life as a successful college athlete proved unfulfilling, she
went searching for something deeper and ended up falling in love with Jesus. By charng her own journey toward whole-
ness, Heidland invites Catholics to pursue their own relaonship with Jesus. Our summer series features prayer, reflecon
quesons, inspiraonal talks and online weekly discussion. The link to our first book study is h=ps://

A History of the Catholic Women's League of Canada (con’t)
Last week we learned that in 1910, Archbishop Francis Al-
phonsus Bourne, of Westminster, England on a visit to Mon-
treal, had met Bellelle Guerin and suggested the possibility of
beginning an organizaon for English speaking Catholic wom-
en in Canada similar to the associaon of Catholic Lay Women
formed in England.
By the spring of 1917, Bellelle had established a group of
Catholic women in Montreal known as the Ladies of Loyola
Club, who at their first meeng elected her president. She
wrote to the Archbishop of Montreal, Archbishop Paul Bruch-
esi, to request his blessing and support for this new organiza-
on. She explained to him that this new organizaon was to
follow the model encouraged by Archbishop Bourne in Eng-
land to “unite English speaking Catholic women for the pur-
pose of counsel, philanthropy and educaonal work in accord-
ance with Catholic principles.” During June, 1917 Archbishop
Bruchesi met with Bellelle and gave his complete approval for
the group and it's objecves. In their discussions they decided
that the name of the group should be changed from 'Ladies of
Loyola Club' to the 'Catholic Women's League' so that it would
have the same name as the groups in England and Edmonton.
It was then that they began to envision similar groups of Cath-
olic Lay women meeng, praying, learning and accomplishing
charitable work in most of the major cies across Canada. In
the years between 1917 and 1920 the 'league' was organized
into various departments such as music, art & literature, civics
& educaon. home economics, care for the residents of
'Loyola Convalescent Home' (founded by the Ladies of Loyola
in 1914). The members of this fledgling organizaon had
weekly aQernoon meengs with speakers who addressed vari-
ous topics including: “Canada's contribuon to Modern Art”,
“Homemaking as a Profession”, “Catholic women and the
Vote”. There were also reports given on the work being done
by the members and plans for raising funds to cover needed
expenses, It must have been a most popular organizaon be-
cause by June of 1920 there were 440 members in the the
Catholic Women's League – Montreal branch.

Also, please take a look at the video a=achment from Ken Yasinski, who is a Catholic speaker from out west. In his video,
he shares some wisdom about coming back to Mass since COVID. I think his reflecon will help our experience of coming

Trinity Sunday
From The Pastor’s Pen - With Premier Ford's announcement this week about the
reopening of our churches, I ask for everyone's paence as we do this because
how we go about congregang is going to be very different than before the places
of worship were closed.
As we move towards reopening on the weekend of June 20-21, the following pri-
ories guide our planning, and I am quong Bishop Fabbro:
-the health and safety of the faithful, clergy, staff and volunteers;
-Proacve measures to avoid the potenal of a second wave of this virus;
-Recognizing the fundamental commandment—a love of God and neighbour—we
have a responsibility to care for one another and protect our communies.
While I write this, we do not as yet have the final plan from our diocese. Howev-
er, we do know that only 30% of the Church's capacity can be used. We can ex-
pect social distancing to be in place, and places marked where people can sit. Up-
on entering and leaving the Church, it will be the expectaon that everyone will
sanize their hands. All hymn books and missals and any other leaflets will be
removed before we reopen. In the aisles, the floor will be marked to indicate 6'
distancing to give sufficient space as people enter and exit the Church and for the
communion procession. Everyone will wear masks and each of us will supply our
own. Holy water fonts will be empty. If you want water blessed, please bring
your own bo=led water, and we will bless it. This list is not exhausve, but it rep-
resents what we can expect. We are expecng the final plan soon.
Reminder for those who are elderly or whose immune system is compromised,
and those who are hesitant to return to church at this me, or those who not
make it, please know that the obligaon to parcipate at Sunday Mass is suspend-
ed for as long as necessary unl we open to capacity.
