TRANSCRIPT
An important cause of concern amongst our senior members has been the low
attendance in the academic events of DOA. Frequently, members fail to get the info to plan their
schedule. And with the busy lifestyle these days, academics usually take the backseat.
DOACARES whatsapp number might help! DOA has started a new pilot project for one year to
send timely info & repeated reminders to all members of our organization. Members will get
event details, highlights of the show, location, tips to reach the venue etc from this Whatsapp
number.
However, you NEED TO SAVE THIS NUMBER IN YOUR CONTACTS LIST....ONLY THEN WHATSAPP ALLOWS DOA TO BROADCAST MESSAGES TO ALL.

Ist PG instructional course
DOA organized its Ist PG instructional course on 1st October in RML auditorium, under guidance of Dr R
K Arya. The course attracted faculty from all across India.
While Prof Bhuyan came all the way from Assam, Prof Dhakad ( Gwalior), Prof Sherwani ( Aligarh) & Prof
Tonk (Meerut) also covered significant distance to be with their students. Of course, our very own, Profs
Rajesh Malhotra & A Mehtani were there.
The course got tremendous response from PG students with record 166 registrations. And there was
some good feedback too on DOACARES. Everyone seemed to be happy and requested that Full day PG
programmes should be done on Sunday so that more can attend.
EDOA CME – Osteoarticular Tuerculosis
How long to give ATT in Tuberculosis of Hip etc? Do the
DOTS guidelines apply to joint Tuberculosis? OK, Mantoux
test is done. Now what? Does TB gold help us in anyway?
And what about that new Test….PCR ? Or is it PCA….?
There are thousands of questions which come to our
mind when we see that dreaded infection in our clinics.
East Delhi Orthopedic Association set out to find answers
to a few of them. Dr Inder Ahuja personally made sure
that only the best are there. And the Very Best we got! Dr
Rajiv Jain set the ball rolling with some difficult Case
Scenarios. And the stage was set for Dr Tuli to show us
light.
After an exciting presentation for half an hour, where he
dwelled on his experiences in dealing with difficult Joint tuberculosis, naturally no one wanted to let him
go. The talk was followed by extensive discussion with Dr Arun Goyal taking the lead. But 112 people
from as far as Dwarka & Pitampura had as many questions. It was only Dr A K Jain who could take the
stage after that. He had recently come out with
WHO treatment guidelines for Osteoarticular
Tuberculosis.
It was only when the show exceeded its
scheduled time by more than an hour, that Dr I
Ahuja decided to call it stumps. 58 Pgs from all
across Delhi were more than happy by now to
hear the stalwarts who they only read about in
books. And the rest of us, just felt sorry for those
who missed this great opportunity.
MIDCON 2016
MIDCON 2016 was unusually gala this time. A whole day affair at Leela Ambience, Karkardooma
provided a massive backdrop. Of course, Gods wanted to test the resolve of East Delhi Orthopedic
Association. But even the massive rains couldn’t dampen the spirits. About 200 people from Gurgaon,
Ghaziabad and Rohini headed to East Delhi in their quest of knowledge. It helped that a Metro Pick &
Drop was available.
Event started with landmark EDOA style. No lengthy inaugural speeches, no time consuming ceremonies
and straight to the point! So much so that even Speakers’ appreciation & acknowledgement was limited
to grand total of two minutes. Event started bang on 10 am with hall attendance of approximately 50
people. And the concluding remarks were read just before 5 pm. Evidently, the organisers know their
audience’ pulse.
The topic was Decision making in difficult fractures & Drs Shekhar Srivastav, Rajiv Jain, Neeraj Gupta &
Sharad Agarwal dwelled on common problems. Each 15 mt talk was followed by 1 hr of intense Case
Discussion. Dr. Bhavuk Garg and Dr Mohit Madan organised a PG quiz where 7 teams participated. A
Wall of Fame was set up in the main area to honour DOA members for their path breaking
accomplishments. Members enthusiastically participated in posters’ competition.
The conference was inaugurated by Shri Satyendra Jain, Honourable Health Minister, Delhi and NCT. He
also released the special “Cartilage issue” of JCOT, the most widely acclaimed official Journal of Delhi
Orthopaedic Association.
DOA CADAVERIC SPINE COURSE
On 10th of July a basic spine cadaveric course was
organized at MAMC under the leadership of Prof . Ajay
Gupta. 26 delegates attended and there were 13 faculty
members to train them. Four fresh cadavers were
arranged and after the lectures the delegates had good
time to practice the skills on the cadavers. Both the
faculty and delegates were very satisfied with the course.
This course now would be one of the regular cadaveric
courses of DOA. It was decided that next year onwards
Image guidance will also be arranged to improve the training skills.
