How to Register as an Individual on OMJ

3: Sign in with your Username/Email and Password.

Note: If you do not have an account yet and require assistance with registering, please visit the “How Do I?” section and select the “How to Register as a Job Seeker” document.

4: Select Create Resume or Upload Resume.

Create a resume

1. Put in your resume title a. Note: A resume title should not be your name. Take this time to come up with something that

will catch the employer’s eye (e.g. Senior Marketing Director, Experienced Sales Manager). To the employer they will see “Your Name – Experienced Sales Manager”

2. Select whether you want this resume to be public or private.

a. Public – employers will be able to find and view your resume. i. Diversity check box - diverse backgrounds including race, gender, 50+ workers, disability

status, and lifestyle preference. ii. Confidential – Hides the following information from employers; email, name, address,

phone, references, most recent employer name. Note: Employers can still contact you through a confidential email address that they will see.

b. Private – employers cannot find or view your resume at all. 3. Enter your most recent work experience.

5. Select the Job Type(s) that you are interested in.

6. Select the Job status(es) that you are interested in.

7. Here you can enter your Desired Salary. a. Note: It is recommended that you do not fill this out, because the amount that you put in can be

filtered by employers. Ex. If you put in $40,000 and the employer inputs on their side only resumes up to $39,999.99, your resume may not be seen.

8. Enter up to 2 job titles that you wish to target for a job and enter the amount of experience you have in years.

9. Select up to 10 different industries that you would prefer to work in.

10. Select up to 5 different occupations that you would prefer to work in. a. Here you can use the “Quick Find” feature to help you find the occupations that you are looking

to work in.

11. By default you have your initial job target location selected for you from your registration. However you may now select up to 19 more locations.

a. Note: For multiple locations PC - hold down the <CTRL> key; Mac – hold down <Command> key and click the options you want to select.

12. Click the Create button.

Now is the time that you can go through and create more entries into the Work Experience, Education, Organizations that you’re affiliated with, Skills that you have, Languages that you speak (English – hint, hint), references that you may have (recommended 3 – 5 Professional and 1 – 2 Personal) and any other additional professional information that you have. You can do this by clicking the “Edit” or “Add” words.

14. Once you are finished select the “ I ’m Finished ” button (*here and there).

11. Click the “Choose File” button and locate and select the Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx), Plaint Text (.txt), Rich Text (.rtf), or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) file, 500 KB or smaller.

12. Click the Create button.

13. Now is the time that you can go through and create more entries into the Work Experience, Education, Skills that you have, Languages that you speak (English – hint, hint), You can do this by clicking the “Edit” or “Add” words.

14. Once you are finished select the “I’m Finished” button (*here and there).

Resume Rating

1. After you have completed posting your resume, you can now use the new OhioMeansJobs Resume Rating tool

2. To do this you should be on the Resumes page. Next to each of your resumes is a word that states “Rate”. Click on the one next to the resume that you would like to have rated.

3. The # percentile section gives you an average of where your resume stands with others. The Brevity, Impact and Depth sections gives you information about how your resume is scored. The higher the number the better the rating.

4. There is even a “Tips for Improvement” section that will assist you in helping get your resume better.
