CREATE A LOGIN

Before you can stream, you must create a login:

1. Navigate to the Hoopla page of the KCKPL eCommunity website. Select the “Get Started” button to sign up.

2. Enter your email address, create a password, and hit continue.

3. Choose the “Kansas City Kansas Public Library” from the drop-down list and select “Next”

4. Enter your library card number or eCard number and then hit “Next”

5. Once you get a confirmation, select “Sign Me Up”

6. You will then get a “thanks for signing up” page which tells you that KCKPL allows 15 titles to be checked out each month. Select “Done”

7. Begin Browsing!

DOWNLOAD THE APP

If you would like to read/watch/listen on a mobile device, you must download the Hoopla app.

1. Go to either the Amazon store, Google Play, or iTunes depending on your device

2. Once the app is installed, you can sign in with your library card or eCard number and begin checking out items.

CHECK OUT AN ITEM

Instructions are the same both on the app and website.

1. Search for a specific item by selecting the “Search” option to type in a search box or hover over the “Browse” drop-down to browse in different categories

2. Once you’ve selected an item, click on the blue “Borrow” button and it will be placed

into your account instantaneously.

WHERE ARE MY CHECKED OUT ITEMS LOCATED?

Once you’ve checked out an item, it will be listed under your homepage:

• On the website, the homepage is found by clicking the “Hoopla” logo in the top left hand corner or selecting “My Hoopla” in to top toolbar.

• On iOS devices the homepage is found by clicking “My Hoopla” on the app

• On Android devices the homepage is found by clicking “Home” on the app

BORROWING AND ACCESSING YOUR ITEMS

1. When you have located and selected your item, you will select “Borrow” to checkout that item. And then “Play” to begin listening, reading, or watching.

Note: On the App, the “Download” button will also appear after you have borrowed an item in order to still access it when you are away from an internet connection.

a. Music: After borrowing, press the “Play” button or double-click a track listing to start playing

b. eBooks: Press the “Borrow” button to check out, followed by the “Play” button to begin reading.

c. Comics: Press the “Borrow” and then the “Play” button.

d. Movies: Press the “Borrow” and then “Play” button

e. TV Series: Press the “Borrow” and then “Play” button

f. Audio Books: Press the “Borrow” and then “Play” button

RETURNING CHECKED OUT ITEMS

Items will automatically return once your checkout period is over, but you can return them early if you wish. NOTE: Returning items early does not give you the opportunity to check out more items if you have reached your 15/month max. The 15 items allowed to be borrowed is within the month not at a time.

1. Select what you want from your list of borrowed items

2. Click on the “Return now” link, located at the bottom of the title information page on the website and app

HOW MANY ITEMS DO I HAVE LEFT FOR THIS MONTH?

• You can see how many items you have left each month by looking inside the red circle located under the hoopla logo at the top of the homepage on the website

• On the app: The number of titles left for the month is located in the blue bar

I OPENED A BOOK AND NOW CAN’T GET BACK TO THE MENU!

Within the app, when you select an eBook or Comic Book to read on Hoopla the menu bar will disappear so to get out of an eBook/Comic Book take the following steps

• On iOS devices:

1. Simply tap your finger directly on the screen once to reveal the “Done” option in the top left of your screen

• On Android devices:

1. Tapping once will only reveal the reading menu, to get out and got back to Hoopla’s menu swipe your finger from the top of the screen down to reveal the ‘back’ button on your device

2. Select the ‘back’ button to return to Hoopla’s menu
