Step 1: When you un-zip the downloaded file, you will find a PSD file. Open it in Photoshop. Go to “layers” and double click on the layer called “Change Me – FrontCover”.

Step 1b: The file will open with the project text and background cover.

Step 2a: Create a new layer “1” and delete all the other layers.

Step 2b: Place the image that you want on the cover on the new layer. I put the cover of Memoirs of Geisha. Now go to File>Save (Ctrl+S).

Step 2c: This will be the result of step 2.

Step 3: Now, go to “Layers” and double click on layer called “change me - Spine” and a new file will open.

Step 4a: On the tool bar, double click on “Set Foreground Color”. A color picker box will open.

Step 4b: Choose the color matching the background of your cover and click ok. Go to File>Save (Ctrl+S). Since the background color of the cover was black, I selected a grey color.

Step 5: You will notice that the spine color has changed in the original file. Now go to “Layers”, select the layer called “color Balance”, click on layer style, and select “Blending Options”.

Step 6: A “Layer Style” window will pop up. Click on “Gradient Overlay” and change the angle of your gradient according to your need, and click ok .
