    Steps to Create Report in Oracle Reports Builder 10g

    In Oracle Reports, you have two options for building a paper report. he first one is to use the wi!ards and editors in

    Reports Builder. he second one is to define the data "odel and#or layout for your paper report in $%&.

    'ere we will discuss the steps to build a paper report using the Report (i!ard.

    Step 1) Invo*ing Reports Builder and the Report (i!ard

    (hen you invo*e Reports Builder, the (elco"e dialog bo+ gives you the option of using the (i!ard to build a new

    report. he Report (i!ard provides an easy stepbystep interface to create a new report.

    he Report (i!ard opens with a (elco"e page. o suppress this page, clear the -isplay at startup/ chec* bo+. ou

    can reinstate this page in the sa"e way as the (elco"e dialog bo+ in Reports Builder select the (i!ard tab in the

    2references dialog bo+ and then select Report (i!ard (elco"e 2age.

    3ach page of the Report (i!ard as*s you for infor"ation to help you create your initial report. Step through the

    wi!ard pages, selecting 4e+t and Bac*, until you are satisfied with the initial infor"ation that you have entered. On

    the last page, select 5inish.

    Step 4: Selecting the Data Source Type

    4e+t, you have to define the data source type for your report. hrough the i"ple"entation of the 2luggable ata

    Source 72S8 feature in Oracle Reports, the data for your report can co"e fro" any source you choose. Reports

    Builder provides interface definitions that act as a translator between Reports Builder and a 2S by redefining

    Reports Builder9s re:uests in ter"s your data source uses.

    connected to the database. @. Select the data tables to build the :uery.

    =uery Builder copies the :uery synta+ into the Report (i!ard. ou can "odify the :uery by reentering =uery Builder

    or by "odifying the S=& :uery state"ent te+t.

    Note: If you prefer to write your own S=& state"ent, enter the synta+ directly in the S=& :uery state"ent area of the

    =uery page. ;lternatively, you can i"port the contents of a file by clic*ing I"port S=& =uery.

    Step 6: Selecting Displayed Fields

    In the 5ield page, select each field fro" the ;vailable 5ields list and clic* F. he selected fields "ove to the isplayed

    5ields list. o display all fields, clic* FF.

    ou can alter the se:uence of displayed fields by dragging one field above or below another in the list. he se:uence

    of fields in this list deter"ines how the fields appear in the report output. In a tabular report, the fields appear in

    se:uence fro" left to right across the page.

    5ields that re"ain in the ;vailable 5ields list are available for you to reference in your report definition as hidden fields

    or in 2S=& trigger code.

    In the report output, the user sees only those fields that you transfer to the isplayed 5ields list.

    Step : Totals and !a"els

    In the ne+t two pages of the Report (i!ard, you can create totals based on any of the displayed fields and "odify the

    labels and width of the displayed fields.

    Totals: Standard S=& aggregate functions are provided for creating totals in your report.

    !a"els: he field label is displayed on one or "ore lines in the report output. In a tabular report, the labels appear

    above the field values.

    If the initial label is wider than the field, Reports Builder allows enough space for the label, or displays it on

    "ultiple lines.

    If you increase the nu"ber of characters in the label te+t in the reentrant (i!ard, the label can appear

    truncated in the report output.

    Report e"plates enforce corporate standards as well as create professionalloo*ing paper reports easily.

    Select a te"plate fro" the list of predefined te"plate na"es. In a te"plate, the fonts, styles, and colors are already

    selected for designated obGects. ; variety of te"plates are available with the standard Reports installation.

    want to see. ou can also use the Hiew "enu to "agnify or reduce the si!e of the output. Select Hiew F oo" to see

    your options.

    pages of your report.
