How to Choose your Wedding Venue
One of the biggest decisions which you will need to make when planning your wedding is the type
of venue which you would like to have. These days, there are a variety of different options available
and the venue that you choose is likely to impact everything from the look, to the schedule of your
big day. Here are just a few points to consider, to ensure that you choose the right venue for you,
as a couple:
Does it hold significance?
Whilst a venue which means something to you isn’t necessarily a requirement, it can help to make
your big day even more memorable. If you are marrying a Scottish partner, for example, then you
might consider booking a wedding venue in Dundee or Edinburgh, where you are more likely to be
able to request a traditional Scottish wedding. If you have a keen interest in medieval history, on
the other hand, then you might enjoy having your wedding at a castle. Choose somewhere which
reflects your personalities and, of course, make sure that you pay a visit to the venue before you
make your booking.
Is it practical?
A beautiful wedding venue can be an attractive prospect for any couple looking to tie the knot, but
there are also a number of practical considerations to be made. Will your choice of venue be able
to accommodate the number of guests which you are inviting? Will a venue be able to cater for all
weather conditions? Will you be able to have the wedding décor that you always dreamed of?
Lastly, how much of your budget can you really afford to spend on the venue alone?
What is provided?
Some wedding venues will provide, or assist in the provision of, many of the other services which
you are likely to use throughout your wedding day. Full service venues often provide everything
from catering facilities, to furniture, to entertainment and even photographers. For some couples,
this is the most convenient option and a great way to ensure that your entire day runs as smoothly
as possible. Others, however, would rather have the opportunity to personalise every aspect of
their wedding day and are less likely to want to book a package deal. This can also be something
else which will have a significant impact on your budget.
Reception or ceremony?
Having your wedding ceremony and reception at the same venue can cut costs considerably, and
many couples find it more convenient to choose one location for their entire day. However, if you
have your heart set on a church wedding, or another type of ceremony venue, then this is worth
bearing in mind when choosing a second venue for your reception. Similarly, you will want to
ensure that your chosen venue is able to cater for a ceremony, as not everywhere will hold a
license to do so.
