Reflection Questions for the
Readings for April 8, 2018
Have you ever been swallowed up in Thomas-like skepticism and cynicism? How was that “doubt” transformed into hope and trust?
In what ways is your parish community like-or can become like-the first Christian community portrayed in today’s first reading?
How can we “breathe” new life into our relation-ships with others?
In what “non-sacramental” ways can individuals forgive and “retain” sins?

LETTER FROM THE PASTOR RRRRRRRR
Welcome to all of our visitors and guests today. Easter is one of those traditional times that peo-ple join with family and friends to attend Church and we are happy that you chose Holy Name of Jesus for your celebration. I hope that you felt welcomed to the community and at home with us. Please come back and worship with us again.
Our Easter celebrations and the services leading up to Easter are some of the most important celebrations of the year. We proclaim and reflect on our most important scripture accounts, we celebrate our life giving rituals, we welcome new members into our community and we re-commit ourselves to discipleship in Christ.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who have given so generously of their time to serve as a minis-ter during this Holy Week, from those who helped greet people at the door to those who built the Easter Fire on Saturday night.
With joy we welcomed 10 new members into the Catholic faith and the parish family of Holy Name of Jesus. We baptized 1 person and we welcomed 9 new members from other faith backgrounds who had already been bap-tized. I have had the privilege of spending time during Lent with the adults joining the church. During Lent we spend time in prayer and retreat in preparation for them receiving the Sacraments. I am greatly impressed by this wonderful group of people who bring many gifts and a rich faith to our faith community. If you do not know them I hope you will soon have the opportunity to meet and get to know them. They are a true asset to our com-munity and we are blessed to have them a part of our family.
We know that the Church celebrates seasons and not just a day. So as we say Happy Easter we are not referring to just Easter Sunday but we mean the 50 days to follow, the Season of Easter. For the past few years I have been trying to come up with a way that we can acknowledge the new members of our community throughout the Easter Season. I proposed that they wear their Baptismal robes throughout the season and was met with a re-sounding, “No.” I thought of name tags but that did not seem quite appropriate and then this year I thought of a pew and so this year we are going to give it a try. We will mark off a different pew each week and ask the new members who joined at Easter to sit in the marked pew with their family and friends.
This will allow the community to identify our new members and welcome them into the community and hopeful-ly get to know them. Throughout this Easter season I encourage you to get to know at least one of our new mem-bers. Help them to feel an important part of our community.
I pray for each of you that Lent was a time of growing closer to God and improving your relationship with your brothers and sisters. I hope you were able to establish new habits of prayer, love or service during this special season. If you were not able to remain faithful to your Lenten plan or allowed Lent to pass you by with little or no thought do not give up hope. The love and mercy of our God allows us to start over each and every day, each and every moment. Lent is over but God is ever present and desires more than anything to speak with us and have a deeper relationship with us.

“They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him”
John 20-1-9
When Mary of Magdala entered the tomb where the body of Jesus had been hastily lain she was surprised to see that his body was no longer in the tomb. She logi-cally concluded that his body had been taken. Jesus had tried to prepare his disciples and friends that he would be killed and then rise from the dead, but it was a concept they were slow to comprehend. Mary of Mag-dala runs to tell the disciples, who are behind locked doors. In light of all that had happened over the past three days they had good reason to be frightened. Peter and John rush to the tomb and find it empty. They re-call what Jesus had foretold. Still, they did not fully un-derstand. They would eventually encounter the resur-rected Jesus several times and come to believe. The strength of their faith is demonstrated by the risk they took, the trials they endured and the deaths they faced for proclaiming the Good News of the Life, Death and Resurrection of Jesus. Today we celebrate his Resur-rection. How strong is our faith? How do we demon-strate our faith?

ENJOY THE CONVENIENCE OF ELECTRONIC GIVING
Holy Name Parish wants to remind you that we offer electronic giving as a way to automate your regular weekly offering.
Electronic giving offers convenience for individual congrega"on members and provides much-needed dona"on con-
sistency for our congrega"on.
Direct Debit Giving is used to automa"cally transfer funds from your checking or savings account to the church’s bank
account.
Credit & Debit Card Giving allows you to make offerings automa"cally on a pre-determined schedule using a credit or
debit card.
Online Giving allows you to go to www.holynameparish.net and click on Give Now. At any "me you can set up an au-
toma"c dona"on plan, change your dona"on plan, make a one-"me dona"on or view your online dona"on histo-
ry.
As you contemplate future contribu"ons, please consider electronic giving. Addi!onal help is always available from the
church office.
If it seems like there’s a smartphone app for everything these days — paying for coffee, checking in for a flight, ar-
ranging for a ride — it’s because apps make life easier. Church members are looking for the same ease and convenience
when it comes to giving.
Quickly and easily donate using a debit/credit card or checking/savings account
Make one-"me dona"ons or set up recurring giving to mul"ple funds
Choose to create an account or donate as a guest
Securely and conveniently manage dona"ons using Touch ID/Fingerprint, PIN or password
Search for “GivePlus Church” to quickly find and download the app today!
