Easter Sunday April 12, 2020

Reading I: Acts 10:34a,37-43 Responsorial Psalm 118:1-2,16-17,22-23 Reading II: Colossians 3:1-4 or 1 Cor 5:6b-8 Gospel: John 201-9 or Matthew 28:1-10 or Luke 24:13-35

Theme: “I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He

is not here, for he has been raised just as he said” (Mt. 28:5b-6a).

It is Easter Sunday and with the world still affected by the corona virus, it still feels like Good Friday. I feel helpless when I cannot come to anoint parishioners who are dying. May the Lord rescue and be with us in these difficult times. I pray that you are all well, safe, and healthy. A blessed Easter! May the blessings of our Risen Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

When Pope Francis was asked how he is living through the pandemic crisis? He answered, “I’m living this as a time of great uncertainty. It’s a time for inventing, for creativity. The creativity of the Christian needs to show forth in opening up new horizons, opening windows, opening transcendence toward God and toward people, and in creating new ways of being at home. It’s not easy to be confined to your house.” Easter time reminds us of God’s power over darkness, disease, sin, and death. Jesus Christ is our light, hope, and resurrection. The reason why Good Friday is called Good Friday is because of Jesus’ death on the cross, we are all saved! It is also the beginning of the resurrection. In Jesus as the Son of God, there is no darkness but only light.

We look beyond the darkness of pandemic crisis. St. Paul tells us, “Think of what is above, not of what is on earth” (Colossians 3:2). We look forward to our own resurrection, beyond the effects of any disease, suffering, and death. The tomb is not our destiny but Jesus Christ who prepares a place for us.

We are people of hope and life. We belong to God who is kind and merciful. May we persevere in faith and not lose heart, as we believe in Christ. “To him all the prophets bear witness, that everyone who believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins through his name" (Acts 10:43).

Let us pray: Almighty God and Father, you love your children so much that you gave us you only begotten Son Jesus Christ. Rescue us from fear and spare us from all harm and sickness. Give us hope that will never falter. Strengthen our faith and teach us to trust you always, through the Risen Christ, and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever, Amen.

Domingo de Pascua 12 de abril de 2020

Lectura I: Hechos 10: 34a, 37-43 Salmo Responsorial 118: 1-2,16-17,22-23 Lectura II: Colosenses 3: 1-4 o 1 Cor 5: 6b-8 Evangelio: Juan 201-9 o Mateo 28: 1-10 o Lucas 24: 13-35

Pastoral Reflection By Allan Ford, Office Manager

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad” (Psalm 118:24).

This Easter for everyone will be one to remember because of the extraordinary pandemic we are living through. It also gives us a new way at looking at families, the world and ourselves of what truly matters here on earth; our love for one another. A rebirth and total renewal with Jesus’ resurrection to be grateful for all the interactions with our family, friends & strangers… grateful for all the hugs that will have deeper meaning now. More grateful for the food on our table. So much thankfulness and longing when we will receive Christ in the Eucharist on our tongues and within our souls. This love for Christ will keep us strong and patient knowing that one day we all can embrace Him and one another. Jesus’ true Love is victorious over death and that gives us confidence to be joyous under any circumstances. Life will get back to normal and I want to thank Jesus for opening up my eyes for all the small blessings that I have taken for granted which are Awesome blessings now. Stay safe and may God protect you and your families.

Archdiocese issues precautionary guidelines regarding coronavirus. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, sneezing, going to the bathroom, and before eating or preparing food. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Stay home when you are sick. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. 2. Please consider making Offerings for tithing online at the same website with a one time gift or a reoccurring gift. Thank you for your support in these difficult times. 3. Special Message to our Holy Name Parishioners: With the uncertainty of the community around us, Holy Name Parish Finance and Festival leadership including Fr. Martin, came together and after much discussion, agreed the best decision was to cancel this year's (2020) Festival and Raffle, as we know it. The coronavirus situation is taking its toll on many of us, including Holy Name Parish. As these events settle down, our parish leadership will plan a New Raffle and a New Rescheduled date for our Bingo fundraiser, later this year. Those that have already purchased Raffle or Bingo tickets have the option of getting their money back or allowing us to reissue a New Raffle or Bingo ticket, when New fundraising plans are finalized. BBQ plate tickets already purchased, can be refunded at office after the “Shelter at Home” order is lifted. Additionally, the lack of all public masses have hurt our weekly income but expenses don't stop. Your continued financial support throughout this time is very much appreciated and can be done several ways. · Online (recurring and easy one-time Quick Give). Visit our church website and click on Donate button for setup instructions. www.holynameusa.org · Mail in your weekly donation. Use your Postage Paid envelopes that come in your envelopes box. · Drop off your weekly offering/tithe at church office. Finally, we have reserved Comanche Park #2 for our "2021" Festival to be held; on April 25. Mark your calendars! We pray that you will join us at next year's festival. Thank you to all our parishioners for all you do. May our good Lord hear our prayers and keep us safe and healthy. Respectfully yours, Miguel Puga, Chairman, Finance Council. 4. Palm Sunday Palms will be distributed after the Decree by Archbishop Gustavo is lifted. We will let everyone know when this will happen for everyone to get Blessed Palms so please stay patient and strong. Thank You. 5. Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Guadalupe invites you to join our ministry. Anyone (men or women) are invited and welcomed to join.
