Reading I: Jeremiah 23:1-6 Responsorial Psalm: 23:1-3,3-4,5-6 Reading II: Ephesians 2:13-18 Gospel: Mark 6:30-34 Theme: “They were like sheep without a shepherd; and he

began to teach them many things” (Gospel). In a good economy, work is gold. We thank God for giving us the opportunity to work and therefore provide for family and for ourselves. No one disputes abundance, prosperity, and happiness. It is the need to maintain the blessing of work without being shortchanged and broken at the end of the day. The advice of the Lord is indeed necessary, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while” (Gospel). Rest, reflect, meditate, and pray in order to put back into perspective what was eaten up by haste and hurry. “Hurry is a form of violence exercised upon time an attempt, as it were, to make time God's time our own, our private property” (Donald Nicholl). You know when you are tired, exhausted, and stretched out. There are always responsibilities to attend and bills to pay but not at the expense of relationships, health, and life. We juggle too many items and over extend ourselves to the point that we damage life we wish to sustain and protect. Too much on the plate, there is no time to digest and enjoy. Ora et Labora (Prayer and Work) is what St. Benedict of Nursia promoted. In his short rule, he encouraged monks to live a life of balance and moderation to attain wholeness and holiness of life. Too much of everything can be a poison to the body and soul. Eight of hours of sleep, eight hours of work, and eight hours of prayer are good prescriptions to a quality, productive, and peaceful life. Have devotion to the Holy Eucharist and regularly meditate on His word. We should know when too much work becomes harmful to the body, mind, and soul. After all, being busy is not tantamount to being productive or happy. Work can be an escape or flight from an important relationship or moral obligation that you need to face or address. When work is an excuse to attend to a more serious obligation in life, it is a moral and spiritual flight, therefore a sin, that is, missing the point. Let us pray: Lord, teach us to be still and know that you are God (Psalm 46:10). Grant us serenity in the right cadence of life. May we trust in your mercy as you sustain us with your love and generosity, Amen.

Pastoral Reflection By Raymund Miles, Pastoral Council Member

I invited the Holy Spirit and reflected for this weekend’s readings and the message that touched my heart is: Being a Shepherd. Most of us in this country have never met a shepherd or considered being one who tends sheep, but the early church was quite familiar with what was required. Some of the requirements are around the clock care (safety, recognizing the sick, tending the wounded, finding good pasture for grazing, protecting from predators, and more). The qualities of a spiritual shepherd was demonstrated by Jesus who brought unity, peace, reconciliation, teaching, rest, hope, and mercy. In the church the position of a spiritual shepherd has been handed down through the bishops, priests and deacons. We are blessed with spirit filled shepherds that will speak the whole truth, care for us, and guide us on the road to eternal life. We are encouraged to be shepherds to others to go out into the world, proclaim the full truth and carry out works in love. God has entrusted all of us with this care for His beloved children. He has equipped us with the Holy Spirit, who empowers us with all we need. Here is a great check list I found that helped me improve in areas of my life. https://thosecatholicmen.com/articles/a-checklist-for-catholic-dads/ By Randy Hain Surrender. We have to surrender on an ongoing basis to Christ for his will to be done in our lives. Be a Man of Prayer. Our children will be much more likely to pray if we do. Work on developing a daily prayer routine with the goal of at least an hour a day devoted to prayer. Understand Our True Vocation. For those of us blessed to be married and have children, we must recognize that helping our families get to heaven and being good husbands and fathers—not our busi-ness careers—is our real vocation. Invest Time. Our children need our time. Put down the smartphone; turn off the TV; cancel the golf outing. Let’s spend more time with our kids! Be Courageous. Christians are meant to stand out, not blend in. Blending in speaks to conforming so that our faith becomes part of the mainstream … and we need to fight the culture. Practice Detachment. Are we too focused on acquiring toys, bigger houses, nicer cars, or the next promotion? We need to let go of the things that are in the way of our prayer lives, Mass attendance, charitable giving, volunteering, time with our families, and certainly our relationship with Christ. Love Our Wives. Husbands, we must love and cherish our wives, plain and simple.

Parish Mission Statement: To unite our Parish family to grow in faith, love, and charity as we become active stewards in our church and community.

This weekend marks the official start of the On the Way - ¡Ándale! Capital Campaign. Our parish target is $513,000.00. If you didn’t get a chance to see the campaign video, please let me know or visit the campaign website: www.ontheway-andale.org. This week you will be receiving a letter from me. Some of you may have already received it. The letter includes a specific amount that I would like you to consider prayerfully. Please review the campaign material, pray about your response, and continue to spread the positive message about this important effort! Also, many of you will soon be receiving a phone call from a campaign volunteer. This fellow parishioner will be setting an appointment to visit with you to answer your questions and complete your pledge card. Be sure to say thanks for his/her dedication and commitment to the On the Way - ¡Ándale! Campaign. Continue to say the campaign prayer for Holy Name’s success and for your hard-working campaign volunteers who are giving of their time and hearts. Stewardship Message: Your first responsibility is to take care of your needs and the needs of your family – not necessarily all their wants. In looking at what we need versus what we want, we end up placing material things and money in their proper perspective.

Holy Name Catholic Church Archdiocese Capital Campaign

Did you Know? Parish Fact We have 2677 Registered Parishioners. Only 1/3 of our Parishioners are active, 892.

Capital Campaign Goal: $513,000.00 40% Share to Holy Name: $205,200.00 Proceeds for Multi-Purpose Building Phase #1 Classrooms, Outreach Ministry, CYO & Meeting Room Phase #2 Gymnasium

HOW DO WE ATTAIN OUR GOAL? If we take the active families (892) and divide into our Campaign Goal, the average pledge per family would be $576.00. $513,000.00 divided by 892 families = $576.00 This Campaign is a 3 Year Family Pledge… 3 year pledge would break it down to $16.00 dollars per month, per family.

$576.00 divided by 36 months = $16.00 If you want to break it down by the week it would be $3.69 dollars.

$576.00 divided by 156 weeks = $3.69 By explaining this formula, Parishioners will realize that this pledge is attainable and can be met. “For it is in Giving, that we Receive” (St. Francis of Assisi). ______________________________________________________________________

¿Sabías? Hecho Parroquial Tenemos 2677 parroquianos registrados.
