Our Annu- al Christmas Celebration is scheduled for Sunday, December 14, 2015. Again this year we will be making the homemade dumplings in advance. We are asking for donations of flour, chicken broth and your time to help make the dumplings. If you can donate some flour or can of chicken broth please drop them off at the back of church or at the Parish Office. We are planning to make dumplings on two separate dates which will be announced soon. So get your rolling pin ready! We will need enough dumplings to fill at least 8 roasters this year. We are planning to offer bulk dumpling sales—something everyone has been asking for. Thanks to everyone who supported the Butterbraid Fund Rais- er Total Sales were $1,611.00 and resulted in $644.00 profit. Special thanks to the top three sellers who sold $292, $235 and $212 of products. Great job to all! Over the past few weeks I have been researching old Knights of Columbus archives attempting to compile a listing of names of the departed Brother Knights. It has been a monumental undertaking trying to dig up records since many were lost in the K of C fire of 1963. But through efforts a good list spanning back to 1968 has been assembled. As I typed each name into the data base it suddenly hit me, I knew most of these good departed Catholic Men. Some were good friends, some I knew through the organization and others through Parish activities. But I could easily recall something about most of them that I remembered. With the last name input into the data base I recorded 173 individuals who were walking, talking people living their lives for their family, God and church. Remembering the Faithfully Departed Souls is something that we as Catholics do during November. Praying for the dead is a Christian obligation. In the modern world, when many have come to doubt the Church's teaching on Purgatory, the need for such prayers has only increased. The Church devotes the month of November to prayer for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, and participation in the Mass of All Souls Day is a good way to begin the month . On All Souls Day, we not only remember the dead, but we apply our efforts, through prayer, almsgiving, and the Mass, to their release from Purgatory. This year All Souls Day falls on a Sunday so we remember All Souls at our Sunday Mass. Often overshadowed by the two days preceding it, Halloween (October 31) and All Saints Day (November 1), All Souls Day is a solemn celebration in the Roman Catholic Church com- memorating all of those who have died and now are in Purgatory, being cleansed of their venial sins and the temporal punishments for the mortal sins that they had confessed and atoning before entering fully into Heaven. Today remember the faithful souls in your prayer.
