Holy Family School Newsletter
November 30, 2016
What a November this has been! It seemed to pass by in a blink of an eye. I want to thank all of you for your well wishes, thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time for my family and me. I am blessed to be part of such a wonderful community of believers. We truly are one family for each other.
A big thank you to Parents’ Club for all of their hard work on the Main Event! It was a huge success. Everyone who attended the event had a great time and enjoyed the entertainment. We are so blessed to have so many volunteers that helped ensure that the event was a success.
This week we celebrated the beginning of Advent. On Monday, we had a wonderful prayer service highlighting the symbols of the Jesse tree. Jesse was the father of the great King David of the Old Testament. He is often looked upon as the first person in the genealogy of Jesus. The ornaments on the tree had pictures of other Old and New Testament figures who were ancestors of Jesus. In our prayer service, our students told the story of the tradition of the Jesse tree as others brought forward the symbols to hang on the tree. We thank Maddie Ludwig for playing the harp throughout the ser-vice. It was a beautiful addition to the story.
Advent is a time for us to prepare ourselves for the coming of the Lord. It is not just a time of waiting and preparing, it is a time to fill our hearts with love, joy, and thanksgiving as we anticipate the birth of Jesus. I am thankful to you for providing us the opportunity to cultivate the young minds in our care. We will contin-ue to fill the students with the love of God, the wisdom, knowledge, and peace of the Lord.
I wanted to share some student and parent feedback from our surveys about our implementation of
the 1:1 Chromebook iniative. Student feedback: When asked, "How has your Chromebook been an effective
learning tool for you this quarter?" "My chromebook was an effective learning tool for this quarter because it kept me organized." "Because learning is more fun on technology than in books." "It has been effective in keeping me more organized, and I have been able to use web resources." Parent feedback: When asked, "How has your child's Chromebook been an effective learning tool at home during the first quarter?" "He is much more engaged and interested in studying/working with eBooks, and finds it easier to focus." "It has allowed our child to become more of an independent learner and also has allowed her to be more effective and efficient in her studies." "My child has shown more independence with her organization, and completing work on time using the chromebook. She also really enjoys researching information using her Chromebook. I've seen an overall increase in enthusiasm for learning since the intro-duction of the 1 to 1 Chromebooks." "My son enjoys the review aspects of the Chromebook. He also finds the ability of emailing teachers a comfort."
Our Math and Technology committees are meeting to address various concerns that have been raised since the implementation of block scheduling and Chromebooks. I am looking for input from parents on these topics. Please feel free to email your concerns or questions.
Looking ahead to December, we have many activities planned. Please watch for the week’s happenings so
that you don’t miss out on any events!
In God’s Love, Mrs. Fournier

Christian Leaders BLAST out of this World!
Our school was founded on the Gospel teachings of Christ. Students are immersed in our faith throughout their
day. Our mission is to ensure that we provide a Christ-centered, loving environment so that students become
disciples of Jesus. Just as we, parents and faculty, serve as role models for our children, so too, do our children
witness to others.
In an effort to recognize those students who consistently display the Christian qualities of trustworthiness, re-
spect, responsibility, fairness, love and kindness, citizenship and service to others, we will award one student
from each homeroom each quarter the Principal’s Award for Christian Leadership.
The students recognized for Christian Leadership in the
second quarter are:
KA Cate Datkuliak 1A Ellie Holtz 1B Ava Nichols 2A Kyle Boozer 2B Madeline Solley 3A Alex Perduk 3B Christopher Barbara 4A James McCarthy 4B Victoria Schmitz
5A Alexander Hanff 5B Emily Swanson 6A Spencer Rettkowski 6B Maggie McCarthy 7A Matthew Schell 7B Michael Braidy 8A Nick Becker 8B Steven Hauck
Dear Friends of Holy Family School, As we took a break for the Thanksgiving weekend, I reflected that we have so much for which to be grateful. Our families, our children, our Holy family School Community -- so many blessings -- so much gratitude! I am grateful for the support you have given to Mrs. Fournier during her time of sadness with the loss of both her husband, Ernie, and her mother. Thank you, also, for supporting the Faculty and Staff as they rallied to keep the School running smoothly. Holy Family School is truly a loving community. We had a wonderful Main Event a couple of weeks ago. The Parents’ Club is to be congratulated for all the hard work! I had a great time—and sensed that everyone else had a similar experience. Thank you to all who made this possible. I understand that the results were very gratifying -- but I'll leave that for the Committee to have the fun of making the announcement. You are reminded of the VIRTUS recertification training—required for continued volunteer activity be-yond January 31, 2017. There will be a session tonight -- Wednesday, November 30, at 7:00pm in the Father Szabo Parish Center. I hope that you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration—whether you were celebrat-ing here at home or traveling “over the river and through the woods” to family gatherings elsewhere. When I was talking to the Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders on Monday, it was fun to hear their per-spectives on these family gatherings – and the part they played in making them a success! Sounds like many memories were created. We are already in the Season of Advent as a Church community. With the secular push to celebrate “the holidays”, it is always a struggle to keep Jesus as “the Reason for the Season”. We will be trying to do that in the School setting during these coming weeks– and trust that you will be trying to maintain that focus at home as well. I’m looking forward to the Christmas concert (December 13 at 6:30pm) with our K-4 students, our Band and Choir. Al-ways an entertaining evening! May God bless and keep you. Fr. Paul Rosing

14th Annual Holiday Bazaar Update
This year’s Holiday Bazaar was held on Saturday & Sunday, October 29 & 30 and was a great way to
ring in the holiday shopping season. Over 25 retail and boutique consultants participated and hun-
dreds of shoppers came to enjoy the festivities at this event sponsored by the Parents’ Club. THANK
YOU to all the wonderful volunteers who helped to make the event such a success! We also appreciate
all the bakers who donated their delicious goodies! Over $3,000 was raised and proceeds from this
annual shopping event will benefit M.O.M.S. Ministry and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
This year’s Scholastic book fair was a huge success! This very popular event was filled with books, contests and FUN! Thank you to all the volun-teers who helped to make this the BEST book fair yet. We also raised $350 (and purchased 70 easy reader books) with our All for Books promotion for Flor Azul School in Honduras. A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to Mrs. Sue Powers, our awesome chairperson for this event…she spent MANY hours planning and creating and organizing and the book fair would-n’t have been such a success without her!
Holy Family’s Bookaneer Book Fair
Mark your calendars! Holy Family
School’s annual Hat and Mitten drive will
be the week of December 12-16. More
information to follow soon!
On behalf of M.O.M.S. Ministry and the families we are honored to serve, we want to say thank you to ALL who helped to make this year's Holiday Bazaar a success. Student volunteers, teacher volunteers, ministry mom volunteers, St. Vincent DePaul volunteers, bakers and shoppers, and anybody we may have forgotten, please know that you made a difference. The proceeds from this event will help replenish our nest egg as we prepare for Christmas. Special thanks go out to Mrs. Krinsky for all of her hard work! Without her we would have no Holiday Bazaar! God Bless! Missy Wells and Cathy Reeves

With your help the “Pajamas for Kids” program hopes to provide a new pair of pajamas for every child who benefits from Holy Family’s Christmas giving programs. During the week of November 28 – December 2 we are asking students in grades PreK- 2 to join us in expanding Holy Family’s Giving Tree and Mom’s Ministry programs by providing pajamas for a child in need. Pajamas may be purchased for boys and girls in sizes 6 months through adult. Our greatest need this year is pajamas in youth sizes 8 through 18 for boys and girls. Please deposit pajamas in the hallway collection bins during our drive.
Thank you for your generosity!
