A nice entry of pigs today saw spirited bidding on a day where the smaller they
were, the dearer they went. Overall top call was £110 given for the best of the
sows with others at £108 and £100. Lee Miles travelled up from Cambourne to
sell prime pigs to £95 with others from the same farm at £80. Trever Dawe of
Bradworthy saw his lightweights reach £76 with the best of the stores hitting £65
for coloured stores in from Mike Bridgman of Winkleigh.

First to be sold were the goats which saw a
splendid trade with a top call of £125 for a small
Pigmy goat from Messrs Vallance of West Devon.
Messrs Warren of Exeter enjoyed success with his
3 18mth olds reaching £96 with Mike Bridgman’s
consignment of 6wk old commercial wether goats
to a top call of £57 with others at £52 from the
same good home.
A strong entry of sheep travelled to Holsworthy from
all over the South West and saw plenty of buyers ready
to spend. Top call of the day was £800 given for the
Valais Blacknose ram in from Chris Slee of Halsbury.
For the first time ever Kivells of Holsworthy saw an
entry of Dutch Spotted sheep sell to a top call of £500
on behalf of Ted Haste of Shebbear. A good line up of
Jacob sheep saw Mark Larney top the day at £180, and a quality consignment of 5 pens of pure Jacob ewes (flock
ages) at £105, £103 & £90 on behalf of Mrs VM
Chugg of Barnstaple. Other highlights included
Sue Martyn of Boyton hitting £330 & £280 for
her pedigree Border Leicester rams and her
ewes to £270. Claire Anderson came up from
Tredoggett to sell her Dorset ewes really well
at £172 whilst the best of the Kerry Hills flew
past £100 on behalf of Messrs Jeffery.
All in all, a highly successful entry of sheep with both buyers and sellers going home happy.
DEVON & CORNWALL LONGWOOL FLOCKBOOK ASSOCIATION 2ND SEASON SALE – 11:30am

The Champion Ram ‘Kersbrook Keith’ topped the sale at 380gns (£399) on
behalf of Messrs GM & DW Tucker of Launceston however the overall
Ram trade was very selective. Messrs JG & SG Tancock from Callington
sold an older 4T Ram at 210gns (£220) with a Shealing Ram from our
Judge Sadie Champion selling at 180gns (£189). Older Rams on behalf of
Mr EMC Bax sold at 120gns (£126) and Mr H Pearse of Newton Abbot
sold a 4T older Ram at 100gns (£105). Mr JR Julyan from Truro sold his
Shearling Ram that won best Wool in Class at 140gns (£147).
The females saw a faster trade with older ewes selling particularly well.
The First Prize pen was a very smart group of 5 6T Ewes from Mr H Newcombe of Brixham that sold well at
170gns (£179). Shearling 2T’s topped at 130gns (£137) for Messrs MH Coumbe & Son of Callington. A smart
pen of 4 Ewe Lambs from Mr JR Julyan of Truro sold at 105gns (£111).

A full market of poultry saw a trade that was tremendous for the best and
ok for the rest! Top call of the day was £82 given for Silkie Bantams in
from Messrs Jasper of Callington whilst large Light Sussex hit £75 for a trio in from Messrs Agricola Growers with another pen at £50. Jason Kestell
of Launceston sold his Gold Bantams well at £30 with plenty of buyers
ready to spend for the right thing.
