SEAN KEOHANE Building Services Custodian, Metro-North Railroad

What is one interesting fact about you that you want people to know? I’m deaf and use American Sign Language (ASL). I can read lips if words are mouthed clearly or read body language.

How long have you been working here? 10 years in December

What’s your favorite time of the year in Grand Central? The holidays, with the building decked out in beautiful lights. It’s so full of spirit.

Are there any challenges you face in your position? Yes, sometimes people speak to me too fast and I have to tell them I’m deaf. They say “sorry” and still have the patience to communicate with

me, which is a wonderful thing. If people ask me where the Apple Store is, I can guide them there. Sometimes it’s easy to communicate, sometimes it’s tough.

What do you like best about Grand Central? It’s a beautiful landmark full of history—you see a lot of tourists every day, too!

Where do you get a bite to eat/drink in Grand Central? Starbucks and Shake Shack!

Whether you’re grabbing a cocktail, shopping, or taking a train, you’ll discover it’s the people that make Grand Central so special.

THE PEOPLE of GRAND CENTRAL

ESTRELLA GRANT-BRIGGS Conductor, Metro-North Railroad

How long have you been working for Metro-North? 18 years

You were recently nominated for an award; can you tell us a bit about that? I am a recipient of the Metro-North President’s award. It is the highest honor bestowed on an employee for exemplary customer service and the ability to impact fellow coworkers with positivity and graciousness.  I was nominated and elected the award recipient by my coworkers. Just to know that I am respected and adored and that they felt I deserved this award leaves me humble, grateful, and speechless.

What’s your favorite part about working at Grand Central? I have an early AM start when there are few people in the Terminal. It’s very quiet. But around 11 AM it’s a bustling, noisy, exciting place with working people, tourists, and New Yorkers visiting. I find it amazing how the same place can be so different in a matter of hours.

Do you have a favorite MNR route? Why is it your favorite? The New Haven line aka the Red line is my favorite. There are so many different types of people with interesting things to say. I love the Red.

Where do you get a bite to eat in Grand Central? When I want to treat myself I go to Tri Tip Grill on the lower level for their tostado salad. Muy delicioso.

Any favorite experiences in Grand Central? Every day is something new; with the architecture, mesmerizing ceiling art, different events held in Vanderbilt Hall, and the complexity of the train tracks throughout the tunnel. I can go on and on and on about this place.

PARIS DURANTE Bartender, The Campbell Bar

How long have you been working as a bartender? For about 30 years At Grand Central? About 17 years, minus a hiatus as The Campbell was redone.

What’s your favorite cocktail at The Campbell? The GG Manhattan

Most popular cocktail? The Classic Old Fashioned

What’s your favorite part about working at Grand Central? Walking across the Main Concourse after it has closed. An empty Grand Central is pretty serene.

Do you have a favorite movie that was filmed here? Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest,

which is one of my favorite movies, period.

What’s your favorite thing about The Campbell to share with guests? The fact that there are no ghosts here. I have witnessed no paranormal activity. People ask about that a lot.

Where do you get a bite to eat/drink in Grand Central? The Oyster Bar, I’m old school.

JUDE & ASHLEIGH VERRIER Co-founders & Co-owners, VERRIER HANDCRAFTED

What products do you sell? VERRIER HANDCRAFTED is a stationery lifestyle brand showcasing Ashleigh’s original artwork and the 2017 collection presents a strong NYC fashion influence. We offer hand-painted and hand-glittered greeting cards, along with prints in a variety of sizes. In

addition, Ashleigh’s designs are captured on box sets, purses, totes, cosmetic bags, luggage tags, mugs, pins, etc.

How many years have you participated in the Holiday Fair? This will be our 4th year participating. YAY!

What’s your favorite part about the Grand Central Holiday Fair? We are a music-oriented family, so we particularly enjoy the seasonal music that brings cheer into the Hall.

What makes this experience different than any other holiday market? Personally, we feel a special bond with Vanderbilt Hall because this event was our first venture to participate in a holiday market in NYC as a small company— Fair management, fellow vendors, and shoppers are so supportive with their welcoming spirits.

Grand Central has developed a fresh and modern mark with historic significance for the millions who visit us in person and online every year.

The logo, which was developed in partnership with creative agency the watsons, acknowledges the building’s history and celebrates its identity as a modern destination.

The design process began with a study of the original architecture to find a mark that has been part of the building since its opening in 1913. What was discovered was a circular marble relief monogram with the letters “G,” “C,” and “T” found in five locations above the Main Concourse ticket windows. The

relief served as an inspiration for the logo, with the biggest influences coming from Grand Central’s architecture and interior design:

• The circular shape is inspired by circular forms found around the building: the exposed lightbulbs of the beaux-arts chandeliers and the faces of the famed Info Booth and Tiffany Clocks.

• The gold and black colors have long been associated with the Terminal.

• In a nod to Grand Central’s railroad history, enthusiasts will notice that the spike in the letter “G” echoes the shape of a train spike used along the tracks.

A NEW LOGO, A NEW ERA

The public can view the new logo in signage and marketing materials around the landmark building, as well as on the Terminal’s newly updated website grandcentralterminal.com

With a design that echoes the beaux-arts beauty of Grand Central itself, the website features visitor information, a full shopping and dining directory, and all the latest news and events.

A robust history section, produced in collaboration with the New York Transit Museum, tells the remarkable story of Grand Central. Gift guides and special offers make shopping a breeze (and a steal!) and both tour and transportation info make planning your visit easy and fun.

The next time you’re in the Terminal, look around you, and remember that everything old can be new again.

Visit youtube.com/grandcentralterminalnewyork to watch a video illustrating the logo’s transformation.
