Dear Shri Dinesh Trivedi ji,

At the outset, I compliment you to taking initiative for conductingFeasibility Study for a High Speed Rail Corridor connectingChennai - Bangalore - Coimbatore - Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram.My Gover-!1ment will extend full support for early implementation ofthis important project which connects imp6'ftant South Indian cities.

In this connection, I want to bring to your kind attention thecrucial need to include Bangalore-Mysorc high speed rail connectivityin the proposed High Speed Rail Corridor project of Indian Railways.

Vibrant industrial activities are taking place in theBangalore-Mysore route. There is fast increasing travel betweenBangalore and Mysore due to the growth of Information Technologyrelated industry with Mysore city emerging as the second largestsoftware exporter ip the State. The proposed Bangalore ..Mysore high..speed rail connectivity will also encourage decongestion of Bangaloreand dispersion· of population from the city of Bangalore. Mysore is thetourist attraction of the State· .•Various tourist attractions in Mysore(e.g. Mysore Palace, Vrindavan Garden etc.) are visited by over thirtylakh tourists every year - both domestic and foreign - \vith mostarriva]s from Banga10re City, which is only about 140 Krn. away fromIV!yscre thus en3.]:Ij"6 3. :1a)' tri[: tho.t i:3 rn;;3t 01.::jt;:,;)~1r:: for L]iC piOfu:::;eJhigh s~)eed rail travel.

Hence, it is proposed to develop a High Speed Rail Connectivitybetv/ccn B8ng8~ore and Mysorc .. Provision of this corridor would resultin the deve10pment of an urban corridor and also these cities becOJningtwin-cities. 'vVe expect a large scale FDI during the next few ycars inthis industrial belt.

The Japan Paihvay Technical Service Team. visited Bangalor~ andinteracted with the State Govt officials. They also felt the need forChennai-Bangalore-Mysore route. The report has proposed ju~ctionarrangement at· Krisj1nagiri from where high -;peed rail rOl).tes '.v111

The proposed high speed rail linkage of Bangalore-Mysore will beheavily utilized by tourism, IT and commuter traffic between Bangalor<::and Mysore and result in huge shift from:road and air to rail, which ismore sustainable mode of travel due tt> far lower fuel consumption, carbon emi"ssions and accidents. Currently, KSRTC runs 1000 bustrips between Bangalore carrying 35,000 passengers daily, a majorshare is expected to shift to high speed rail in the future thus reducingthe fuel consumption, carbon emissions and road accidents. Inaddition, a huge number of commuter trips are expected betweenBangalore and Mysore as people settle in less congested areas nearMysore and travel daily to Bangalore:- Thus, Bangalore-Mysore highspeed rail route will run to capacity right from the start of operationsand ensure financial viability for the proposed high speed rail corridorproject of Railways.

Ccnsidel-ing the above facts, I req~est you to kindly includeBangalore- Mysore route also in the above High Speed Rail Corridor.

With regards,

'Dp.

Shxi Dhlesh Trivedi,I-ion'b1eMinister for Railways,Governrilen t of India,Roorn No. 239, Rail Bhawan,Ne-w Delhi - 110 001.
