While integrity is a seemingly insignificant part of one’s character, it is possibly the most difficult portion to understand and even considerably more challenging to demonstrate properly.  The general perception of integrity these days seems to be doing the right thing. While this is certainly not a bad start, it lacks a critical endpoint. It should say doing the right thing, when nobody else is watching.  In this case, those five additional words make all of the difference. They are, in a sense, key to the understanding of this word. What many people don’t realize with this seemingly simple concept is the difficulty of refusing the temptation that life and its various situations offer up.  While avoiding temptations may sound like a simple concept, most don’t realize where the temptations will arise from and how it impacts their choices. One of the most abundant sources of temptation is money, and why shouldn’t it be? In today’s world, currency runs our land and governs the everyday choices that people make. Each action and each decision is swayed by opportunity costs and actual costs. Because of this, people will often do whatever it takes to save a quick buck even if it means doing something often looked down upon.  Another thing that often tempts people are those that allow them to save time without giving any additional effort. The main setting for this is in schoolwork or in the workplace. The problem with cutting corners on schoolwork is not the short-term consequences of poor grades, but the repercussions that it will have when applying for college and college scholarships. It may seem great to be finished with homework a few minutes or even hours earlier, you will certainly be thanking yourself in the future when you are going into your freshman year of college with considerably fewer bills to pay.  Although it is important not to cut corners in school, it could be argued that it is even more crucial to avoid doing it in the workplace, where it could result in being demoted, or even fired. Usually this happens when the employee is least expecting it. What we as high

school students often don’t realize at this age is that in a professional work environment, there are rarely second chances when it comes to laziness. In all situations, the only possible way to avoid having trouble for any given reason is to not cause reason to be in trouble. If everyone simply had the integrity to do what is right all the time, even when others aren’t around, then consequences would lessen and people would generally be happier and more trusting towards their fellow humans.

MAKING IT HAPPEN

They Mean BusinessDECA and FBLA students are busily preparing for their fast-approaching district competition.

February 14. This is the date when America’s future corporate leaders step outside to test their entrepreneurial grit not only for practice, but also for competition. Ties will be tied, hands will be shaken, business partners will synergize, and blood may be cried out of someone’s tear ducts. If DECA wants to bring home the gold from districts, they need to have a battle strategy. “This is what we have practiced for in class. We have practiced the role-plays. This is what DECA was made for,” DECA club sponsor Kayla Leatherman said. The DECA districts, just like the districts for sports, are held annually. During districts, DECA students will partake in different marketing related challenges, from role-playing to project presentations. “Students can go, compete, and do role-plays with judges where they are given a scenario and a problem and they need to solve it,” Leatherman said. Of course,

the scenarios given all deal with marketing. “Last year the prompt was that my partner, Miranda Mart, and I worked for an American company that wanted to expand into the Middle East,” junior Madison Upton said. “However, the paperwork for the expansion takes a long time to process. In the Middle East, a lot of businesses use bribes to get the papers in and out more quickly, so we had to decide whether or not to put in a bribe. We decided to uphold the American values and not bribe.”    Last year was Upton’s first year at districts and she played the average part. This year she is the DECA vice president of fundraising and she has a different part to play. “This year I’m doing a written event. I am going to present my ping-pong project on a PowerPoint to the judges,” Upton said. All the way back in November, DECA held a ping-pong tournament fundraiser that Upton had

come up with and directed herself. Needless to say, Upton is not the only player in this game of cubicles and committees. “Anyone who paid to be in DECA can go,” Leatherman said. Once again, just like every activity that has a district, state comes afterward. State is the big time, and that is what the LSHS DECA group is aiming for. “I want to advance to state in March. To get to state, I will have to place in the top 3 this year,” Upton said.  “I just want everyone to feel prepared and do his or her best. I also want some students to go to state. I want students to feel like they gained something from it,” Leatherman said.    As mentioned before, if DECA wants to get the gold, then they will have to knock the argyle socks off of the judges’ feet with their presentations. Very recently DECA had a practice competition to prepare for this event, and the results

Fast Sales. FBLA and DECA run the Tiger Store to prep themselves in the way business for competitions like the one Feb. 14.

were fantastic. “It went pretty well. Everyone got great experience, and one of my teams did really well. Madison got second in her writing event, only a mere quarter point lower than first place,” Leatherman said.   DECA districts are a fun event with a competitive edge, but in the end that is not what it is really about. “Districts are a great way to implement the skills learned in class. You also practice public speaking and speaking to professionals in a professional setting,” Leatherman said. So with goals in mind and briefcases at hand, DECA students will step forward on Feb. 14 to face off against other DECA students.  In the upcoming competition, the team will attempt to crush their opposition and make their school proud.

Straight to the Top

Some teachers dream of the day they get to be in charge, to be principal. Assistant Principal Jeff Meisenheimer will soon be living out that dream.   “I decided to interview for the principal position at North because that has been a career aspiration of mine to become a building principal,” Meisenheimer said.  The upcoming 2013-2014 school year, Meisenheimer will be the principal of Lee’s Summit North.  This opportunity has given him the chance to expand his career and it is also what he has wanted to do for a long time.  “Being under Dr. Faulkenberry’s guidance has allowed me to become principal,” Meisenheimer said.  There will be many different responsibilities for Meisenheimer as principal than as assistant principal. He will deal a lot less with discipline of students; however, he will get to do a lot more instructional things to improve the schooling or even just make it more interesting for everyone.  Meisenheimer will also get to be in classrooms more, which he will enjoy, although a downside is that there will be more paperwork and meetings. With Meisenheimer’s move to North, his co-workers remember their time together and the legacy he left. “He is a very compassionate person with the kids” secretary Judy

Sprouse said. “He tries to develop relationships with the students.”  “It has been a great working experience with Meisenheimer” assistant principle Jamie Argotsinger.   When he first came to this school Lee’s Summit West had just opened, there were five assistant principals soon to be cut down to three. It was a struggle for the assistant principals and the school had wanted to hire someone who had experience. When the school hired Meisenheimer, he had experience at Ruskin High, and the Hickman Mills district. Once he began the job, he hit the ground running and did an impressive job. Meisenhiemer has been in school getting his doctors degree, and is so close to being finished.   For North, it will be hard to adjust to a new principal, but that is simply a type of ‘growing pain’ the school will have to endure. For students here, on the other hand, many will miss Meisenheimer’s presence. And for Meisenheimer, the change is good, but still bittersweet.  “This is a wonderful opportunity but it will be hard to leave a place where you fit,” Meisenheimer said.  Bidding Meisenheimer farewell will be hard to do but he is excited about the new job and about working with all the students and staff there.

Mr. Meisenheimer’s legacy at LSHS comes to a close after the 2012-2013 school year.

Give Blood, Give BackThinking about giving blood? Learn the truth behind this NHS-

sponsored event, squashing any rumors that you may have heard.

Long needles, intense pain and fainting is all that some people think of when hearing the phrase

donating blood. Giving blood is often seen as an experience that isn’t worth all of the pain and suffering that one may think is involved. This, however, is not the case. In fact, giving blood can be quick and painless if one knows how to prepare properly and is also something that is very helpful to the community.   On Friday, Feb. 22, National Honor Society will be sponsoring the yearly blood drive with Community Blood Center where students can donate blood during the day in the A Gym. Many people donate blood through the school’s blood drive each year, however, some students are worried about donating blood because of personal fears or rumors started about how scary giving blood is. Despite these fears, giving blood really isn’t such a scary thing.   After checking in, you will be given a bottle of water to make sure you are hydrated before giving blood, and once you go through a little check-up to make sure you are able to give blood, it will be time to donate, and the entire process should be over within minutes.   After a quick pinch from the

needle, the process of donating blood is not painful. It’s only takes about ten minutes at the most to finish giving blood, and the entire time, the nurses are watching over everyone and making sure they are doing alright. After donating, you may be a bit dizzy, but it should quickly pass. After giving blood, you are allowed to head over to the Revitalization Center where you can eat and drink until you feel ready to move around again. Not only do you get to eat, but after donating, you will get a free t-shirt from the Community Blood Center for either giving blood or even attempting to give blood. There is always someone there to help you out, and it is the job of the people running the blood drive to make sure there are no problems throughout the entire process of donating.   One thing that many people get worried about is hearing stories of people fainting after giving blood. This sometimes happens, but it can be avoided by making sure you eat well throughout the day and aren’t donating on an empty stomach. Also,

making sure you drink a lot of fluids is important to prepare for giving blood because you lose about two cups of fluid when giving blood.  Since the school’s blood drive is with the Community Blood Center,

the blood that is donated is used to help patients who need blood that live in the Kansas City area. “Giving blood, and helping to provide service to the community is a good thing to do,” said Kelli

Wilson, who is in charge of the NHS Blood Drive.   Donating blood could save a life, and is a great thing to do to give to the community. To sign up to give blood, you must be 16 years or older and over 110 lbs to be able to donate. The blood drive will be happening throughout the day of Feb. 22, and sign ups to donate will be available in the cafeteria the entire week before. You can also go see Wilson in room A228 or go to savealifenow.org and enter the school sponsor code, leessummiths.

Colorful Classrooms

Various Valentines

The white walls start to cave in on the young boy, he is going crazy, losing his mind. Sanity is close to gone. Okay, maybe this example is a slight exaggeration, however the white walls of Lee’s Summit High School have got to go. Everyday I walk through the walls and see white. It’s enough to make one lose their mind. The white walls might not be so unbearable if they had a yellow trim or something. During the winter when there is snow on the ground outside is when the walls really get to one. Students come in from the cold and are greeted with the same frigid color that they are trying to escape from. Although it may seem that the walls should be a different color there are a few reasons why the walls are whiter than Caspar himself.   “Like most businesses we prefer to keep our walls a neutral color to insure that a multitude of  colors can  match with our walls.” principal John Faulkenberry said. The walls certainly do match with the excessive amount of posters hanging about the school. The posters that seem to be there to help students become more motivated and to offer helpful items to help students remember important items that have been taught. So, what will it take to change the colors of the common classroom?  “In order to change the color of the classrooms I would need to make a proposal to the Facility Department, then we would need to look over funding, come up with a color, then we would need to find somebody to paint the area or school. Keep in mind that it would be costly considering Lee’s Summit has over 200 classrooms.”   Luckily for Dr. Faulkenberry he has somebody who would love to paint the walls at LSHS. In fact, he has over twenty people who would like to paint the walls.   “If we were given the go ahead and funding I’m sure National Art Honor Society would love to add a little color to their school, I would at least.”Art teacher Angela. Hays said.

An inside look at an old problem. White walls.

Be mine? ...No.

“I think that valentines day means buying lots of candy and flowers and that boys should go out and spend money on girls they like and couples who are married have a special day for themselves. I know its sounds silly but I always look forward to Valentines Day.” - junior Sydney Cusimano

“Our family has a tradition on Valentines Day that every year we go to Japanese steak house, and my kids bring their boyfriends. We get dressed up and make reservations, and have been doing it for ten years. Its easy to forget about the people you love on this busy world. Makes me stop to appreciate people I love.”- history teacher Duane Fleck

“I want box of chocolates, a teddy bear, and flowers. I’d give my Valentine a ninja star that says ‘I’m a killer for your love.’”- sophomore Brooke Vandevelde

“Something extra special but simple. Something like a rose and a note. Valentines need to share deep feelings to make you happy. The best surprise is not knowing what will happen next and getting to be together. Or even just simply saying I love you for the first time.”- freshman Victoria Morrow

What Are They Wearing? The Hi-Life takes a look at four students’ different styles.

“”

I’d like to describe my style as cute without spending too much money.

Junior Veronica Gallardo is always on the popular site Wanelo.   “Wanelo is a website kind of like Pinterest, only better. You can actually buy the stuff because they direct you to the site after you click on the item you like.” Gallardo can usually be seen wearing something she found on the site.   “I really like Wanelo. I get a lot of inspiration from there. My boots are even ordered off Wanelo.”  Gallardo also is a big fan of neutral colors.   “I wear a lot of neutral colors because they go with pretty much anything.” Whether she’s online shopping or not, Veronica Gallardo knows her style.

“”

I really like the website Wanelo. I get a lot of inspiration from there.

The Civil Rights Movement---1955- late 1960’s After the abolition of slavery, Jim Crow laws, a specific set of rules for African American’s to follow to avoid contact with the hostile white community. Although intentions may have been good, these laws degenerated to discrimination.  In 1941 the addition of Executive Order 8802 enacted by President Roosevelt made it illegal to discriminate based upon race. Even with the addition of this order, it made little difference in the lives of the African American community and civil unrest and unhappiness continued to spill into the suburbs of America. More than a decade later, the tension felt across the country finally broke after a series of critical events that lead to the call for change.  After being sparked by the desegregation of schools, the murder of Emmett Till, and the Montgomery

Bus Boycott, the Civil Rights Movement quickly took strength in America. In addition to these radical turning points, sit-ins, freedom rides, and various campaigns were used to deliver the message. The most effective form of communication can be found in Civil Rights Leader Martin Luther King Jr.’s public speeches. African Americans and Liberal Whites supported King throughout the movement as he delivered many successful speeches to crowds of 100’s to crowds of 100,000’s. Some of these included his forever known “I Have a Dream” speech delivered at the Lincoln Memorial and equally impacting “How Long, Not Long” speech delivered on the steps of the Alabama State Capitol Building. During the movement, radical racist groups such as the Klu Klux Klan, KKK, furiously fought against the possibilities of the African American community gaining civil liberties. In addition to bludgeoning, many KKK groups

burned crosses in yards in addition to killing innocent African Americans through acts of lynching, beating, and burning. Although they had to endure such a harsh reality, the African American community throughout the country never gave up their hope and continued to persist. Their faith was rewarded in 1964 when Congress passed the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. This law made it illegal for discrimination by gender, race, and ethnicity when hiring, firing, and promoting.   After thousands of marches and boycotts in America, their determination was rewarded and the African American community was granted many civil liberties. MTV’s Catfish

Relying on the most used social networks to find love might not be the bet idea. Nev Shulman, the creator of MTV’s Catfish, would agree after his horrible experience of finding love.  While browsing on Facebook, Nev came across an astonishing 8-year-old artist from Michigan named Abby. She would paint the photos that Nev took and would send them to him in the mail. Nev’s brother Ariel and his friend Henry were so fascinated with this child, that they began to film the relationship between Nev and Abby, hoping to make a movie about it, but did not realize they would be in for a huge catch.  Aside from Nev’s friendship with Abby, he began to be acquainted with her mother Angela, and her half-sister Megan, whom he instantly clicked with. They ended up becoming very close to each other, to the point that they would share secrets, When certain things about Megan seemed to not add up, Nev and his friends headed out on a trip to Michigan to find out the truth. They did not know what kind of surprise they would be in for.  When they arrived to the farm, they noticed that Nev’s postcards he send to Megan were still in the mailbox, and their farm contained no horse, which Megan had always talked about. After this finding, they decided to drive into the city to Angela’s house to visit Abby. They drove past the gallery that Abby’s paintings were supposed to be hanging but the gallery was completely empty, and they became even more suspicious.  Showing up to Angela’s door with flowers, a bigger woman, who did not resemble the paintings that Abby had sent him, answered the door. Introducing herself as Angela, Nev was even more confused and did not know

what to believe at this point. Angela introduced Nev to her two sons and husband, which Megan had never mentioned, and then when he came across Abby, he asked her about her paintings, and she had no idea what he was talking about.   After awhile of being at the house, Angela realized she had a lot of explaining to do. While Nev sat, and allowed Angela to sketch a portrait of him, she admitted to running Abby’s Facebook because she was getting criticism on her art work, so she believed she would get more attention if they believed a child had painted them. When it came to Megan, the explanation was even more sinister.   Everyone was surprised to find out that in the end, nobody was really hurt by the actions made by this fake profile. Nev turned out to become a famous filmmaker, Angela ended up getting some help with her problems, although she admits to still getting on to her fake profile accounts, just not as regularly.  After Nev’s movie came out, his inbox was filled with a ton of emails from people who shared similar stories to his with Angela. He wanted to be able to help these people, so that is why he started the series, Catfish. Nev’s show goes in depth into these people’s relationships, and him and his friends do research to find out about the person whom they fell in love with.  They give those who they are helping, a general idea based off of their research and finding on what to expect when that front door opens.   This series is based off all real online relationships, and gives you the pros and cons of catfishing online. If you want to find out more about catfishing, you can catch the show on MTV on Monday nights at 8/7c.

Is This For Reel

Today is Valentine’s day, and many teenagers are looking for a new way to meet others for romantic relationships. The latest trend to exploit this desire is catfishing, lying about who you are online to get dates.   The term catfish was created by the 2010 movie by the same name.  This documentary followed the story of Nev Schulman, who finds a girl named Megan online. The film tells the story of how he learned that Megan was not who she appeared to be, and had lied about her appearance among other things. It is revealed that the person pretending to be Megan online was actually her mom, Angela, acting out life as though she had made different choices. Megan was in rehab during the course of the relationship.  The term came to refer to lying about oneself on the internet to pursue romantic relationships. In a more general sense, the term can also mean lying about who you are on online social networking sites.   Catfishing can involve using other’s pictures and information. People will lie about their job, their location, and even their name. These lies allow them to convince others to join a committed online relationship. These tactics can allow a relationship to last for years before the truth is discovered. The term has come to popularity lately because of the new MTV show Catfish. This show is based off of the documentary, in that it deals with online relationships, and the lack of

honesty in these relationships. The show is hosted by Nev Schulman, the main figure in the documentary on which the show is based. In the show, people learn the truth about people with whom they have been having online relationships.   An example of a catfish story in real life is the recent Manti Te’o controversy. Manti Te’o is a college linebacker, playing for Notre Dame. He became a Heisman trophy candidate during his 2012 season. One of the most interesting aspects of this story was that he had recently lost both his grandmother and his girlfriend. It came out that his girlfriend did not exist, however, and he had only known her through an online relationship, which turned out to be a hoax. This story represents a catfish story in that it involved a hoax about someone lying about their identity in an online relationship. These stories are common and examples are shown in the new television program.   Catfishing is the greatest problem associated with online dating, and its importance can be seen in the existence of a television show like Catfish. This idea is an important one, and people need to be more careful about whom they meet online. an online relationship doesn’t have many Facebook friends, refuse to meet in person, never talks on the phone, doesn’t have many photos online, or the photos seem overly professional.

1. The easiest way to avoid getting into a catfish situation is not to meet people online. This will prevent anyone from meeting someone who is potenitally lying about themselves.

2. If you do get in an online relationship, stay safe by not meeting with anyone until you are absolutely sure they are who they say that they are, or meet them in a public place.

3. Stay honest about who you are, so that people know that you can be trusted.

4. You should be suspicious when someone with whom you have an online relationship doesn’t have many Facebook friends, refuse to meet in person or video chat, wnever talks on the phone, doesn’t have many photos online, or the photos seem overly professional.

5. Stick to legitimate dating sites, rather than using Facebook, or other such social media sites.

Its what’s on the inside that counts, which in this case includes a festering intestinal system and a stomach full of human flesh. Death choices will be reconsidered and entire worldviews changed in Warm Bodies, the romance between a zombie with a huge lifeless heart and a survivor of the apocalypse.  It seems that zombie-apocalypse romances are becoming increasingly popular in movies; Warm Bodies is a perfect example of this. In the movie the main protagonist, a zombie who can’t remember his name but thinks it started with an R (Nicholas Hoult), is a zombie who wants more from his death then eating anything with a heartbeat and stumbling around. He does have one friend, if occasionally making eye contact and making a few strained grunts and moans a friendship.   It would seem that he finally does get his wish when he and his pack of zombies comes across a group of survivors retrieving medical supplies for their encampment. They then proceed to shoot at R and his group. After killing her boyfriend, however, R meets Julie (Teresa Palmer) and not too long after, being the macho man he is, he manages to take this girl to the airport he calls home.

The movie for the most part was bad, the comedy was forced and many of the jokes weren’t very funny or clever. The story was sappy and rather boring it lacked some backbone so to speak. Neither of the characters was very complicated and it was over all too predictable; a friendly monster who doesn’t want to eat someone, and a girl who is untrusting at first and doesn’t have her father’s approval.  The movie wasn’t very good until it reached it’s climax in which humans and zombies fought to kill off ‘Bonies’ who, despite their horrible name, are a sort of zombie that has lost most of their flesh and are far more vicious than the ordinary zombie. Then it went back to its original, terrible state during the end, everything turned out fine and everyone’s happy.  Overall the movie was just disappointing, and while it deserves points for some originality the movie was unable to fulfill it’s potential as a comedy with zombies.

Parker (Jason Statham), a thief that comes with is own code of ethics is left for dead by his partners after having refused to help with another heist. Now alive and well, the anti-hero goes after them for his money and his revenge.  The movie Parker is about a man who could be considered a saint among thieves, who’s strict code of ethics states that nobody gets hurt if they don’t need to and nobody is robbed if they cannot afford being robbed.   In the beginning of the movie, everyone’s favorite anti-hero is disguised as a priest at the Ohio state fair during a heist while his cohorts, disguised as clowns, rob the place. Parker keeps everyone calm and orderly. Afterwards, when he demands his cut of the profits, the boss denies it and claims that he will be paid after he helps them with a diamond heist. Parker, however, refuses this, resulting in him being shot and left for dead.   Unfortunately for his old partners, he makes a recovery and goes after them seeking his money and his revenge. On the way he meets Leslie (Jennifer Lopez) who

immediately sees through his ridiculous disguise and promises to keep his secret for a cut of the pay.  The movie had potential, but lacked some crucial elements that would have made for a good movie. One of these elements is that the acting with the exception of Statham’s was all around lazy; it didn’t feel as if the actors were committed to their characters.   This action thriller was also a bit “cheesy” so to speak. The diamond heist theme was so unoriginal and not at all creative and the sidekick played by Jennifer Lopez was as silly and unnecessary as several of Parkers ridiculous disguises. On the contrary Parker’s methods of execution were rather creative however not very elegant nor appealing. Overall the movie was simply boring and something to laugh at. It does not deserve to be placed among action thrillers. by Jude Spaulding photos courtesy of AP Images

Sitting in a dark room, the smell of popcorn in the air, the suspense pushing people into their seats, wondering what will come next, this… is Mama. The twist and turn of emotions keep the movie interesting as the story plays out. It starts out explaining the complicated back story behind a troubled family.  There are two little girls, Victoria (Megan Charpentier) and Lily (Isabelle Nelisse). At a very young age they are abandoned. Victoria being three years old and Lily only one. After a wreck in the forest in the middle of winter, they are left wandering around until they come across a house. There are millions of houses in this world, yet they happened to come to this one.   Over the next five years the girls are believed to be dead, yet their uncle Lucas (Nikolaj Coster Waldau) never stopped looking for them. When the girls are found it is

astounding at how they survived, being so young when they were left. Some believed the girls were mentally ill, and it was easy to just write it off as having a disorder, however that was not the case.  Months after being found they are allowed to leave to live with their uncle Lucas and his girlfriend Annabel (Jessica Chastain). Many strange things occur as they settle into the house. At first it was easy to ignore, but throughout the movie the phenomenon’s occur.This movie definitely deserves a four out of five stars. Go watch and see the rest. It is most definitely not a waste of money. It causes goose bumps and many jumps and gasps.

Cropping pictures and adding filters is something most people do to pictures. With technology getting more and more advanced everyday the options of filters and frames are becoming more extensive.  Some photography applications are only available on the iTunes app store and the Android Playstore. One app that is popular in both is Instagram. Instagram is not only a photo editing site but photos can also be posted for anyone to see. Some popular apps on the iTunes app store include InstaCollage and PixIronmatic. InstaCollage which is used to put multiple photos together to create one. There are many collage frames that come with the download and then more frame packages can be bought separately.   A photo editing app that is popular is called PixIronmatic. In this app a photo can be uploaded on snapped to edit. When you finish editing a picture a size

can be chosen, as where the image can be saved to. All these apps are commonly used and liked by most iPhone users and photographers. The popular apps on the Android market are Picsart – Photo Studio and Photo Grid – Collage Maker. Picsart – Photo Studio is the number one photo editing app in the Google Playstore. This app takes all the qualities of a computer photo editor and makes them mobile and at the palm of one’s hand. Photo Grid – Collage Maker allows for putting together multiple photos to create one. Filters on individual photos can be added making them unique and add text. No More Cuts For SportsA new federal law has been passed that says that high school teams can no longer cut any players, which comes into effect next year.

When people hear the name Kevin Holman they automatically think of a cool and lenient adult, but he’s much more than that.

The most frequently asked question about Holman regards his specific job as the campus supervisor.   “I keep the students away and scare off the bad guys, BOO!” Kevin Holman said.   When seeing Kevin walk around the campus, he gives off the impression of a strict authority figure searching to punish a kid, but that opinion is well changed after someone gets to know him. Guessing things about a person is always tricky, especially when that person is an adult. “I can say the alphabet backwards, faster than some people can say it forwards.” Holman said.   Of course he offered to show off his skills, it was quite impressive.   Since Holman seems like such a friendly person inside of school, it would be neat to figure out what he does in his spare time.

“I’m usually busy helping someone else, I like helping people and I like to snow mobile. We do that at Christmas though. I like to play softball and I enjoy mission trips,” Holman said.   It seems like Holman is having a blast even if he is not working.

Why did Holman choose LSHS out of all schools?   “Coach Miller’s wife told me about the job and I just knew it’d be something I’d enjoy. I’ve been working with young people since 1977. I love my job, I like talking to students,” Holman said.   Not only is Holman a fun man who possesses a vibrant personality but he also contains many special talents. Such as, the ability to play softball and he was a children’s minister. He helps protect students not only because it is his job, but because he cares.

Kevin Holman is an energetic ambitious staff member and a caring guy, but best of all he respects his job and enjoys the company of students.

Banish A Bad Day

Think positively.

These quick pick-me-ups will help anyone through a rough day.

Everyone has those days that seem like the end of the world.

Days where everything that could possibly go wrong is going wrong. Remember, though, someone has been there before. Those people have left behind words of wisdom to cheer up anyone having a not so great day.

Someone always has it worse, so count your blessings.

When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.

Everything will be okay. Someday.

When all else fails, look to your best friend for support.

HilariousDisasters

Clumsiness, irony, and humiliation are symptoms almost every teen goes

through. These stories prove that a laugh is the best way to overcome awkwardness. Sophomore Bella LoCascio has endured both embarrassment and terror in one unfortunate event. She and her friend went to McDonald’s after school. In the drive-thru, the keys weren’t in the ignition. “As we sat deciding what to order, the radio started blaring music. We screamed from the surprise, but the car wasn’t even on so it was scary, too. After fixing it and calming down, we pulled up to the pay window. The guy taking out money was laughing at us…

he had heard the whole thing,” LoCascio said.  Embarrassment isn’t the only form of an awkward situation; irony is a big part of other uncomfortable circumstances. Sophomore Sara Kostelnick experienced an ironic situation. She was on vacation in Utah with her family. “My dad had my brother’s special KC Royal’s hat and when he tried to toss it back to him, it went right off the edge of a cliff.  Their faces were priceless. I laughed so hard,” Kostelnick said.  Everyday life can be difficult; mistakes are made often. Laughing through it all can make an uncomfortable situation easier.
