AerCap delivers new A350XWB to LATAM

AerCap Holdings N.V. has announced the deliv-ery of a new Airbus A350-900 to LATAM Airlines Group. The aircraft was transferred to LATAM Air-lines at the Airbus Delivery Centre in Toulouse. AerCap has one of the largest Airbus A350XWB portfolios with a total of seven owned and an-other 22 on-order aircraft. AerCap President and Chief Commercial Officer, Philip Scruggs, said: “LATAM Airlines is a longstanding customer and we are delighted to support its fleet renewal program by delivering the first of nine Airbus A350-900 aircraft.”

Lufthansa Technik and Lufthansa Cargo test loading of Trent XWB

Another important milestone in its preparations for the entry into service of the Airbus A350 in Lufthansa German Airline’s fleet has been reached. In a test carried out in Frankfurt under real-life conditions, a Trent XWB aircraft engine provided by Rolls-Royce was loaded into a Boe-ing 777F. This successful loading trial now means that the seamless logistics of providing spare engines via air freight are assured. When pre-pared for loading, the engine and its transport stand weigh eighteen tons. The engine weighs seven tons (dry weight) and is five meters long; the fan is three meters in diameter. As a result,

the engine could only be transported via special flight with an Antonov An-124, an Airbus Beluga or a Boeing C-17. As an alternative, Rolls-Royce developed a completely new type of transport stand upon which the engine can be placed and divided into two large modules. On this split engine stand, the large-volume fan can be sepa-rated from the rest of the engine within a single day. The individual modules are then optimally prepared for transport together with the other tools required for engine replacement, and can be loaded. The unit that results from this ap-proach can also be transported in freighters from the Boeing 747 and 777 aircraft families.

BOC Aviation and Air China enter into purchase-and-leaseback arrangement for five new aircraft

BOC Aviation has entered into a purchase-and-leaseback arrangement with Air China for five brand-new aircraft, comprising three Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and two Airbus A330-300 air-craft, all scheduled for delivery from the manu-facturer in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Airbus delivers first A320neo to Mexico’s Viva Aerobus

Low-cost carrier Viva Aerobus has taken delivery of its first A320neo, becoming the latest opera-tor of Airbus ultra-efficient single-aisle aircraft in Latin America. Viva Aerobus became an Airbus

customer in 2013 when it placed the biggest order for Airbus in Mexican history; 52 A320 Family aircraft, including 40 A320neos. Today, Viva Aerobus operates 20 A320 aircraft and has nearly completed its transition to become an all-Airbus operator by year end. The Viva Aerobus A320neo is powered by Pratt & Whitney Pure Power PW1100-JM engines. The aircraft is con-figured with Airbus’ innovative Space-Flex cabin, seating up to 186 passengers in wider 18” seats, for unmatched passenger comfort.

Embraer flies first Legacy 450 assembled in Melbourne

Embraer has announced the maiden flight of its first Legacy 450 mid-light business jet assem-bled in Melbourne. The Legacy 450 performed as expected and all flight test procedures were successfully completed. The Legacy 450 is the third business jet model to be assembled at the company’s recently expanded Melbourne facil-ity, where the midsize Legacy 500 will also be as-sembled, beginning in 2017. The Legacy 450 has also been assembled in São José dos Campos, Brazil, since August 2015, where the Legacy 500 began assembly one year earlier. Embraer be-gan its Melbourne aircraft assembly operations in early 2011 with the entry-level Phenom 100, followed by the Phenom 300 in August 2012. In just over five years, the company has delivered close to 200 Phenom jets from its Melbourne facility to customers across the U.S. and in 12 other countries.

competing Heathrow airport could build a new runway without breaking European pol-lution laws. The study measured poisonous nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels using 40 sen-sors in and around the airport.

The study, which was led by the University of Cambridge in the UK, said the general

pollution level will drop below “the critical level” because increased pollution from the runway will be counteracted by reduced pol-lution from the wider area.

Pollution around the west London airport - the busiest in Europe - has been a majorsticking point in its bid for a third runway,

with campaigners arguing air pollution lev-els at points around the airport already ex-ceed international rules.

A member of the tried-and-tested Super Puma family, the H215 is a twin-engine, heavy rotorcraft equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, which complies with the most stringent safety standards. Its onboard equip-ment includes multi-function digital screens and an advanced 4-axis autopilot which provides flight envelope protection, unrivalled precision, and sta-bility in even the harshest operating conditions. The aircraft carried out final test flights at the Albacete plant on September 22, where it was painted and fitted with specific mission systems enhancing its Search and Rescue (SAR) and Person-nel Recovery/CSAR missions. The Air Force’s H215 boasts additional fuel tanks that extend its range up to 560 Km, an emergency buoyancy system, a high-frequency radio, a hoist, and a cockpit com-patible with night vision goggles, among other equipment. The Spanish Air Force operates several helicop-ters belonging to the Super Puma family, in both civil and military versions. The aircraft operate in 3 SAR Squadrons as well as in the 402 Air Force Squadron, which is responsible for the transport of senior government officials. The new H215 will be assigned to the Air Force’s 802 Squadron/RCC Canarias and will arrive at its base in Gando (Gran Canaria) before the end of the year. The new heli-copter will enter into service straightaway, follow-ing a short training program for crews, who already have extensive experience of flying other versions of the Super Puma.

AerData, a Boeing Company, the provider of lease management, records management and engine fleet planning software, reported a new arrangement between AMOS of Swiss AviationSoftware and AerData’s STREAM so-lution, providing customers with a fully-inte-grated software platform for a more efficient and complete aircraft electronic records man-agement system. STREAM (Secure Technical Records for Electronic Asset Management) is the industry’s foremost web-based solution used by some of the world’s largest airlines, lessors and MROs to manage aircraft and en-gine records. In moving to a paperless future, the capabilities of the combined AMOS and STREAM offering will allow airlines and MRO providers to manage records fully electroni-cally. The integration includes the ability to recognize AMOS Workpackages, Workorders & Task Cards. STREAM can display single Wor-korders or each Workpackage with associated Workorders and Task Cards contained within. Utilizing a placeholder in STREAM will facili-tate auto-archiving, including the ability to identify missing records. The integration also includes the ability to transfer electronically signed work orders, including e-signed PDFs. This can be triggered by configurable events such as work order closure. The files are e-signed within AMOS, but directly stored in STREAM. All joint customers can benefit from this integration with the added benefits of a

straightforward setup requiring minimal mi-gration effort.

UK-based Monarch Airlines has recently been facing financial problems which threatened continuation of its ATOL (Air Travel Opera-tor’s License) agreement. That license grants passengers financial protection so that if an airline goes into liquidation while they are abroad they are not left stranded. The airline has now announced that it has secured its ATOL status after it “successfully concluded discussions with the Civil Aviation Author-ity. Currently the airline, which specializes in package holidays, has been seeking funding from a number of external sources to avoid the full financial burden falling on its major shareholder, Greybull Capital. That company is owned by the two Meyohas brothers and holds a 90% share in the airline, with the Pension Protection Fund owning the remain-ing 10%. It has also been announced that The Monarch Group has “received significant further investment from shareholders and is close to announcing the largest investment in its 48-year history. Andrew Swaffield, Chief Executive Officer of The Monarch Group, commented: “I am delighted that we have been able to come to an agreement with the CAA on the extension of Monarch’s ATOL li-cense and am excited about the additional capital coming into the group which will help us fund our future growth. I am immensely proud of the professionalism of the Monarch team.” The airline has said that it is trading well, but puts the current crisis down to three factors: the recent spate of terrorist attacks, the Brexit vote, and the fall in value of the pound sterling.
