Benefits of Far Infrared SaunasWeight Loss: Can burn 400-800 calories in just one 30 minute session!

Here’s how many calories a 150 pound person normally burns up in 30 minutes!

ACTIVITY Marathon Running Vigorous Racquet Ball Rowing (peak effort) Swimming (crawl stroke) Jogging Tennis (fast game) Chopping Wood Cycling (10 mph) Golfing (without a cart) Walking (3.5 mph) Bowling

Some weight loss authorities believe that our bodies use fat to dilute toxins. Since a Good Health Sauna is an unsurpassed expeller of toxins, it is also a great way to get rid of any fat our bodies are using to dilute toxins we are storing.

Beauty: Excellent for increasing blood circulation to the skin which is essential for beautiful, youthful, glowing skin! A new “inner glow” as the skin is free of accumulated dirt and dry skin cells, due to deep cleansing of impurities!

• Help acne, eczema, psoriasis, burns and any skin lesions or cuts. • Open wounds heal quicker with reduced scarring. • Removes roughness, leaving skin baby smooth and soft again. • Firms and improves skin tone and elasticity.

Biological Toxins: Infection plays a role in more conditions than previously thought, from artery disease and ulcers to arthritis and colitis. Many bacteria and fungi produce endo and exotoxins that cause both local and systemic disease. More and more of them are resistant to drug therapy. Bodies weakened by toxic chemicals and heavy metals are more subject to attack by infections. Many infections are chronic, causing nagging complaints that never go away. This occurs especially in parts of the body with poor circulation such as the joints, ears and sinuses. Heating the body is a natural mechanism the body uses to fight infections. Sauna therapy not only heats, but powerfully improves circulation to help fight both acute and chronic infections.

Toxic metals: According to the United States EPA, toxic metals are the second worst environmental problem. Pesticides may contain lead, copper, arsenic and other metals. Fifty million mercury amalgam fillings are still placed in America each year. Tons of it is dumped into the air from coal-burning power plants and paper-making. Aluminum compounds are routinely added to table salt and municipal drinking water supplies. Arsenic and lead used in pesticides and insecticides find their way into the water and food supplies. Everyone has excess toxic metals, whether or not they show up on any test. Some toxic metals replace vital minerals in enzyme binding sites. However, they do not function as well. When they accumulate, they contribute to hundreds of physical and emotional health conditions.

Cellulite: Cellulite is a gel-like substance made up of fat, water, and wastes which are trapped in pockets below the skin. A Good Health Sauna can assist with correction of this condition, as profuse sweating helps clear this form of unwanted debris from the body. European Beauty Specialists confirm: a sauna will greatly speed any anti-cellulite program! Due to at least twice the depth of heat penetration into cellulite combined with up to 10 times the level of heating in these tissues a Good Health Sauna can be significantly more effective than any conventional sauna.

Runners: The Good Health Sauna is the perfect solution for keeping up your cardiovascular fitness while avoiding a run on a difficult weather day (days you may want to just skip a workout or when you need a rest to allow an injury to heal). Also, the Good Health Saunas are great for warming up before stretching or starting any vigorous activity. You simply get in the sauna with your clothes on and allow the infrared rays to pour right through your clothing until you just begin to break a sweat. Now you are pre-warmed for stretching, skiing, running in cold conditions, etc. For the stretching benefit from the system you will need a 40 minute sauna session before your stretching. Research indicates that stretching after a 40 minute sauna session should produce a .5 % permanent increase in your flexibility. Even one 20 minute session may create temporary increase in your flexibility of up to 10%. As a warm-up, a Good Health Sauna should help to prevent injuries and enhance your ability to stay with your training program or enjoy any outdoor activity. A Good Health Sauna is also a great cold weather, post-activity, warm-up, especially for any frostbitten areas.

Relaxation & Enjoyment: Stress can affect the body’s motor, neurologic & circulatory systems. Perhaps the most immediate relief a Good Health Sauna can offer is simple stress relief. Just a few minutes in the warmth promotes relaxation, soothing nerves & knotted muscles, helping you to feel rejuvenated and restored in both body and mind.

COLDS AND FLUFevers, Colds, Influenza, and many other common diseases often induce a fever, which is our body‘s natural way of burning off toxins and bacteria associated with the illness. When using a Far Infrared Sauna, skin temperature rises to 40°C (104°F) and internal body temperature rises to about 38°C (100.4°F), thus creating an artificial fever state, a process known as hyperthermia. Fever is part of the body‘s natural healing process. Fever stimulates and boosts the immune system, resulting in increased production of disease fighting white blood cells, antibodies and interferon (an anti-viral protein with cancer fighting capability). Recent studies also show that symptoms of colds and flu-like illnesses are dramatically reduced if Far Infrared Sauna Therapy is used in its early stages.

ARTHRITIS PAIN RELIEFMany people use far infrared heat as a successful treatment for arthritic pain relief, rheumatism and muscle pain (myalgia). Far Infrared heat therapy can substantially reduce the pain and deformation caused by myalgia and certain kinds of rheumatism. Furthermore with each sauna session, the muscle length is increased. Regular use of an infrared sauna may result in a permanent increase of 12%, strengthening and toning muscles for over all better health. For athletes, far infrared sauna therapy can be used very effectively for warming up and cooling down during an exercise workout.

Effects of Infrared Heat on Rheumatoid ArthritisA case study reported in Sweden worked with a 70-year-old man who had rheumatoid arthritis secondary to acute rheumatic fever. He had reached his toxic limit of gold injections and his Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) was still 125. After using an infrared heat system for less than five months, his ESR was down to 11.The rheumatologist worked with a 14-year-old Swedish girl who had difficulty walking downstairs due to knee pain from the age of eight. This therapist told her mother the girl would be in a wheelchair within two years if she didn’t begin gold corticosteroid therapy. After three infrared sauna treatments, she began to become more agile and subsequently took up folk dancing without the aid of conventional approaches in her recovery.

BLOOD PRESSUREHigh Blood Pressure: due to an opening of blood vessels and capillaries, and the increased betterment of circulatory processes within the body, as well as the relaxed environment in a portable home sauna, one can successfully lower blood pressure.

Research into far infrared saunas has shown that patients who used the infrared sauna lowered their blood pressure, using the sauna three times a week at 30 minutes per session. Department of Cardiology, Respiratory and Metabolic Medicine in Kagoshima University took a group of 28 patients who had at least one coronary risk factor and split them into two groups. Fourteen were put into one group to be treated with a far infrared sauna and the other fourteen were put into the non sauna group. The patients in the sauna group used the infrared sauna once a day for 15 minutes, at 60 °C, followed by 30 minutes bed rest with a blanket, for two weeks. Systolic blood pressure levels in the sauna group were significantly lower than those in the non-sauna group at two weeks after admission (110 +/- 15 mmHg versus 122 +/- 13 mmHg). These results suggest that repeated sauna therapy may protect against oxidative stress, which leads to the prevention of atherosclerosis.Low Blood Pressure: when an individual’s blood pressure is too low, the use of a home sauna can help to balance the body’s interior workings and processes. Improvement in circulation and the opening of blood vessels will help to bring blood pressure to balanced and appropriate levels.

DIABETESDiabetes is a disease that impairs our body’s ability to balance the use of energy (glucose) derived from the foods we eat. Insulin, a natural hormone produced in our pancreas is required for the body to deliver glucose into our cells to bum as energy. If the pancreas doesn’t make insulin or if the body cannot use insulin properly then diabetes results. Common symptoms of diabetics are: frequent urination, excessive thirst and hunger, weakness and fatigue, and nausea and vomiting.

Far Infrared can increase micro circulation, relieving pain, reducing swelling, flushing toxins, and helping to rejuvenate healthy cellular functioning. Its emitting natural far infrared rays deep into your skin, muscles, tendons and ligaments. Actually increasing circulation within the cells. Giving your cells a chance to flush toxins and waste by products while absorbing fresh oxygen and nutrients from the blood stream.

New research has also discovered that far infrared rays inhibit bacterial growth, helping to prevent and reduce the chance of infection.

7

ECZEMA AND PSORIASISFar Infrared Sauna Therapy greatly alleviates symptoms of both eczema and psoriasis. The deep penetration of far infrared heat increases blood circulation allowing more oxygen and nutrients to be transported to your body‘s cells regenerating and cleansing your skin. Your pores are thoroughly cleansed while you sweat during your sauna session and all kinds of toxins leave your body via transpiration. Regular use of a Far Infrared Sauna helps to clean toxins inside your body and control skin inflammation while eliminating the itching associated with eczema and psoriasis and repairing the skin. Far Infrared Sauna Therapy is also a great reliever of stress – a known trigger for both eczema and psoriasis. Say goodbye the risks and side effects associated with emollient creams, lubricating ointments, and steroid creams traditionally used to treat eczema and psoriasis. These medical ointments often cause thinning of the skin, acne like breakouts, broken blood vessels and stretch marks, but with Far Infrared technology they are no longer necessary.

FIBROMYALGIA Fibromyalgia has been called the “aching-all-over disease,” but that description falls short of conveying the true chronic pain of the debilitating illness. Often chronic muscle disorder in which the thin film or tissue holding muscle together becomes thickened or tightened, fibromyalgia is characterized by widespread musculoskeletal aches, pains and stiffness, soft tissue tenderness, mild to incapacitating fatigue, and disturbed sleep. The pain of fibromyalgia is typically felt in the neck, back, shoulders and hands, but it is not exclusive to those areas. Based on criteria set in 1990 by the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), a diagnosis of fibromyalgia requires a patient to have experienced widespread pain for a minimum of three months in 11 of 18 tender muscle sites. Among those 18 sites are the hips, knees and rib cage. Other symptoms of fibromyalgia include allergies, anxiety, carpal tunnel syndrome, depression, dizziness, headaches, irritable bowel symptoms, numbness, and tender skin. The ACR estimates that fibromyalgia affects as many as 6 million Americans. Most sufferers of fibromyalgia are women of childbearing age, but it has also been known to strike men, children and the elderly. As for what causes fibromyalgia, many theories exist.

The far infrared sauna has been very beneficial in the treatment of fibromyalgia (FMS, FM) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFIDS, CFS). A number of doctors now believe that the “toxic load” of these patients are very high and their detoxification pathways are often compromised. When one is able to reduce the toxins and heavy metals in those with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, their symptoms often greatly improve. A number of people are also suffering unknowingly from mercury poisoning or from other heavy metals such as lead and aluminum. The infrared sauna has been invaluable in accelerating the removal of these toxic metals. By raising the core temperature and creating a ‘hyperthermia’ effect the infrared sauna also improves a number of parameters in the immune system.

The Health Benefits of Saunasby Dr. Julian Whitaker

Study of 9/11 Rescue WorkersOne of the most recent studies of this program is the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project. When the World Trade Center buildings collapsed on September 11, 2001, massive amounts of toxins were released, and the firemen, policemen, and other rescue and cleanup workers bore the brunt of this environmental disaster.

As you might expect, acute respiratory distress was common in this group. However, over the subsequent weeks and months, a significant number of these individuals experienced a wide range of health issues, including gastrointestinal complaints, worsening pulmonary problems, depression, irritability, and cognitive disorders.

From September 2002 through September 2005, more than 500 of these rescue workers, the majority of them firefighters between the ages of 35 and 45, completed this sauna detox program, and the results were astounding.

Before treatment, which averaged 33 days, they missed a median of 2.1 days of work per month and had 4.4 days of limited activity. Symptom severity scores—which rated 10 systems, including skin, respiratory, emotional, cognitive, and musculoskeletal—were high, and half of the participants were taking drugs to manage their symptoms.

After treatment, the number of days of missed work or limited activity fell to 0.2, symptom scores dropped dramatically, and 84 percent of participants had discontinued all their drugs because their symptoms had cleared up. They also had significant improvements in thyroid function, balance, reaction time, and even IQ!

Lyme DiseaseThe skin is the largest organ in the body. It covers more than 20 square feet in an average adult and accounts for as much as 15% of our total body weight, more than any single internal organ. The average square inch of skin contains about 20 blood vessels, 60,000 melanocytes (which produce pigment), more than a thousand nerve endings, and 650 sweat glands. The skin has multiple functions, not the least of which is simply to hold your body together and prevent entrance of foreign objects and pathogens into the bloodstream and tissues. Often referred to as our third lung, the skin acts as an interface between our internal and the external environments as it regulates exchange processes like absorption and elimination. Skin is a semi permeable barrier through which your body can not only absorb substances but can also release them.

The skin detoxification pathway Sweating is one of the primary functions of the skin. It accomplishes both temperature regulation (cooling) and toxin removal. Your sweat is made up many different components. These include water (up to 99%), and substances like salt and other electrolytes, sugar, metabolic wastes like ammonia and urea, metals and heavy metals, and drug metabolites. Because our sweat can be as revealing as urine, sweat analysis is becoming an ever more common clinical procedure for detecting a multitude of substances in the body.

Sweat in humans is produced by two types of glands. The eccrine sweat glands are present over the entire surface of our bodies and are especially concentrated on the palms of our hands, soles of the feet, and the forehead. They produce sweat composed mostly of water and salts. Apocrine sweat glands are predominant in the armpits and genital area. Apocrine sweat contains

protein and fatty materials and is the source of the sweat odor which is caused by bacterial breakdown of organic compounds.

When sweat glands are stimulated to increase production, they secrete a substance (sweat) which is synthesized from the fluid which fills the spaces between our body‘s cells (the interstitial spaces). This fluid comes from blood plasma leaked into the tissues by capillaries. Any circulating toxins present in the blood system are carried into the interstitial spaces along with the plasma. In this way toxins make their way into sweat, which is a filtrate of the plasma. Heat stress and exertional activities speed up the circulation of blood and thus accelerate the release of fluid into the interstitial spaces. This in turn prompts sweat glands to produce more toxin-laden sweat.

Most people living in modern times do not sweat very much. Lack of adequate exercise, the prevalence of climate control technology at home and in the workplace, and the non-physical nature of most jobs contribute to minimal sweating. Unfortunately, decreased sweating means decreased toxin removal.

Nenah Sylver, Ph.D., in her book The Holistic Handbook of Sauna Therapy, cites several published scientific studies which illustrate the ability of the body to detoxify via sweat production. For example, from her book we know that nickel, mercury, and cadmium are eliminated more effectively through sweat than through urine. Also, people with known chemical exposure who have symptoms of peripheral neuropathy and/or multiple sclerosis can obtain between 90 and 99% reduction of symptoms through the skin detoxification pathway.

Can Cure Mysterious CasesSherry A. Rogers reports in her book “Detoxify Or Die” that people with the most severe forms of heart disease and resistant to all medications, tolerated infrared saunas with no side effects. Most importantly, it improved their heart health in a Mayo Clinic study within 3 short weeks. Of course, it is recommended to continue longer, say a year or longer of daily or every other day saunas for an hour or less to more completely lower stored chemicals that cause disease. She also reports that mysterious joint pain in war veterans exposed to Agent Orange also disappeared, as did a host of other pain syndromes. Dr. David W. Schnare, Esq. Ph.D. of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) also showed that not only did a sauna reduce body levels of HCB (hexachlorobenzene) and PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) in electrical workers, for example, but it did this even though the men were continually exposed at work. This is the only method of detoxification evidenced in current nutritional, medical, and bio-chemical literature capable of significantly reducing or eliminating stored toxic residue with scientifically proven safety, according to Dr. Schnara, Science Advisor to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Appearance of the Infrared Sauna on OprahPeople everywhere are discovering the wonders of infrared sauna therapy. Interest piqued considerably after medical guru Dr. Oz appeared on Oprah’s show and coached Oprah on its use. Its demonstration occurred in one of Oprah’s segments on “High Tech Ways to Extend Your Life.”

While inside the unit, Oprah noticed an increase in the feeling of warmth about her. That’s because the infrared rays can penetrate into the skin and even deeper. They are the same rays that you get from the Sun, but without the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

The Infrared Sauna EffectsDuring the infrared sauna on Oprah segment it was explained well that an infrared sauna can increase your metabolism to the point where you will burn hundreds of calories without making any physical effort. People who utilize the sauna will experience a drop in their blood pressure, if that’s been a concern for them, and an overall increase in vascular circulation. The caloric burn, estimated to be as high as 600 calories in a thirty-minute session, comes from your increased heart rate. Experts believe that it will bring about a gradual increase in your core temperature as you use it. And as you perspire you will release toxins through the pores of the skin for an overall cleansing effect.

The infrared sauna technology differs from the more familiar saunas that heat the air with steam or rocks. This heat emanates from the light at the far end of the spectrum; it falls between visible rays and microwaves. For this reason it is often referred to as far infrared sauna therapy. Because it does not overheat the air but, rather, penetrates into skin and muscles, it has been put into use by NASA for its astronauts, and the neonatal units in hospitals keep babies warm with it.

What is Chromotherapy?Chromotherapy, also called color therapy, is the use of color and light to gently bring about homeo-stasis. Color and light is applied to specific areas and accupoints on the body.

History of Color and Light HealingColor and light have been used for healing since the beginning of recorded time. Ancient Egyptians built solarium-type rooms with colored panes of glass. The sun would shine through the glass and flood the patient with color. Some people use colored silk cloths which are placed on the body and then flooded with sunlight. Early color and light healers in the modern world used colored gels and sheets of glass to apply light to the body. Others used color infused water and color meditations to send healing rays to the person.

Today, there are many practitioners who use color and light in interesting ways. Some therapists have a box with a mechanism that flickers light into the eyes. They report success in speeding the recovery of stroke victims and those persons who experience chronic depression.

Some healers recommend the wearing of eyeglasses with colored lenses. Practitioners of Feng bring color into our homes and workplaces for optimum balance of energy.

Why it Works:The earth, the oceans, in fact every living thing, is dependent upon light for its very existence. A recent scientific study disclosed that each cell in the body emits light. We live in a sea of energy and our bodies are composed of energy.

Color works through and in us, in every nerve, cell, gland and muscle. It shines in our auras and radiates upon us from the sun. Color is an active power, exerting a tremendous influence on our consciousness, soul and spirit.

Within our body, our organs, muscles, cells and nerves all have a level of vibration. When our body becomes out of balance, disease occurs. Each color has its own frequency and vibration. Through extensive research, we know that color and light will help bring our physical and emotional systems into balance.

REDBrings warmth, energy and stimulation; therefore good for energy, fatigue, colds, chilly and passive people. It energizes heart and blood circulation. It energizes all organs and the senses.

TURQUOISEIncreases intuition and sensitivity. It mentally relax-es and tackles embodied psychological barriers. It acts as a tonifier and can help regulate imbalances in the lung and large intes-tines system. It facilitates spiritual growth.

YELLOWIncreases neuromuscular tone. Purifies blood, helps digestion and has a cleansing effect. Strongly stimulates happiness, brings on a sense of security, as well as a strong feeling of well-being.

BLUEIs a cool color that is calming. It stimulates the parasympathetic system, and reduces blood pressure and calms both breathing and heart-rate. It helps treat sleep disorders and headaches.

GREENIs a cooling, sedating color, which helps reduce swelling of joints and tissues; it calms the body’s nervous system. It’s the color of the relaxed heart.

VIOLETPromotes awareness and consciousness. It increases effects of medication. It promotes proper function-ing of the lymphatic system and very helpful with menopause. It is the color for neutralizing emotional wounds and for spiritual growth.

How to Prevent Cold and Flu Naturallyby CHRIS KRESSER

Since cold and flu season is now upon us (at least in the U.S.), I figured I’d take the opportunity to share my favorite tips for natural prevention and treatment.

Prevention

• A nutrient-dense, toxin-free diet: avoid the foods that tend to weaken the immune system, such as sugar, unprepared grains, industrial seed oils and processed and refined foods.

• Fermented cod liver oil/butter oil blend (FCLO/BO): if there’s only one super food/supplement you take through the winter, this should be it. It’s rich with fat-soluble vitamins that regulate and support the immune system, and fatty acids like EPA and DHA that reduce inflammation. It also seems to have some kind of synergistic quality above and beyond the individual nutrients it contains that powerfully boosts immunity. I rarely get colds and flus when I’m taking my FCLO/BO. I prefer the Blue Ice brand available at Green Pasture. Dosage: 1 tsp/d or 2 caps per day.

• Liver. Liver is nature’s multivitamin. It’s the most nutrient-dense food on the planet,

as I explained here. I recommend eating 3 ounces a week if you’re taking FCLO/BO.

• Bone broth. Grandma knew best! Homemade bone broth is rich with easily absorbable minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, sulfur, and trace minerals difficult to obtain elsewhere. Check out the Weston A. Price article “Broth is Beautiful” for recipes and more information.

• Fermented foods and/or probiotics: 70-80% of our immune system is in our gut. If you have intestinal dysbiosis or poor gut flora, you’ll be more susceptible to viral and bacterial infections (and colds and flus).

• Vitamin C: I don’t supplement with vitamin C at all times during the year, but when cold and flu season rolls around, I’ll often take 1 g/d as a precaution.

• Vitamin D. Vitamin D plays a powerful immunoregulatory role. For most people, the FCLO/BO blend should be enough to maintain adequate vitamin D levels. However, some people require higher doses of vitamin D to keep their 25D levels in the desired range of 35-60 ng/mL. This is especially true of those with obesity or inflammation, because these conditions impair the conversion of sunlight to vitamin D. Dosage: 2,000 – 4,000 IU/d depending on beginning level and amount of FCLO/BO you’re taking.

• Jade Windscreen Formula. Jade Windscreen (or Yu Ping Feng San in Pinyin Chinese) is an immune system tonic made up of botanicals that enhance the immune system and have anti-viral and anti-microbial properties. The traditional formula contains Astragalus, Actractylodes and Ledebouriella, but modern preparations also add cinnamon, siler root, Chinese yam rhizome, and white peony root. You can often buy Jade Windscreen at a health food store or natural

12

pharmacy. You can also buy it online. I like the Kan Herbs tincture.

• Dosage: 10-20 drops 2-3x/daily (check with your medical provider if you are pregnant or nursing or have an autoimmune condition)

• Sleep and rest. Getting adequate sleep and rest is perhaps the most important thing you can do to optimize your immune function. Just a few nights of not sleeping well can elevate inflammatory markers and reduce the protective capability of your immune system. That’s why it’s a good idea to go to bed earlier, sleep longer and rest more in the winter season.

Treatment

Sometimes despite our best efforts, a virus slips through our defenses and our immune system is called into action. Here are a few things in addition to the above that you can to do fight off the cold or flu and shorten its lifespan.

• More FCLO/BO: double or even triple your dose to get more immune-boosting fat-soluble vitamins into your system.

• Ginger honey-lemon tea with optional additions: ginger has anti-microbial and can help with nausea and G.I. upset that comes with certain strains of flu. Lemon is a good natural source of vitamin C, and has a soothing quality on a sore throat – especially when combined with honey. Honey is a time-honored cough remedy, and recent research suggests that it may be an effective cough suppressant. (Important note: never give honey to kids under 1-year of age.) Optional additions to this tea could include fresh garlic (anti-microbial), a pinch of cayenne pepper (to help break up mucous) and other warming herbs like cinnamon and clove.

• Sweat: in Chinese medicine, sweating is recommended at the early stages of a cold. The best way to do this is to take a very hot bath. I also recommend adding herbs and essential oils that promote sweating, such as wintergreen, eucalyptus, rosemary and thyme. Dr. Singha’s Mustard Bath is a powder containing these ingredients that you can add to your bath. It’s available at Whole Foods and other health food stores, and also online.

• Increase probiotic intake. I find beet kvaas and kombucha to be particularly helpful at the early stages of a cold.• Rest, rest, rest. Again, there’s no better remedy for a cold or flu than rest.• Zinc. Research suggests that zinc can reduce the duration and severity of a cold – but only if it’s started early on.

Detox Your Body and Stay Healthy through Sauna UseBy Gerald Don Wootan and Matthew Brittain Phillips from Detox Diets For Dummies

Saunas are great for flushing out the toxins that build up in your body’s fat cells. Your kidneys are detoxification powerhouses, and the intense sweating you can enjoy while spending time in a sauna can clear out about one-third of the toxic material that your kidneys remove from your bloodstream.

Multiple studies have shown that saunas are effective in removing solvents, organic chemicals, PCBs, pharmaceuticals, and heavy metal toxins from the human body.

The health benefits of using a sauna don’t stop at detoxification, although they do fit in with the core values of a detoxified lifestyle. For instance, the high temperatures of a sauna can give your immune system a boost. The number of white blood cells that fight infections increases as much as 58 percent with the levels of increased temperature you get in a sauna. And that’s just the beginning.

Your T cells (another important part of your immune system) and antibodies can increase by as much as 2,000 percent. Also, a lot of microbes just can’t take the heat; many of them die off at temperatures of 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Sauna treatments are often used to help people suffering from the common cold, and the success levels are high.

Increased temperatures also help your body to secrete endorphins, which are the “feel good” chemicals in your brain. Endorphins also make great painkillers, so it’s very common for people suffering from chronic and acute pain to get quite a bit of relief from sitting in a sauna.

Studies have shown sauna to be effective in reducing the symptoms of a range of conditions, from arthritis to chronic fatigue syndrome to

fibromyalgia. Research has also supported the use of sauna to help with glaucoma, anorexia, chronic obstructive lung disease, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and atherosclerosis. If all that weren’t enough, saunas can even help people quit smoking and kick drug addictions.

If you spend time in a sauna, your cardiovascular system will also thank you. Here are just a few of the benefits you can get from regular sauna sessions:

• Stronger heart muscle contractions

• Improved function of the cells that line your arteries, which are extremely important in helping to keep cardiovascular disease at bay

• Reduced incidence of abnormal heart beats

• Lower blood pressure resulting from a healthy enlarging of the blood vessels

• Increased blood plasma and number of red blood cells, which helps with oxygen distribution and increases exercise tolerance

• Increased fat metabolism, which leads to weight loss

• In addition to increased fat metabolism, a second mechanism for weight loss is also related to saunas. When you sweat heavily in a sauna and flush the toxins out of your fat cells, that process • allows the fat cells to reduce in size, which can be a big help with weight loss.

Got Pain? We’ve Got the Solution! One of the primary uses for far-infrared heat therapy is to help reduce suffering from chronic pain and injury. Far-infrared heat gets deep into the body’s soft tissue, making it a great source of relief from arthritis pain to backaches. Far-infrared heat also helps to improve the mobility of the joint or muscle in question. Whether you are dealing with muscle soreness from swelling, this therapy can be used to help you improve your condition. Everyone from the elderly to athletes can benefit from this method of loosening sore muscles and stiff joints, without the use of ointments or creams.

Far-infrared heat therapy works to improve the body’s natural healing process; helping to relieve pain by expanding blood vessels and increasing circulation, without increasing blood pressure. This improved circulation allows more oxygen to reach tissues and nerves, helping to reduce pain and speed up the healing process.

This deep penetrating heat gently causes an ar-tificial “fever” without actually being sick. As a result, blood circulation is improved to the treated area bringing more healing oxygen to joints and extremities and speeding healing of injuries. Those who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, ALS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease & Parkinson’s Disease can enjoy an easy to use form of pain relief.

Relieve overworked Muscles, Stiffness, Cramps and Muscle Pains: Far Infrared Saunas use Far Infrared energy wavelengths which penetrate anywhere from 1-2 inches deep into the human body. Far Infrared heat penetrates deep enough to affect the muscles which often become stiff due to everyday activities and stress. Heat relaxes the muscles and allows them to loosen up and regain their elastici-ty.

Infrared heat also makes muscles more flexible and gives them a larger range of motion, in addition to providing relief from cramps and joint pain.

Furthermore, Infrared heat helps stimulate blood circulation, leading to increased heart rate, dilated blood vessels and overall more movement of blood to different body parts including muscles. Infrared heat also helps break down our body‘s lactic acid deposits. Lactic acid forms deposits in muscles, leading to muscle cramps, muscle tightening & fatigue in the body. Infrared technology has been

shown to work well on muscle pain throughout the back as well as muscle pain caused by arthritis & other joint problems. Daily use of a Far Infrared Sauna will help to totally relax muscles leading to better, undisturbed sleep without anxieties and pain.• It produces pain relief• Pain may be relieved via the reduction of atten-dant or secondary muscle spasms.• Pain is also at times related to ischemia due to tension or spasm which can be improved by the hyperemia that heat-induced vasodilation produc-es, thus breaking the feedback loop, in which the ischemia leads to further spasm and then more pain.• Heat has been shown to reduce pain sensation by direct action on both free-nerve endings in tissues and on peripheral nerves. In one dental study, repeated heat applications led finally to abolishment of the whole nerve response responsi-ble for pain arising from dental pulp.• Heat may both lead to increased endorphin production and a shutting down of the so-called “spinal gate” of Melzack and Wall, each of which can reduce pain.

NATURAL PAIN RELIEF: Far infrared sauna heat is a very effective natural pain relief therapy in the bat-tle against muscle and joint complaints. Far infra-red heat relieves pain by expanding blood vessels and increasing circulation.

Better circulation allows more oxygen to reach injured areas of the body and helps reduce pain and speed up the healing process. This natural pain relief approach can result in significant pain reduction and minimizing or discontinuing the use of medication all together.

A study in Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics test-ed 46 patients with chronic pain using a variety of treatment modalities with and without far-infrared sauna. They found a decrease in pain score, pain behavior, self-rating depression and anger score in both groups of patients, but a more significant drop was noted in the sauna group.

Two years after treatment, more of the patients in the sauna group had returned to work than those without sauna treatment. This may be a very prom-ising method for the treatment of chronic pain.Masuda, A, et al. The effects of repeated thermal therapy for patients with chronic pain. Mexican Sweet Potato Casserole

Makes 8 servings

Ingredients:1 cup quinoa, cooked2-15 oz cans black beans, drained and rinsed1 large onion, chopped3 cups asparagus, cut into 1-inch pieces2 large sweet potatoes1-12 oz jar salsa1 cup Mexican style low-fat cheese, shredded1 sliced avocado, for topping

Directions:Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Using a grater with large holes, grate sweet potatoes into a large bowl. Mix quinoa, beans, onion, asparagus and salsa with sweet potato and spread into a 9×13 pan. Top with cheese and bake, uncov-ered, for 35-40 minutes. Allow to sit for 10 minutes prior to serving. Serve with sliced avo-cado and enjoy!

Tips:Grating sweet potatoes takes approximately 10 minutes and

will be your arm workout for the day. Trust me on this one.If you like your dishes on the spicier side, add in 2-3 chopped jalapeños and 1 TBSP of cayenne pepper for an extra kick!Frozen corn would be a great addition to this casserole – I sadly didn’t have any on hand when prepping this recipe.Casserole 3

The next time you’re craving a Mexican-style meal, think about what ingredients go into your favorite, greasy Mexican restaurant entree. Then opt to make this instead. It might not be as quick but it will be just as – if not more – tasty and leave you feeling 100x healthier!

TestimonialsI just love my Good Health Saunas, I slept eight and a half hours last night straight without even waking up awesome awesome awesomePat Pitkat, FL

“Great company. After they set it up in my basement I went to adjust the glass door because it was catching on the bottom. No biggie , Allen wrench to a couple screws etc. I loosened top screws and out came the door into a million pieces on my floor. I still can’t believe it happened. Called the company & explained... mailed me out a new door and hardware the next day at no charge. Not to mention the sauna is awesome.”Marc Powers, FL

“Received my 2 seater hemlock Good Health Saunas today. It was easy to assemble. It takes but 5 minutes to warm up. Spent 30 minutes in it this evening at 130 degrees and I feel like brand new. Jeff Anderson did a great job working with me on the purchase at the Pittsburgh Home Show about a month ago. It looks great down stairs in the man cave.”Mark Kramer, PA

Great Purchase!!!For years, my wife and I have wanted to purchase a home sauna. We are very active and are always looking for healthy additions to our daily routine. A month ago, we finally purchased a Good Health Saunas and have used it on a daily basis since. The sauna has led to quicker muscle and joint recovery, smoother skin, better complexion, weight loss, reduced blood pressure and a tremendous reduction of stress. Saying that we are happy with the purchase is a huge understatement. THANK YOU GOOD HEALTH SAUNAS.Ken France, Burlington, WI
