Dear Parents and Carers,
We have been incredibly sporty over the past two weeks and you may have noticed that skipping has become the latest craze
at St. Paul’s (adult ropes available for sale in the office too!) As part of Sport Relief, all of the children have been practising
their skills (including double unders, cross overs and pretzels) for the school skip-a-thon today which involved sponsored
skipping challenges for each class and a whole school skip at break-time. Skipping is also a fabulous way to stay fit and the
children have been really impressing us with their dedication and determination to improve. All of this is for a great cause so
thank you very much for your support!
As well as staying fit, the children are continuing to improve their art, dance and drama. Yellow and Blue classes impressed us
enormously with their knowledge of the Great Fire of London in their assembly this week. Not only did they show that they
knew lots of historical facts, but they also taught us all about fire safety. They sang, danced and presented their lines with
great confidence. Well done!
We look forward to seeing you all at parents consultations on Thursday 27th March and Tuesday 1st April and discussing your
child’s progress and next steps. You are also warmly invited to come and join our Maths Fun Day on Friday 28th as we
continue to work in partnership to promote a love of learning in all subject areas. Please see letters next week inviting you to a
number of events after Easter planned to explore more ways of working together to support our children in their education.
Mrs Kathryn Hemming
We have been developing ways in which we can
work collaboratively with other local schools to
promote sports. On Tuesday 11th we had some
Year 10 Chessington Community College pupils
come to school coach our Year 3 and 4 children.
That afternoon Blue Class had a wonderful time at
CCC on their multi skills afternoon: competing
against other local primaries and taking part in a
wide range of sporting activities including golf,
basketball, hurdles, racing and tennis skills.

Class News
Red Class: We received a letter and a basket of lunch from Mr Grinling asking for help to scare the birds away so we wrote back with all our ideas. We’ve been practicing some our ee, igh, oa and ai sounds and writing them in chalk all over the playground and in maths we have been using a number square to count up in tens and to add on 2, 3, 4 and 5 more. We have managed to get up to 80! Yellow Class: Have been learning all about The Great Fire of London in preparation for our assembly and we loved making flames! We have been learning about similes and were as resourceful as Piglet when we were solving word problems in maths to help Shrek plan an ogres tea party. Blue Class: We did a wonderful job of performing our assembly with Yellow Class and enjoyed making our own costumes and did a great job of speaking loudly and clearly. We loved our day at CCC, trying new fun activities. In maths we have been working very hard to find the difference between two numbers and have been very resilient, just like Winnie the Pooh. Year 3: Are ready to impress you in our production next week and have been doing lots of singing, painting and dancing in preparation, including during our Indian workshop. We have been learning how to improve our writing by using specific verbs and have created frequency charts using data on all our school clubs! Year 4: Have also been working hard to prepare for their production of ‘Jonah—A Fishy Tale’ next week so there has been lots of acting, singing, dancing and set creating in our classroom. We have still managed to fit in some other work and have been writing persuasive letters about school and current issues and in maths we have been converting measures and solving maths problems and are now moving on to perimeter. Year 5: Had a wonderful trip to Hampton Court Palace to follow up on all we have been learning about the Tudors: The Reformation and all about Henry VIII, his life and loves. We have also be learning how to programme software for the i-pads, finding out about persuasive techniques used in adverts and the media and learning about pollination too! Year 6: We have finished our newspaper reports, writing all about allowing robots to think like humans and have really impressed Miss Hazell with our improved formal writing. In science we loved working with test tubes for the first time to investigate chemical changes—there may be some budding future scientists among us!
