CIRCLE NEWS HCS CIRCLE HOSTESS SUPPER THANK YOU to EVERYONE who came out to enjoy a catered meal and friendly game of HCS Family Feud at the annual Hostess Supper! What a GREAT NIGHT! We made a profit of $4,049 that will be used to pay for a bottle filling drinking fountain and new athletic uniforms for the junior high. It’s a wonderful blessing to be able to gather with the HCS family - parents, grandparents and supporters - as we continue to encourage and provide quality Christian Education to the next generation! Your support and generosity are greatly appreciated! HCS VENDOR FAIR Make plans now to attend the 2nd annual Hull Christian Circle Spring Vendor Fair on Saturday, April 14 from 9:00 AM2:00 PM at the Community Building. In addition to the vendor fair, we will be having a Bake Sale & serving breakfast options in the bottom of the Community Building. The vendor fair is a great opportunity to browse several local artists & small business owners to pick out gifts for upcoming Mother's Day or just a little shopping for yourself. GRANDPARENT'S DAY The morning of Friday, April 20 will be our annual Grandparent’s Day Open House. HCS will be offering the Grandparents to stay and enjoy a meal with their grandkids! Look for more details to come! JOG/WALK-A-THON The opportunity for fun with the kids and support- ing HCS will continue on in the afternoon of Friday, April 20. This is a wonderful time to go out- doors (SPRING IS COMINGYAY!), get some exercise together, and challenge everyone to “get in those laps” for a great cause! More details coming soon! BOX TOPS Our final contest of the year is going to be “Pizza with the Pack”. The class that averages the most box tops will win a pizza party with a couple students from Western Christian High School! Students have until April 25 to turn in their box tops! Keep collecting and remember to check the expiration dates! CIRCLE MEETING The Circle Executive Committee will be meeting on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 7:00 PM in the teachers’ workroom. SCRIP statements will be issued and applied to tuition accounts at that time. The May tuition statements for HCS and Western will show these payouts. If you attend 1 st CRC in Hull your SCRIP will be applied to your church education statement unless you are paying tuition to HCS. If your tuition is paid in full for the year you will receive credit for next school year. Dis- cussed looking into splitting the cost of a new garage with 1st CRC on their property. Finance: MMS to the changes of the addendum. The work of all the committees was supported and approved. 4. New Business MMS to offer contracts, addendums, and faith statements to staff members. MMS to hire Bryan Timmer as the boy’s soccer coach. Discussed school safety. 5. The meeting was closed with prayer. **MMS = Motion Made and Sustained Society Meeting Highlights - The Biannual Society Meeting was held on Wednesday, February 21. Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting or voted by absentee ballot. The proposed budget for the 2018-2019 school year was approved. Elected to the Board were Seth Oostenink, Waylon Pollema, and Julie Van Schepen. Website www.hullchristian.com Thematic UnitThe 1960s - The 5th-8th grade students spent a week learning about the 60s! They were divided into four mixed groups which consisted of students from each grade for a week of block scheduling. Each junior high teacher taught a different aspect of the 60s. Mrs. Van Maanen taught the students about music in the 60s; Mrs. Waterman talked about different forms of protesting that took place in that decade; Mrs. Davelaar taught about the space race, inventions and technology of the 1960s; Mrs. Negen took a look at pop culture of the 1960sfashion, cars, music, tv/movies, and sports as well as major events in JFK’s presidency and the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War; Mr. Ten Pas taught about sports broadcast- ing and had students broadcast a whiffle ball game; Mrs. Westra tie- dyed shirts with the students as well as had them draw posters of the foods introduced and popular children’s books published in the 60s. We also had some special guests: Megan Kooima came in to lead us in dance moves of the 60s, and Vietnam War Veteran Bob Dykstra spoke about his experience as a medic in the war. Little Blessings Preschool Registration Hull Christian School will be having Registration and Open House for Little Blessings Preschool on Tuesday, March 13. The online registration form will be posted to the Hull Christian webpage at 6:00 PM on the 13th and can be completed from home or laptops will be set up at school that evening from 6:00-7:30 PM. Mrs. Boer will make a short presentation at 7:00 PM regarding the daily activities of preschool. Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. There is no tuition cost for preschool. If you have any questions or know anyone who may be interested in Little Blessings Preschool, please contact the school office at 439-2273.

Staff Contracts In February, Mr. Ten Pas was issued his contract to continue as Principal for the 2018-2019 school year. We are pleased to report he has signed his contract to return next school year. Faculty and staff received their contracts on Thursday, March 1. Contracts are due March 8. Please remember the faculty and staff in your prayers and with words of encouragement as they make their decisions.

Give-A-Book Program:

We are very thankful for the recent donations to our "Give a Book" program! Such special gifts to help our library grow. Larry and Marcia Hoekstra gave in honor of their grandson Keith Hoekstra’s birthday. Keith chose the book Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear? Larry and Marcia also gave in honor of their granddaughter Vera’s birthday coming up in April. Vera chose A Color of His Own.

February Chapel Mrs. Louwerse, Mrs. Davelaar, and the 7th grade class led our February Chapel on the great Re-former John Calvin. They shared how he came up with the acronym TULIP and which each letter stands for. Pictured below: Trista and Maddie demonstrating that if we have Jesus in our lives we receive forgiveness and grace for our sins.

Winter Olympics in 3rd Grade

While the winter Olympics were taking place in Pyeong Chang, the 3rd graders were also learning about the Olympics and even participating in their own games!! Students were split into groups of two. Each group chose a country, created their countries flag, and competed against each other in cross country skiing, bobsledding (pictured below), and curling in the gym.

Basketball Season 2017-2018

We had another fun basketball season at HCS improving our skills and enjoying competition with other area Christian schools. A huge thank you to the coaches for taking time to lead our students on the court. The boys were coached by Dave Kooima and assisted by Micah Van Otterloo. The girls were coached by Morgan Van Kooten with Marianne Bleeker filling in. We appreciate all the work they did in coaching our students.
