11:00 AM ADULT CLASS Book of Micah - Room 1 (downstairs) This study features a verse-by-verse examination of the book of Micah who prophesied from approximately 737–696 BC. We look at the promised judgment for Samaria and Jerusalem, the judgment on leaders including blessings from the ultimate leader (Jesus Christ) and how and why the judgment was justified. In close looks at Hosea, Joel, Amos, and Obadiah, we discover that their messages went largely unheeded. However, Micah's warnings were not ignored and repentance followed. Judgment was held off nearly 100 years! Can a modern-day Micah make a difference today? We'll look closely at what Micah said and whether or not applying the lessons of his time to today will postpone what many see as the judgment which seems very close to us now. Come join us! This is a discussion class led by Dave Upham.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and that we all spent some time thanking the Lord for His many blessings. A thankful heart is a happy heart. Perhaps that is true because when we are truly thankful, we cannot be anxious. When we are truly thankful, we cannot be pessimistic. When we are truly thankful, we cannot be immersing ourselves in bad news all the time.
Instead, we can recognize God's sovereignty and ability in every situation! And for our nation, because God has acted on our behalf in the past, no matter how bleak things may look at times, we know that He can act on our behalf in the future. Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness to us in the past. Help us to remember daily the work that You have done in our lives so that we can live confidently, trusting in Your sovereignty and loving purposes. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. . . . . .Carolyn Tormala

What do the candles in our Advent wreath mean?
The Advent wreath, four candles on a wreath of evergreen, is shaped in a perfect circle to
symbolize the eternity of God. In some churches, four purple candles, one for each week in
Advent, are used with one larger white candle in the middle as the Christ candle. Other churches prefer three purple or blue candles with one candle being rose or pink, to represent joy.
While the Advent wreath with its four candles did bring light to churches, it was not to illuminate
the interior as much as to symbolize the coming of Christ. The Advent wreath began in the time of the Protestant reformer Martin Luther.
During each Sunday of the Advent season, we focus on one of the four virtues Jesus brings us: Hope, Love, Joy and Peace. Others consider the lighting of the first candle to symbolize
expectation, while the second symbolizes hope, the third joy and the fourth purity. The Christ
candle is lit on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day reminding Christians that Jesus is the Light of the world. The order and exact wording vary among churches, but the wreath continually reminds us
of whom we are called to be as followers of Jesus.
McDonalds or Mansion?McDonalds or Mansion?McDonalds or Mansion?McDonalds or Mansion?
How would you feel if you cleaned your house, decorated it with love, set a lovely table and
prepared a sumptuous meal only to have your guests arrive, throw their coats on the floor, knock over your favorite vase racing to beat each other to the TV, step on your mother’s foot to fight over the
antique rocker and plop down with bags of popcorn to fight over the TV, switching back and forth
between a violent thriller and an inane sitcom?
Think of this world as a large mansion and grounds that God has prepared for His children. Sometime we bolt through His house and yard like bumptious, noisy children at a McDonald’s playground.
Oblivious to the precious, we plow into things and people, leaving a wake of breakage and soiling
influence. He has placed servants about to direct us, serve us, and show us His treasures. We run by
them without thought or recognition, missing opportunities of blessing, growth or refining.
What if we truly valued the people, mansion, grounds and the Creator as sacred? Treasuring the
privilege of being here, we might slow down, “smell the roses,” wait for the guide so we could properly
appreciate the place and our role in it. Perhaps we’d know the Creator betters as His character is
reflected in His work that communicates His love for us. Maybe we’d even take a minute to register our
appreciation with the One Who made it all—for us.
Psalms 65:4a “Blessed are those You choose and bring near to live in Your courts.
Psalms 66:5 “Come and see what God has done, how awesome His works in man’s behalf!”
