Things To Remember

• There will be NO PIZZA for the next two weeks. Pizza Wednesdays will resume on January 18th.

• School begins at 8:30. We keep our carpool line going until 8:45 to accommodate any families who may be running late or those with toddlers. Please do your best to be at school on time.

• Please keep your kids home if they are sick. Just as a reminder, students may return to school 24 hours after they are fever free (without the use of fever reducers).

• Label Everything. This is the only reliable way to return lost items to families.

Saying Goodbye to Mrs. Williams Mary and Sue first met Thelma Williams about 3 years before Heartwood began. They were working together at another school and dreamed about starting their own. The rest is history! Thelma was the elementary teacher, starting out with the 6-9 year olds and ending up with the 9-12 year olds. She was great! She had a bit of Mrs. Frizzle (from Magic School Bus) in her from the curriculum based fabrics in her dresses (which a parent made for her) to her toe nail polish (solar system, insects, flowers, etc). She started many of the early HW traditions including Yule Log, St. Lucia, the Egg Contest, Author Penn Dragon (a book report festival), many of which have been discontinued due to the growth of the school. She even came to school each year in a full body rabbit costume around Easter to hand out eggs, claiming to be her own cousin from England!

Thelma has moved to Seattle to be near her children and grandchildren. She promises to visit and has many places to stay when she does. But we will miss her. Especially the UE class in which she has worked with Mary and Tammy. Mary and Sue have so many fond memories of our “Mrs. Williams” to hold close.

Painting Projects Painting projects are continuing throughout the school. In addition to some of the projects that have already been completed, we are working on painting both bathrooms as well as a lot of the trim around the school.

These projects have really given new life to our space and we are so thankful for everyone who has helped out so far.

If you are interested in helping with any painting, please contact Samantha at [email protected]. There are several jobs that we are still working on. We would love your help.

Looking for a Babysitter? If you are looking for a caring and reliable babysitter, then look no further than Heartwood’s very own Hannah Stiles (not to be confused with summer camp Hannah!). Hannah works as a “floating” preschool assistant and after school care teacher here at Heartwood.

For more information on babysitting rates and availability, please contact Hannah at 919-924-9251.
