HABITAT TRANSITION WORK INSTRUCTIONS 2020 Boyd Gavin ‘Still life withstationary’ The format of the work that we have planned for you will expand the following skills and you should be focused on developing these through each task activity: Thinking time –consider what you are being asked to do – Looking time – Open your eyes and take the time to look around you and do something that is individual – get your creative cogs turning and trust your judgement. Context – investigate the artists mentioned and get a handle on what area of Art you are addressing in each task –make a pinterest board to collect the images. Create and make – your own work with skill and care, take the time to really experiment and explore the media fully and apply your self to the tasks I have set. You will all have different materials so just use what you have available. There are a total of 8 tasks which we would like you to complete. Please remember to interpret the ideas and create something amazing!! You will be creating a folder of work which you will bring when you are next in school. These tasks are here for you to enjoy and to be creative with – don’t worry and just respond in your own way – some of the tasks will take longer than others – some short sketches – others a piece of work – but do what you can and treat it as a way to keep your eye in.

Boyd Gavin ‘Still life withstationary’

The format of the work that we have planned for you will expand the following skills and you should be focused on developing these through each task activity:

Thinking time –consider what you are being asked to do –Looking time – Open your eyes and take the time to look around you and do something that is individual – get your creative cogs turning and trust your judgement.Context – investigate the artists mentioned and get a handle on what area of Art you are addressing in each task –make a pinterest board to collect the images.Create and make – your own work with skill and care, take the time to really experiment and explore the media fully and apply your self to the tasks I have set. You will all have different materials so just use what you have available.

There are a total of 8 tasks which we would like you to complete. Please remember to interpret the ideas and create something amazing!! You will be creating a folder of work which you will bring when you are next in school.

These tasks are here for you to enjoy and to be creative with – don’t worry and just respond in your own way –some of the tasks will take longer than others – some short sketches – others a piece of work – but do what you can and treat it as a way to keep your eye in.

HABitAT

LISAMILROY

Habitat : the place where a person or thing is usually found, in Art work is often created by artists in response to the everyday / what is around you/ who is around you / what is inside / what is outside. As we are in lockdown and you are confined to a specific space, this project is designed for you to explore andexperiment, respond and react to what youexperience day to day.

Looking at the familiar - is one of the most importantskills in making great Art– and each task you will be learning new skills, you may also find that you want to explore further any of the tasks then that is great – they are supposed to be start points and so you can develop your own work from this.

Consider ways that you want to present your work too –you may have an old sketchbook in which to work in – or you may find sheets of paper which you can put together in some kind of folder – this you have to decide on.Please do the tasks in any order you like…

Task 1: Cubist Still-Life

1. Create a research page that explores some of the Cubist artists looking at Still-Life pictures (Artists: Picasso, Braque, Gris) using the Understanding paintings sheet (next slide) – key aspects to research (multiple perspective, Collage, found objects ).

2. Collect several objects / things / fruits etc, consider the tablecloth and background and set up your own cubist still life. Take several photos & makestudies from observation focus on still-life objects such as instruments jugs, pots andflowers, explore multiple perspectives –you may wish to experiment with overlap filters on your phone / pc.

3. Create your own cubist still life work using the materials you have available (Ideally A3) . Adopt the painting style of the Cubists and create a work that has gradients /overlapping jigsaw like shapes / fracturing the space / extended lines and simplified colours –abandon reality for abstraction.

This is the Understanding paintings sheet –Read through this sheet and use it to help you create an overview of cubism and when later you asked to respond to artists. This is the sheet you will need to refer to at different times in the tasks. PLEASE NOTE ; You do not need to complete all of these prompts every time – just try to include all aspects across the whole of the transition work –deciding which aspect to use and when.

TASK 2: Animal Habitats : Habitat can be where creatures live too. Create a page which investigates different shells - find real shells you may have or look through any books / google images of shells and explore patterns / colour using a variety of different papers to draw on (use torn pagesfrom a book, different types of paper/card, old envelopes, board, cerealbox), explore ways to work with different surfaces to draw on and use a range of materials to draw with – pen/ink, pencils, brush and ink, paints, collage.

Create your own response in the form of idea sketches or observational sketches from animal habitats – If you have your own animal then maybe work from them – if not think about making a work which explores the pattern / movement / interaction with the environment that the animal has. You can create a series of sketches from observation or find ways to inform your work using nature programmes / images.

Task 3 Animal Habitats :

Select the best window view at home or in the shed!– walk around your house and get the best spot – you may need to place objects and arrange curtains etc for the best view – consider your viewpoint – left / right / straight on – high/ lowpoints..? You will have a photoshoot of several to choose from.

3. Once you have chosen the window make a couple of drawings 1. at day and at night to get to know what you are dealing with.

4. Finally create your own response to the window view in an A3 piece–work directly from what you see and investigate light and colour Or explore your imagination -It could be a surreal scene like the first picture withimaginary images appearing – dreamlike..
