Cubist Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and MCPHS School of Pharmacy-Worcester/Manchester Fellowship Programs

Cubist Pharmaceuticals, in collaboration with the MassachusettsCollege of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) School ofPharmacy in Worcester/Manchester, is pleased to offer three,two-year post-doctoral fellowships with potential opportunitiesin Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, Drug Information, andHealth Economics and Outcomes Research.

About the Fellowships These fellowship programs are designed to offer Doctor ofPharmacy graduates an in-depth experience in abiopharmaceutical industry setting. In addition to the industrycomponent, the fellows will be exposed to teaching, precepting,and mentoring pharmacy students from MCPHS. Fellows will be appointed as adjunct assistant professors and

will have the opportunity to teach, develop and coordinateclasses at MCPHS. Fellows will also attend and participate in amonthly teaching seminar series where they will interact withpharmacy residents and fellows from throughout Massachusetts,and potentially obtain a teaching certificate upon completion ofthe program. Additionally, fellows will have the opportunity topublish at least one article per fellowship year, present data atscientific conferences, and precept students on advanced electiveclinical rotations.

About MCPHS – Worcester/ManchesterMassachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences-Worcester/Manchester (MCPHS) provides an academicenvironment to guide and support fellows toward a successfulcareer in the biopharmaceutical industry. As a private institutionwith a history of specialization in health sciences, MCPHS offersprograms that embody scholarship, professional service andcommunity outreach. Through MCPHS, the fellow will have the opportunity to gain

teaching and research experience in an academic setting.MCPHS faculty and company program leaders will mentorfellows according to their scholarly and professional intereststhroughout the two year program. As an adjunct assistantprofessor at MCPHS the fellow will have the opportunity to:

• Develop, coordinate, and teach courses on the Worcester orManchester campus

• Co-precept students on advanced experiential rotations• Create and publish scholarly research and/or review articles• Present research at scientific and clinical meetings• Participate in professional development seminars with other

fellows and residents from MCPHS affiliated programs

Cubist Fellowships

Year One Options

Medical AffairsThe fellow will gain exposure to various areas and departments within the pharmaceutical industry, with a primary focus in MedicalAffairs. The fellow will gain a broad experience in Medical Affairs under the supervision and mentorship of the Medical Affairsleadership. Activities will be selected based on the fellow’s experience and interests, as well as the current needs of the company.Opportunities may include projects within Global Medical Affairs and other departments, participation in departmental or companyresearch, and competitive intelligence. Fellows will also work alongside clinical scientific directors in the home office and field thatinteract and collaborate with researchers and opinion leaders in the infectious diseases community. Medical Affairs is available tofellows in both their first and second years.

Drug InformationThe fellow will personify the clinical, scientific, and technical face for Cubist to both external customers and internal colleagues. Thefellow will become an integral member of the Drug Information team, working with other pharmacists who utilize their clinicalexpertise daily in order to fulfill the mission of providing accurate, balanced, and timely information about Cubist products and theirrole in the practice of medicine. With a primary focus in Drug Information, the fellow will have many unique opportunities toperform medical review of promotional materials, critical evaluation of published medical and scientific literature about Cubistproducts and their competitors, as well as in-house product and disease state technical training for Cubist in-house and fieldpersonnel. The Drug Information program is available to fellows in their first year.

Year Two Options

Clinical ResearchWhile playing a key role in Cubist’s Clinical Research Team, the fellow will also collaborate with many other departments, functioning asan active member of several multidisciplinary teams. Clinical Research is directed towards the development of new, as yet unapproved,products and innovative research with existing products, accomplished through the implementation and conduct of US and globalclinical trials. These encompass all phases of clinical development, from first-in-human studies, through Phases 1, 2 and 3 and also manypost drug approval studies. The fellow will interact as a scientific liaison with external researchers and Cubist study teams to contributeto clinical studies from the planning and approval stages, through study completion and post-study closure. This clinical perspective iscrucial to data interpretation and directly contributes to the methodology for design and execution of clinical protocols and final reports.Clinical Research is available to fellows in both their first and second years.

Health Economics and Outcomes ResearchThe fellow will become an integral member of the Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) group and will have theopportunity to interact with cross-functional teams and gain exposure to numerous departments within the pharmaceutical industry. Ashealthcare continues to change at a rapid pace, the HEOR team at Cubist collaborates with the development teams for pipeline productsto assess and evaluate trial endpoints to ensure that the trials are designed in anticipation of future comparative effectiveness reviews.As part of the HEOR team, the fellow will work with both marketed and pipeline products to generate data to support the value ofCubist’s products. The fellow will gain an understanding of pharmacoeconomics and health outcomes research principles, which he orshe will then apply throughout various HEOR initiatives. Additionally, as part of this fellowship, the fellow will potentially have theopportunity to take a leadership role on longitudinal research projects. HEOR is available to fellows in their second year.

Application Process/Eligibility

First Year Programs:• Medical Affairs• Clinical Research• Drug Information

Duration: 2 years

Eligibility:Applicants must be a Doctor of Pharmacy candidate from an ACPE accredited institution prior to the start ofthe fellowship year, and must be a bright and enthusiastic professional with excellent communication andtime-management skills. The fellow will be selected on a nationally competitive basis by the fellowshipprogram directors at Cubist Pharmaceuticals and MCPHS.

Compensation: The fellow will receive a competitive stipend along with comprehensive health and dental insurance.Attendance at one or more major scientific conferences will be supported by Cubist.

Certificate of Completion: MCPHS and Cubist Pharmaceuticals will award a certificate of achievement upon successful completion ofthe fellowship program.
