CUBIST CUPCAKES

Draw five straight lines on your paper

Two going down. Three going across.

Page 15: Cubist cupcakes

Start to draw the simple outline of the cupcake

It’s easier if you start at the top, in the middle.

Page 16: Cubist cupcakes

When you reach a line, shift where you are drawing slightly.

You can change the angle of the cupcake a little too. This will help create the look of Cubist “fractured planes”.

Carry on drawing the outline, shifting when you meet your straight lines.

You can now start to colour and shade the cupcake.

Put some pastel or chalk on the straight edge of a scrap piece of paper.

Place the edge of the scrap paper along one of the straight lines in you cupcake drawing.

Using your finger, carefully smudge the pastel from the scrap paper into the are you wish to colour and shade.

You can do this to all the parts of your cupcake that have straight lines.

Try to use muted, realistic colours where you can.

Pick a couple of sections of cupcake to fill in with newspaper.

Cut them out carefully, and stick them down.

You can always go over lines on top of the newspaper that you need to.

Carefully colour in the rest of your cupcake. You can use the scrap paper & straight line technique to fill in some of the background.
