Guidelines for conducting online classes in CCSHAU, Hisar and

outstations (Kaul and Bawal)

The following guidelines for conducting online teaching at CCSHAU, Hisar and

outstations (Kaul and Bawal) have been framed out that must be meticulously

followed by all the teachers from now onwards for effective teaching in the virtual

classrooms:

1. VIDEO RECORDING OF LECTURES

There are three options for video recording of lectures by the teachers:

A. Video recording using professional facilities

i. Arrangements have been made to record video lectures in the Committee Room of the

Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities.

ii. HODs are requested to supply the list of faculty members who are ready to get their

lectures recorded. For video lectures, the faculty members may be asked to bring their

PowerPoint slides (Minimum text font size equivalent to 30 Times New Roman).

Likewise text appearing in any Fig/graph/picture should also be of appropriate size.

iii. Lectures may be designed to be completed in 25-30 minutes

B. Video recording using own laptop/desktop using GoogleMeet

(i) Teachers can also record video lectures at their own using Google Meet.

Steps:

(a) Create a Google Meet Link

(b) Start the meeting

(c) Start recording using the recording option

(d) Share the PowerPoint Presentation

(e) Present it as if you are conducting a class

(f) After completion of lecture, save the recording

C. Video recording using own laptop/desktop using PowerPoint

(ii) Considering the urgency of development of effective online teaching material, it is also

suggested to record video lectures at teacher’s level using laptop/desktop. HODs are

also requested to supply the list of faculty members who opt to record their lectures on

their own. One of the methods suggested is to prepare PowerPoint Narrated slide show,

i.e. slide show with voice recording. This can be done on laptop/desktop. The steps are

explained in attached Annexure A.Save this file as MPEG.

2. UPLOADING OF STUDY MATERIAL

i. All the faculty members are required to upload from time to time the online education

material for the students on official web portal of CCSHAU. In order to avoid

plagiarism, it is better to give the links of other source materials rather than coping the

same.

ii. The material supplied by the teacher should be self-explanatory and self-sufficient as

per the course content of the subject. Don’t expect that the students have access to

extra material other than that provided by the teacher through online platform

including ERP unless otherwise references (easily accessible) have been given by

teachers.

2 | P a g e

iii. The material (text/PowerPoint etc.) should be uploaded well in time on the CCSHAU

web portal but at least 5 days before the scheduled classesso that they may go

through it in advance and bring their queries in the class for discussion and

clarification.

iv. Teachers must impress upon the students to write down everything in their notebooks

as soon as they receive the material from teachers. This will help two ways:(i) students

will certainly go through the notes and (ii) they will have direct access to the relevant

material at the time of discussion in the virtual classroom.

3. METHODS FOR CONDUCTING ONLINE CLASSES

Different online platforms (e.g. Google classroom, Zoom, WhatsApp etc.) can be used

depending upon the feasibility of resources like quality of internet connection, number

of participants and type of class (theory/practical). However, it must be kept in mind

that some of the students may not have laptop/desktop and they are only using their

phones. When using lot of video conferencing, some of the students may face the

problem of data limits. The choice of appropriate platform of virtual classroom is left

to the teacher ensuring that all students have access to that platform. However, while

choosing the online platform, the teacher must ensure that it has record of conversation

and attendance which is to be shared with the committee for submission to the

university authorities.

For conducting practical classes, faculty will arrange to sheet live demonstrations of

the practical and upload the same or provide the links (YouTube etc.) of relevant

experiments. Facilities for recording videos may be provided by the University.

Faculty members are suggested to recommend most relevant e-books for procurement

by the Nehru Library through their HODs.

OPTIONS:

a) Google Meet and Zoom: (MOST PREFERED METHOD)

(i) Video Conferencing possible, (ii) Audio conferencing possible (iii) Attendance of

students is possible (iv) recording of whole class is possible

b) Google Classroom: (USE THIS METHOD ONLY IF GOOGLE MEET IS NOT

POSSIBLE/REQUIRED)

(i) Text messages possible (ii) Attendance of students is possible

c) WhatsApp: (see Annexure B for submitting the record to committee)

(USE THIS METHOD ONLY IF ABOVE OPTIONS ARE NOT POSSIBLE)

(i) Text messages possible, (ii) Voice exchange is possible (limited), (iii) Video

conferencing possible (very limited) and (iv) Attendance of students is possible
