Gyeongbokgung Palace was built in 1394 as a primary residence for the royal family. Geunjeongjeon, the largest and most impressive building in the palace, served as the throne room and audience hall.

The National Folk Museum demonstrates Korean social and traditional life style, such as religious rituals, housing, clothing, food and social dynamics of traditional Korean life.

8

Cheong-gye cheon(Stream) The water that flows in the Cheonggyecheon is a Class-2 level of water quality. Class-1 has a high environmental adaptability for freshwater fish (Moroco oxycephalus, etc.) and Class-2 is for fish native to the Hangang(River) (minnow, crustacean, catfish, etc.). Therefore the water of the Cheonggyecheon is safe for recreational use, and children can play in the water with no worry of contamination from the habitat.

Insa-dong, located in the middle of the city, is an important place where old but precious and traditional goods are on display. There is one main road in Insa-dong with alleys on each side. Within these alleys are galleries, traditional restaurants, traditional teahouses, and cafes. The shops in Insa-dong are very popular among all age groups, because each one is unique.

Bukchon Hanok Village was once a village of aristocrats long ago and its luxury tile roofed houses called giwas have been preserved since the Joseon Dynasty. Located in the middle of Gyeongbok Palace and Changdeok Palace, the village boasts 600 years of history in the region.

Daejanggeum, a non-verbal performance inspired by popular Korean TV drama “Daejanggeum (Jewel in the Palace),” is set to run from May 22nd through July 29th at Baekam Art Hall in Seoul. Following the plotline of the TV drama, the performance depicts destined love between the main characters in 5 acts and 18 scenes. It also stages King’s Parade, Namsadang Pungmulnori (traditional percussion music and dance), and court culture. Finally, it features the main theme song, ‘Onara,’ remixed to mash samulnori and K-pop together.
